I used to have intrusive thoughts during super stressful periods of my life, and I just wanted to say that the way I perceived them personally, was not as if they were my own. They weren't audial hallucinations--i.e., I could tell the difference between a person's voice and the intrusive thought--but it did have the unique aspect of feeling as if it was not "MY thought." It is difficult to explain, but before I had ever heard the term "intrusive thoughts" I referred to them as "word sentences" because they felt like complete sentences being injected into my brain by some 3rd party... they felt different because not only were they in sentences (as opposed to abstract thoughts) but they truly felt as if they were not my own thoughts because I was not able to control them. Not to mention I would have freaked out at the prospect of thinking I, myself, could think such horrid, unspeakable things. I wonder if anyone else has felt similarly in any respect. In case there's any doubt, what I experienced was definitely not a hallucination. You don't really "hear" intrusive thoughts.

I love listening to you. It helps me with my son who suffers with it. Even on his meds. He claims they don’t work but I seem to think there is a big difference in him when he is on vs off.

concur ❤ based on what my daughter seems to go through. But I think it would be so hard to deal with hallucinations as well. But her voices are very mean and demeaning and condescending and accuse her of things she hasn’t done or want her to prove things that happen

I hope you know you’re loved! And you’re a cool person for showing the world what you take on, on an everyday basis.. pretty brave of you so I’m going through something and wanted to say thank you for making me see a bigger picture on things in life that I should be grateful for, on things where I think my life sucks where people have it much worse. Life gets better, I know it doesn’t seem like it but it does. You aren’t your mental unless. ❤

When autistic people stop masking (trying to blend into society) they too can seem schizophrenic, almost the same, but different. I can control my hallucinations. When I think about unicorns, I see unicorns, same with witches, aliens etc. You probably have occured hallucinations you cannot control.

I have intrusive thoughts, but not schizophrenia. The difference is that my intrusive thoughts are in my OWN voice, not a literal auditory hallucination. What I'm hearing is my own voice telling me to do stupid things, like run out into the middle of traffic or rob a bank. I just see it as my own brain trying to annoy me, so it's easy to ignore - like when you ignore an annoying younger sibling who's trying to annoy you on purpose.

From what I understand an asylum is the same thing as a psychiatric hospital. Asylum is just the original term used which is now outdated and was replaced with the term psychiatric hospital. However, the term asylum does have a negative connotation due to the harsh conditions patients lived with during the early days of these types of facilities. Asylums did not focus on treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery to help aid/control symptoms. Their primary focus was to contain and restrain patients to control symptoms. Psychiatric hospitals these days focus on treatment using medications if necessary and therapy. On another note I don’t understand why she said it’s not a psych ward/ hospital. Psych is just short for psychiatric soo saying it’s a “psychiatric hospital” is literally the same thing as saying “psych hospital/ward. Also a psych ward is different than a psychiatric hospital. A psych ward, like you already said is in a regular hospital with a a section (ward/wing) for psychiatric treatment. Psych wards are also typically for shorter term treatment. A psychiatric hospital is a hospital whose sole purpose is treatment of psychiatric disorders and is typically for more long term care.

When I was in the psych ward, we weren't allowed roommates, but we could socialize during mealtimes and during the therapy sessions. Our hospital had two separate wings for the psychiatric patients. They were both secure but they were separated because one half were heavily medicated patients who were not necessarily violent and the other were patients who were violent. That half was always segregated from the other half.

Were the voices mean?you have to learn how to transmute the energy around you cause some of those people you’re hearing are your spiritual guides ancestors is the negative voice. You have to tell them to go. You have to learn how to work with the energy.

I 💯% support those with mental illness who choose to use psych meds. What ticks me off is when others close to them like them better when their meds are no longer working and symptoms come back. Or worse is when the person becomes severely depressed and no longer wants to be here. I'm that friend who shows up to fight for you. Please choose friends carefully! Not everyone who says they are your friend truly is. Friends stay with you through the hard stuff.
