Thanks for this very informative video!! I sell fonts from 2021 on Monotype (my foundry is called Gravitype) but I'm not even close to your numbers, while MyFonts being my most "profitable" platform. I also sell on Creative Market, Creative Fabrica and Font Bros but I barely get any sale, I suppose because my top typefaces are sans serif families. Do you think it's worth to pursue this path in 2024, maybe changing style to please Creative Market more? I was considering abandoning type because this hasn't been sustainable to me; after a very little wave of visility on MyFonts following a new release, my typefaces get lost forever in the algorithm :(

This is such a great explanation of what the Light Phone can do... and the experience I had with it as well! I'm a creative and art / design teacher who owned my own advertising agency for almost 20 years. I'm an artist and father and husband and brother and son and friend too. Yo. The spatula analogy is SPOT ON, bro!!! "SPATULA CITY!!" I quit my ad agency in 2018 to get off line. It worked. No more "social media" - YouTooz doesn't count; I watch it on my computer when I'm on my computer. I got a Light Phone 2 back a few years ago and absolutely LOVED it! It rocked my world and changed my life for the better. I was able to enjoy television shows again. Talk with friends. Be present with family. Then I got sick - don't get mono if you're over 50 - and "had" to go back to a smartphone for doctors, insurance, blah blah blah. We gave the Light Phone 2 to the kids for our "house phone" and so they could text friends or whatever. They LOVE it. They have never had, nor do they want, a "schmart phone" so it's perfect. Anyway, now I'm about to order a second Light Phone 2 for myself again. I'm all better and I miss not having this inane distraction all the time. (I will keep my smart phone as my camera.) Oh! And the questions is totally right on too! I am still better about looking up questions right away since I used the Light Phone 2 the first time. It's like the good ol' days! In fact I'm SHOCKED when people ask a question like, "What kind of car is that?" and just IMMEDIATELY get their phone out and look it up. I like to just wait now / still.

As a matter of fact I can't even get a single variable typeface to show, just their bundled standard family properties. 1:08:08 For my sans serif font, I’m going to design it a double story a, not the single story that you just did.

double story a I sone of the tricks letters form me. you can do it in a variety of ways. I have seen people using the s flipped as the bowl and shoulder. I have seen people flip the n and go from there. Look at a bunch of different sans and see what will work in the context of your font. good luck

So I have to take away the left horizontal line of the lowercase n?

@@JameeiChowdhury1174 copy the n then flip it horizontally then delete the bottom stem on the left after the shoulder curve. then work it form there. I hoe that makes sense. Really there is no wrong way to go about it whatever gets it done. it takes a lot of working to make the a look good.

My sans serif font is a geometric sans serif. For example: Avenir Next is a geometric sans serif font, It has a double story “a” instead of single story a, So mine’s has a double story a.

Great video. I also switched. The Light phone 2, the boox Palma and the Remarkable 2 are my daily drivers. I love how it slowed down my life. How it, like yours, changed my mindset, my time and creativity.

Hi thank you for this video!! I would like to learn more about designing for myself, I'm having trouble deciding my own image, like how did you choose a rabbit? I'm my worst client!

I did this 5 footed Rabit as a logo concept for someone a long time ago but they didn't end up using it. I really liked it so I have just held onto it for the right project. it's kinda odd kinda extra.

Thx. Really useful. Love the way you explained this: do-problem-fix approach is really helpful aid to understanding.

Bought a Light phone about a month ago, but have put off switching over. Just didn't know if I could really do it. This video convinced me. My favorite time in life was the early 2000s when I had access to the internet on my computer at home, occasionally out in the world if I brought my computer with or if I ducked into a library computer lab, my music was on physical media (CD, vinyl), and I wrote on paper. I was more present, more creative, less distracted, and I didn't feel compelled to do work for social media companies by coming up with creative content I would give them for free and would drain me of the instinct to work on bigger creative projects. I do love my music library on Apple Music, listening to audiobooks I download from the library, and occasional podcasts. But, I think I can figure out ways to keep those in my life without having to carry such an incredibly powerful distraction weapon in my pocket. We'll see. Thanks for sharing.

Music for me is the biggest thing about not having a phone for sure. I work from home and am on a computer all day but when I am driving around the radio just doesn't cut it haha. LMK what you come up with.

When you sell your fonts, is this a one-time charge, such as you sell it once to that person and no one else can use it?

Thank you for a wonderful video! I am not a creative person really. However, I analyze a lot of things both for work and for hobbies. I believe that analyzing and problem solving are shared with creative types as you just outlined, I never realized that. I figured artists and creative types just sat down and boom it happens but it’s a process just like I have. This is really getting me thinking about ditching this shiny precious screen. Thanks for the perspective. It is appreciated
