Thorogood American Heritage 1957 Series 814-3800 10 month review
Been running these Thorogood Work Boots 814-3800 for 10 months or so. I've had plenty of other brands over the years. JK, Red Wing, LL Bean to name a few. These have been the longest lasting best performing boots to date. Comfort and durability that surpasses the rest! Thanks for watching!

    Don’t throw out the old pair!! A little saddle soap/foaming leather cleaner and boot conditioner will give this leather a beautiful patina. Great review! Just got a pair of these 8 inch waterproof with the upland hunting sole today. Look forward to wearing them

    I'm looking for a good pair of soft toe, non-insulated work boots. I LOVE my Thorogood American Heritage Tobacco Steel Toe w/ Maxwear Wedge for when I'm working in the shop, on the concrete floor so I'm definitely interested in the 1957 Series Crazy Horse Soft Moc Toe MAXWear90's.

      @skycoh3581 the boots in this video are 814-414. I have another video on the same boot with max wear wedge 814-3800. Both are 1957 series and both of these aren't insulated, but do have a waterproof liner that's been awesome! I've tried a bunch of boots, but Thorogood is my go to! 👍th-cam.com/video/oFwI2P-rWSY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cdL09agyjIm9Q_Gr

    Back in the 70's and early 80s Thorogood's were all I wore and loved them! The place I bought them went out of business and no one else carried them. I switched to Hy-Test they were more comfortable but wore out too fast. I went to work a company that paid for your boots, and I started buying Redwings and could never get a pair that was comfortable. Sense I retired I've been wearing hiking boots. The other day on a whim I ordered a pair Thorogood moc toes and they were horrible! Not true to size, WAY to narrow and the leather was supper thin. They seemed very poor quality for a $250 pair of boots!

    *I know this video is old, and maybe you have new boots by now or maybe not I don't know lol 😅! Conditioning them would help you a lot with the boots feeling much less stiff. It makes them much softer and supple, so that way your feet won't hurt as much. Something like Bick 4 conditioner would be totally fine. It also extends the life of the boots more. Because the more boots are kept dry with zero maintenance, the more prone they are to cracking, and might get holes from the dirt, etc. It is good you do wipe them down though! I do still suggest conditioning them so your feet will hurt less whenever you wear them. Thanks for the review! JK Boots are very solid and durable boots! They're very strong!*

    • @trod7374
      @trod7374 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me they took a bit to get use to with the steeper heel/toe angle. Not anything too uncomfortable, just a few weeks of daily use and everything was much better. I do remember wishing I had ordered up a half size to allow a larger more comfortable insole. Outside of that they were an awesome boot. Get into a regular cleaning process with them and you be good to go. I ignored mine far too long and they got hard as a rock on the lowers. Hope this helped man! 👍

    • @trod7374
      @trod7374 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Both are fine. The wedge sole has a less aggressive tread pattern where as the Flyway has more of a traditional lug sole. Both have basically the same comfort level. Sole wear is about the same due to the sole compound being almost the same. I prefer the wedge sole just so I'm not tracking any more dirt/mud into the work trailer than necessary.

      Sizing is spot on for me. I'm a 9.5 in Redwing and a 9.5 in these as well as most other boots. My Nike running shoes I'm a 10. I went with the medium width. I'm on the skinner side of things 5'11" @ 175, so for me they have the right amount of width without getting loose through out the day. They do offer a wide version as well.

    How do they rate compared to your JK

    • @trod7374
      @trod7374 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The craftmanship on the JK's was the best I've seen thus far. You get what you pay for for sure. Thorogood not quite as good but definitely not as expensive either. Comfort wise the JK take some getting use too because of the tall heal, but after a few weeks that's not an issue. Thorogood is great right from the start. I work in wet conditions daily so the waterproof liner Thorogood uses is really a huge benefit for me. I know the JK's can be oiled and conditioned to basically get the same result...I'm just not willing to do what it takes to keep them in that condition. After about 10 mths of neglect the JK's were as hard a rock and in need of some serious tlc to get them back in working order. The Thorogood's in the same time frame and same neglect just needed a resole. Speaking of soles... The JK soles are firmer than the Thorogood. Softer sole wears faster, but adds a little to the comfort. For me the Thorogood does everything I need a great work boot. Price is fine and matches the quality. Long lasting enough and comfortable to wear all day in the conditions I put them through. I do see that JK is now offering a wedge sole boot called "Forefront" that I might try out. Just not for my daily work. Hope this helps. Any other questions just let me know.

      I don't have any plans on upgrading to a CGW trigger. The stock trigger was good enough for my needs. I can attest to the fact that the stock trigger does smooth out. It will take a few thousand rounds to accomplish this and the difference may not be enough for some. I'm sure someone has compared the stock trigger to the CGW. I agree...run it stock and upgrade if you feel the need down the road. I will say I have a CZ Shadow 2 and when I want better trigger feel and extremely tight groups I reach for that.

      @@trod7374 Awesome! Thanks for the reply. That makes me feel a lot more confident knowing that the stock trigger stays great and gets better! I haven’t had any issues myself landing hits with double action. Personally, I prefer a stiff double action anyhow. It makes me feel safer knowing that it has that little bit more safety. And I agree in any SD situation with the adrenaline pumping you aren’t going to to be thinking about the difference between a 12 pound pull and a 10 pound pull… I would much rather have a bit more stiff of a trigger that I KNOW is going to work, than a sweet aftermarket one that MIGHT have an issue… Also, as far as having the sweet light trigger I have a Canik and I have to say I love it. The trigger is so smooth and the gun runs everything I put through it. Super reliable and only $350 for a full size. If I need to be making any kind of crazy precise shots I always have that lol
