For an American the idea of a King may be strange, but we are more Democratic than the US system with near only two Parties and a horrible election system of Intermediate Persons intended to elect The President? And that our King reads from a manuscript in his private Office, well that's the tradition, as well as the King don't need to be protected from Gunshots from "Protective Weapons" which may be bought on any corner in the US, even by clearly imbeciles.

I agree with you, overall it was very good. But Frederik have never been a good speaker. A few of his have been excellent, mostly to his wife, but always with short sentences. I think this speech was more or less a replica of how his mother did, a small surprise that we saw him walking to the desk. I guess he soon will use teleprompter. Also notice that government have a word to say about the content, it all have to be agreed upon.

Actually, I think the rule is that you must burn down the Christmas candle before the end of the 24th of December to have a Merry Christmas. However, you are not required to burn down daily, you can burn down multiple days e.g. every Advent Sunday to catch up! :D

Soups are wonderful in winter time. Tell your Danish girlfriend to try make Arla's recipe for "Ostesuppe". It is a creamy leek cheese soup served with butter fried toast. It is so good and a winter favourite!

I think it's individual. I'm American and my husband is Danish, and we both keep the freezer full of food for ages. And yes, you can pretty much keep it forever, but the taste of it might not be as good. Especially if you have a "frost free".

Apparently they are called "fattigman" in Norway. And in my 30+ years here I yet have to hear anyone call it that, that.. We have "fattigmandskost" though, but that basically means cheap food.

Klejner is plural. For only one it's "Klejne".

Its the same in Sweden. Examples are Must and Semla

My dad called them "so-fitter".

I agree, a shorter election cycle would be awesome. A couple of months feels like plenty of time and less money spent so we could use the money to help our country build infrastructure, help schools, small farmers, etc. $15B is way too much!

in denmark, you dont need to be a gazillionaire to be the leader. you just need the party behind you and the public. thats it. its not the size of your bankaccount that gets you that position. its what you say and what you do. not like corrupt america where you pay your way to office. but then again denmark is also ranked 1 as the least corrupt country on the planet. i dont think america would even make the top10 in such a list😂

The Danes use a proportional voting system, so every vote counts, but this may not be a good fit for the US.

The press: Ain't that bad in the US. Try the press in the UK, they are all excerpt one, conservative and even the BBC is now a conservative media. A big problem is the "first pass the post" system, it really ain't democracy. If I remember correctly, Hillary Clinton had more votes than Trump, but lost. Same problem in the UK. The parliament does not reflect the will of the people. But the US has one good thing. In theory, it should be impossible that a dictator could take over. The military does not swear to the President, but to the constitution. It should ensure that a President with glue on his ass will be removed. At least in theory. Maybe it's time for Mexico and Canada to invade the US and restore democracy. When I am provoking the "Americans", I call them USAnians. And if one says he is American, I answer:" So, you are from Venezuela"! When I am nice, I call you US-Americans.

In USA you have to be very Rich to run for President. In Denmark this is not an essential criteria.

For the Danish system to work for the US, you would probably need to make many changes. Some of those changes are contentious. Like a voter ID, Geographic-based voting districts, and a lot more polling stations. Also, Denmark has many political parties, more like an actual buffet of choice compared to the USA, with just team Blue or Team Red.
