From Tree To Lumber: Making Boards For Our Cabin Build From Scratch
มุมมอง 45621 วันที่ผ่านมา
We purposely did not cut down this good sized pine tree so we could enjoy it for many years.... Well Mother Nature had a different plan! After loosing its needles and hearing the Beetles Larvae boring holes in this nice tree we decided it was time to take it down and make use of the boards we make in this video. Felling this tree in the right location was nerve wracking to say the least. Enjoy!...

I was originally a little concerned and found it hard to find much information on the internet….it’s now been through 2 winters and I have not had any issues or cracking at all. We have about 18” of gravel under the slab as well. If money 💰 was no option I would have done frost-walls.

@@CentralMaineOutdoorsman Thanks for replying! Our property is near Calais and most people I've spoken with have "strongly" suggested to construct a crawl space instead of slab. No issues using my own timber. Each town is different, from what I understand it has to do with population of the town I believe. If the population of the town is under so many residents…. As long as I’m building myself and don’t hire a contractor to do the work, no inspections necessary. You can buy a ferrule kit on the internet but I found the ferrule to be too much trouble in the long run. I cut a fresh end, looped the cable around a 3/8” wire rope thimble, secured with two cable clamps, threaded the thimble thru a eye grab hook before securing the two cable clamps, and ended up with a better end for my FX110. The ferrule setup won’t hold up for 2 days when pulling in rocky soils, at least for me. Good luck.

Hey there! Glad you like the video! You’ve got a nice machine! Well it’s a pain to get the back hoe on the tractor unless you have it on nice level ground but you will get used to it as you use it. Basically as your getting the hoe connected to your machine you will need to hook up the hydraulic hoses and turn the rear remotes on and work the backhoe so that you can line it up and connect it to your tractor. Once it’s connected I like to run my machine around 2k rpm’s and you’re ready to work. If you don’t have a set of nice cleats I would make some or buy a set so your stabilizer arms have a nice footing. Enjoy!

You guys got so much more snow than we did (Clifton). The vinyl floor is a game changer. We only put it under the roost but would do the whole floor next time. It makes cleaning it out a breeze. We've had issues with nearly every predator, the biggest one...domestic dogs. But hawks too. We've got a large fenced area which is where the hawks got our birds, didn't have an issue with them when the chickens were free ranging. That may have been just luck though. I ended up running heavy red fishing line over the fenced area in a zig-zag. (500yds! haha) The theory being hawks can see it and won't fly into an area if they think they can't get out. Never had an issue with them after that.
