Wow! This is amazing and I love your self critique and honesty about how your feelings are shaped throughout the painting process and up to the final product, but I disagree that this second one was worse than “Sinking”, this was just more bright and the color palette was a lot more pleasing to look at. I feel like the first painting was giving me some feeling like I was squinting in the darker half of a sunset trying to get the picture to come through…. But either way I love your style and your message is very real so cheers to you 🥂

I like both versions of your painting, and I’m not in the position to say add this color….but…I wonder if some very small touches of a reddish copper to the water would bring the extra zing you are looking for? Your paintings are awesome, but 'my story is worth being told' is literally the most cookie cutter perspective an artist can have and honestly a bit narcissistic. What makes your story of a 20 something y/o guy with a good relationship to his family, one or the other identity crisis and the typical ups and downs of life any relevant to anybody. Imo you should either think about trying to stop the self fetishization and maybe even leave the figuration out of your painting completely (for a while at least), or lean into it more and be more radical about it, because self absorbed 20 something y/o while self aware is at the very least kinda funny.

10:18 and what's wrong with that :/ Does it harm anyone? I also don't find hyperrealism interesting, it's boring. The one you showed could be a stock photo, there's not much art or expression in it, this is more like craft and in this category pretty impressive. But please... saying "fuck you" and being "frustrated" by that?? But then praising AI which is basically work stolen from people without consent for what? So that corporations can employ fewer artists, or craftsmen if we don't consider them artists anymore, whatever we call them. They are people who will lose jobs, straight up. And it will be fast, because AI was trained on everything there was, nobody asked for permission, this doesn't seem ethical to me. Will artists evolve? Of course they will. And they would without ai.

Honestly, I dont hate hypperealism. I paint in my own unique art style and I also have tried and still am trying hypperealism and I do it for the fascination. Not for the praise, in fact I never lie like the compliments. No one really likes my particular art style and i love it, I love how it feels to know I can feel something and I can store that feeling in the form of art. But yeah we all have our thing and I like how fun it is to draw realistically.

I love your videos also with your self critic in the end. In my opinion I like the new sinking more. I am much more a fan of the color scheme because it infact does not have too much colour contrast and colour that pops like in your first piece. It makes it look more natural and flowy and light. However I get that the positioning could be done different and more dynamic even. But I still love it overall❤

Super insightful and inspiring-thank you so much for sharing your process! To be honest, I prefer the first painting, but I can clearly see the progress and evolution in this one. This one is truly spectacular; I could imagine it being showcased in a company or museum, while the other one feels perfect for my home, lol.

I simply cannot understand this take on AI, specically generative AI as we’ve already seen the damage it’s actively doing to artists, but this painting is gorgeous and your work is 100% an inspiration to someone just like your inspirations are to you.
