    The Greek style 😅 .. Also as an Audiophile, would say a bit too much for me. Yes, room is important, but I wouldn't go that crazy, personal opinion 😊 ! Of course here in Germany we have way different houses/apartments and our living room is for *living* and enjoying music and not getting out of the way of hifi gear. Just as a matter of curiosity, and not picking on these speakers, but it would be interesting to know what the manufacturer's/dealer's profit margins are on luxury audio items like this.

    • @GreekAudioGeek
      @GreekAudioGeek 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi - Good question. As someone who has been in the corporate world for over 30 years, I would say there are two different numbers: The gross profit or what I call "on paper profit" which is the difference between dealer price (notice I didn't say cots) and retail price. Then there is actual DEALER PROFIT or net profit which is what exists after the dealer pays shipping, spends time paying their guys to set up the speakers for you, pays income tax, property taxes, utilities for his business, business computers and store maintenance, vehicle costs for delivering, social security taxes, payroll taxes, marketing of the gear and trade shows expenses, general staff payroll and having to pre-pay your business taxes ahead of any actual income. In talking with dealers that makes the "paper profit" end up being a very small number.

      @@GreekAudioGeek The slightly larger 15 inch version of your speaker is almost twice the price ($70k vs $37k) so that's the kind of thing I'm curious about.

    Many years ago, England was the jewel of speakers, preamps and amps, with QUAD, Celestion, KEF, Monitor Audio, Leak-Wharfedale, and so many great brands. Unfortunately, an economic shift made them taken by a Hong-Kong group, and the Wharfies went to China to benefit cheap labor, as many do today. Does the average customer benefit any advantages from this ? I dunno. Today choosing a good DAC is a difficult task, because so many brands compete. Would you pay over 325K dollars for a pair of speakers ? No me fo' sure.

    Who does the world know as international hyenas. That’s who works behind the scenes to eat away at society’s core. It’s not about the money.. it’s about the destruction of traditional European culture. There once was a man from Germany that tried to stop this. But the hyenas conspired and defeated him. Now we are witnessing the consequences of that defeat worldwide. Our livelihoods are being outsourced to communism. And the people that brought the world communism are starving freedom and feeding communism.

    GreekGeek, the overtreating you mentioned is something i was SURE that a Wilson loudspeaker I knew in Monrovia California had done in his main room. several of my audio society friends would state that they didn't like Wilsons and I knew for sure that they based that opinion on that setup. he was using a full compliment of abfusers. THEN he opened up a new bigger room and moved his big Wilsons in there and without all the diffusionary product. BAM, suddenly there was imaging and depth not present in the first room. i will concede that the first room was smaller but if all that sound treatment had been minimised, there would have never been the problem. KUDOS!

    The Tobians have pro audio level power handling and a big horn-loaded compression driver, so it's no surprise that they can fill a room. I've recently gotten into pro audio, and I was floored to discover that the live rock'n'roll sound I've been seeking and not finding in my living room for 40 years can be had in a pair of $1200 Coda Audio HOPS8 point sources (paired with a sub, as they only go down to 60Hz.) The Codas are unique in that their speakers all feature compression drivers of their own design that utilize a pair of flat ring diaphragms instead of a 4" titanium dome. They're not as resolving or refined as the air motion transformers in my main system, but the way they fill a room with rock music is the crack cocaine of audio for me right now.

Cary offers an upgrade service, specifically considering upgrading to the Mundorf supreme evo silvergold capacitors, and Hexfred rectifiers. Sometimes internal upgrades like the Cary service will make a difference, though not always for the better. So call them up and be sure to understand what exactly it will do to the sound. I will tell you my VAC is the Special Edition version so I paid for the upgraded internals.

I won't mention names but I can think of 3 popular reviewers who are very suspect one of who always makes a big deal about not being paid but looks away from the camera when he says it ;) - it seems everything he tests is better than everything hr tested before. How can that be?

    • @bunsw2070
      @bunsw2070 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've been told by manufacturers that the magazines demand payment for reviews. Think of the biggest magazine in audio. They require $6,000 for a review and $16,000 for a positive review with cover photo. The famous guy that does vinyl reviews wont talk to you until you give him $6,000. These prices have likely gone up. Look back at old editions of these magazines. Do you think it's strange that certain brands where very popular a few years ago and now you wouldn't even know they were still in business?

    • @GreekAudioGeek
      @GreekAudioGeek 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Some also demand to be "paid" by receiving product they can turn around and immediately sell to make money. So while technically not getting "paid" via money being sent, they get "paid" via being able to immediately after review being able to sell the product for profit.

    First people didn't wanted to be called influencers (yet everyone making statements in public is an influencer). Why is it that you don't want to be seen as a reviewer? And please don't get me wrong, this is a sincere question. Since you have videos literally saying "review". I myself don't care about those terms if the person seems legit and honest. Which you seem to be.

    • @GreekAudioGeek
      @GreekAudioGeek 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great question - I use the word review in the screen captures so people have an idea what it is generally about. I'm not here to give a proper review per se with technical measurements and such. I think of Stereophile as an example of a proper review with its extensive technical measurements. Also reviewers - such as most other channels and magazines - make money on their content AND generally speaking will do reviews on stuff regardless of their interest in the gear as a matter of business. I on the other hand only talk about gear that I am personally interested in, say no to most gear that manufacturers ask me to review, and instead share my personal and completely subjective opinions on it. I am open and honest that it's just me talking about my journey trying new gear. Does that help explain the difference as I see it?

    In my pursuit of a better system, I did lots things, some considered snake oil by some people, and came to a point where I thought it couldn't sound better unless I buy more expensive equipment. I just purchased the book you recommend and will give it a try. Nice project for me during the summer holidays. Thanks again.

      Thanks for watching! I agree with you I was in the thinking of "buy more expensive gear". I've since come around to buy great gear and spend a bit on optimization and tweaking, and that often yields better results than automatically buying more expensive gear that is not optimized for your room.

    To be honest I smoked some cannabis, but you’re analogy about LED lights was spot on! ‘Non pun intended’😜

    Tannoy is to UK what Klipsch is to USA. Once Tannoy got bought out by the Manila based Music Tribe we all knew it was inevitable for them to integrate parts from their Asian suppliers. It's still excellent quality but the purity of heritage is skewed as the high end Tannoys are now Euro cabinets with Chinese drivers. I'll admit they sound excellent but at this premium price point and legacy, it really does muddy the value proposition if they are not discounting the speakers with 'cheaper' parts. At least Wharfedale admits to having Chinese manufacturing but they price fairly such as Chinese Lintons being much cheaper than American KLH Model 5s. Like you said, just be honest.

    I love mine and found just loosening (from the bottom) by half a turn made the biggest difference.

    Nice, not many videos on these. Will you get to try more from the range? They have a horn coaxial pair which look interesting

    My comments are always being censored and not just mine. A few ago a distributor on audiocircle, wrote an article about his weekend visit to a friends home, an audio dealer, that made him listen to these little LS3/5A like speakers that were way better than authentic LS3/5A's and they were only 1400$. I mean these speakers killed the LS3/5A that the distributor brought along with him to compare. Since I'm interested in buying a pair of LS3/5A's myself I wrote back thanking him for the heads-up and mentioning how it was to bad I could not find them for sale in canada. Someone else then answers to tell me that the so mentioned speakers are chinese clones that you can find everywhere on sites like AliExpress. Good thing I got a warning that someone had answered me and went to read it immediately, because only a few hour later when I got home, I went to re read the post and it was already erased.

      Very easily. Look how far Tannoy has fallen since being bought out vs. thew new Fyne Audio. Fyne Audio is "miles ahead" of Tannoy and it's not even close. Also Falcon Audio is a new speaker that easily sounds "miles ahead" of the original LS3/5A.

      @@tarquineous He was a dealer, but yes I almost got duped, if he would not be situated way down in Texas which makes shipping cost to Canada to high, I would probably have purchased them. The dealer sells them for 1460 US, they are 700 CAN on Aliexpress.

      @@GreekAudioGeek Yes, Fynn loudspeakers, now I remember why I am subscribed to your channel, you had Fynn loudspeakers and they were on my list for my main speaker replacement, but then you sold them really fast and that made me doubt my choice. I presently have Spendor SP1/2R2's, I have a love hate relationship with them, mostly love, as they do not destroy ordinary recordings, but that pumped up bass could be quite annoying on certain recordings, also I miss paper like cones. A big reason I’ve stuck with my spendors for the last 15 years is the amazing synergy they have with my FM tuner when listening to Canadian broadcast radio, it just sounds so good. Unfortunately, I cannot control the music that comes out of my tuner. My turntable is much better, but that little coloration I get from my tuner is magic. I’m not an exact science audiophile. Very much enjoy your channel.

    Monster Cable vs Blue Jeans Cable told me all I needed to know about how thin-skinned some of these companies are. Still, the US is a litigious society and few individuals can afford lawyers, so the threats do carry some weight.
