Nice review from the other side of the word!! I was first going to buy a Classic but after trying the HNTR I went recently for this last one...both are espectacular and I am in love with my RE 350....buena ruta desde Colombia
@@er1631 Greetings from Australia. Great choice 😁 I hope you have a lot of fun and enjoyment ✌️
@@motostralia5563 Plenty plenty....
Nicely described, it's worth it if you can afford it but even the stock bike is great.
Well, you can no longer mount additional gas tanks to your bike. Not to mention there is nothing protecting your bike from getting dents and scratches when it goes down. To understand what those tank panels are, you really need to look at the 411 Himalayan. Those are mounting points for water and gas cans. You can also get side luggage racks if you didn't want cans or just buy and use the racks for crash guards. I can't believe that no one could answer this simple question. Any Himalayan rider should know this.
The traffic where you live is horrendous!
@@guderian7795 Ah, yes! I live in the Blue Mountains which is a very popular destination for Sydney people to visit. That amount of traffic is quite normal for a sunny Sunday morning. I forgot it was a Sunday and didn’t take the alternate route 🤦♂️
That Dug-Dug sound can still be achieved by changing the exhaust. Get a short drum silencer from Punjab. You will still miss the vibration going through your arms as RE has lightened the crankshaft. If you could get hands on pre-2005 models, you’d be amazed for the riding experience.
Thanks for sharing the Barrett pipe. Sounds nice and throaty. I'm also interested in how you mounted your GPS. I noticed you didn't place it above the dash screen, but below. Any chance of letting me know. Thanks.
@@paulmaher6163 Hi Paul, thanks for watching. I used an adjustable mount attached to the handle bars fitted between the bars clamps. The mount was given to me by a friend many years ago and has been on a number of my bikes over the years. I can’t remember, but I think it was a well-know quality brand like SW-Motech. I know they make a few different types of mounting systems, so maybe have a look at their range and see if you can find something suitable for you. Sorry I can be more of a help. Take care and enjoy the ride. Cheers, Len
@motostralia5563 thanks Len. No, that helps me get searching. Tah.
I am just wandering whether it's possible to attach some bars instead those panels
@@sundukibrahim2944 Hi, Sunduk. I’m not sure if that would be possible, but I guess it would need to be investigated to see what fabrication methods and materials would be needed. That’s part of the fun of owning and modifying bikes, eh? Thanks for watching. Cheers, Len
The mounts on the Himalayan fit onto this bike too. The Scram is a lightly modified Himalayan. The name is right on the bike! Please do some research people. How do you not do research on the things that you have?
I've seen several shorts on TH-cam now about the 865 kit and I've mulled over the Super Meteor 650 for months. My only reservation thus far is power. The claim of power being available with a Power Commander, pipes and a filter is helpful, but with California roadways it's nearly required to go from a dead stop at the on-ramp lights to a 0-60 and catch up to 70 mph in a rather short amount of time just to merge in certain very critical situations. Some ramps are much shorter than you may imagine as well. If the 650 is all we get for a while I'll be exploring my options to see if it's viable, but the 865 is something I'm certainly interested in short term.
both amazing little bikes, such great design - i want both aaaarrrrgggghhhh hahahaaa
Good video and the Valkyrie is an awesome machine I have a black 2015 ….think I will just hang me helmet over the mirrors though ha ha
This one is, by far, the best I’ve seen, exceptionally clean, beautifully designed, and truly a cut above the rest
@@SyedRahaman-y5s Thank you, Sayed. I appreciate your comments very much. Kind regards, Len
what a pretty looking bike you got.
@@rinzan28 Thanks, much appreciated ✌️
I ride over 33 years...and i love my Hunter!!!
Thank you so much for being so down to earth and honest in your review. I have recently retired and have come back to motorcycling after many years. I was not sure what I wanted to buy, but the biggest deciding factor was indeed available budget. Yes, if you're still working and deriving a good income, you can buy a more expensive bike, or lay out on upgrades without worry, but there are some who can't, but still want to ride. In the end I bought a used 2020 Interceptor with 1400 miles on the clock, that was about 8 weeks ago. The bike is factory stock except for the addition of the touring seat. What can I say except that I love it. It's powerful enough for me, power delivery is great, handling is fine, it looks great and best of all, it brings a huge smile to my face every time I Go riding. Some of the proven mods to this bike are really great improvements and maybe one day I may consider one or two, depending on circumstances, but at the moment I'm really enjoying what I have 👍👍. Once again, thank you for your review.
@@theoldhobbit3640 Thank you so much for your kind words; I’m pleased you enjoyed the video. Yes, the Interceptors are a great bike and it’s great to hear you’re enjoying yours. I hope you have many years of riding enjoyment into the future Cheers, Len.
I always preferred pushrod motors having had pushrod v twins and ohc motors. My 1900 and 1600 pushrod Yammies would thump compared to 1500 Kawasaki Nomad.
One of the best no-ego commentaries ever. Good on you
@@clivegower-collins9012 Thank you, Clive. I really appreciate your kind words. Thanks for watching and all the best for your motorcycling adventures. Kind regards, Len

Why spend money on a bike that was sold simply as a cheap go any where bike that was cheap and simple if I'd wanted more i'd by a machine that would do it and save money on chassis development.
@@johnrocker2986 Hi, John. That’s a good question 👍 For me, it’s about the challenge and fun of creating something special, rather than just buying something standard. I love the R &D process. Cheers, Len
From the UK, nice bike matie well done
I'm wondering...could you plug the ends (and touch up with some black paint) and then mount some fog lights on each side?
Those are accessory points. Stop degrading this bike people!
thanks
Superb audio and video! The narration is excellent and the music fades in and out perfectly. Wish more videos were this well done. My Rune is ...167 in red. Subscribed, cheers.

Which tank knee pads are those? I love the simplicity!
@@MrLeoZombie Hi, Leo. From memory, I think I found them on eBay. Cheers, Len

This was an incredibly helpful video. Thanks for making it. Would you mind sharing a parts list to keep the second tank fully ready to install for an easy swap?
@@MrLeoZombie I’m pleased you enjoyed the video, Leo. Unfortunately, I haven’t kept the parts list for the tank components. But, you will at least need an in-tank fuel gauge sender unit and a fuel pump. If you have a Royal Enfield dealer in your area you could possibly get the spare parts guys to help you identify the parts needed. Hopefully, they might be able to help. However, I do remember the extra parts weren’t cheap. Cheers, Len
Had my TA about a month, absolutely love it. I’ve considered exhaust slip ons but most don’t sound as good as stock (IMHO) and there are negligible gains. They have become stupid expensive aswell (£700-900 for a quality brand). Don’t think we can get these in the UK and after postage etc it’s probably not even worth it. Might try and pick up a second hand one sometime?
Hi There, I concur with everything you said in this video! I own the green Benelli TNT135, also Kymco Spade 150i and a Kawasaki Z125 Pro. I love them all but the Benelli fits a larger rider best out of the three. Owned big bikes all my life and find these smaller machine easy to buy, easy to own and just So Much Fun! Cheers. :)
@@TrialByFire76 Thanks for watching, I’m pleased you enjoyed the video. They’re such a fun little bike 😁

Hey, could you provide an update on your Barrett exhaust please? Still worth it. Great signature sound? As a former kiwi I think Aussies and exhausts are a perfect combo. They get it right.
@@Shaun-o1l Hi, Shaun. Yep, the Barrett pipe still sounds awesome. I reckon Barrett are the best sounding pipes I’ve had on my bikes, especially considering the price and the fact that you can choose your level of exhaust volume. And, they are quite easily re-packed if needed a number of years down the track. I highly recommend them 👍 Cheers, Len
@motostralia5563 Awesome Len, I appreciate your response. Aussies just know, as a rule of thumb, how to make a perfect exhaust sound. Not too bloated or flabby, not wimpy and Euro 5 etc It's beyond words in my opinion, although 'cool' is a satisfactory descriptor. Looking forwards to getting my Barrett for my Transalp. Shaun.
I have other modern bikes in the garage, l prefer the Classic, cause more similar to the 500 which is no more in production.
I appreciate the historic overview so much, deciding what to get for my very first bike. Cheers 🍻
@@vedran.brozovic Thanks, Vedran. I’m pleased you enjoyed the video. I hope you have fun during the process of getting your first bike and hopefully it will be the start of a lifelong source of enjoyment for you. Cheers, Len
I just bought a 1970 Titan today! Very cool bikes
thank you! grettings from argentina!
@@Ramonesletsgo1 Thanks. Greetings from Australia 👍
Anyone have a PDF version of the TM available for the t500?
I remember well when they first appeared in the U.K. back in the late sixties.I was 16 and lusted after one for years! In my humble opinion, one of the nicest looking bikes ever made!
That‘s one classy RE. Tastefully done.
Late to the party here. One advantage of the UCE 500 is the hydraulic valve lifters, no valve clearence adjustment necessary. The diagram of the pushrod arrangment shown does not relate to the later 500.
@@Vanrides. Hi, Vanrides. Thanks for clarifying that. Wrong diagram 🤦♂️ Cheers, Len
i have 2009 and 2019 500 love them.
Love my classic 350
I would take the old one over the new any day!
I want both.
I've seen some refer to them as chicken fillets, i've seen at least one correct comment, these are just something to hide the bar that the Himmy tank bars are mounted to. I really like the look of them on my Skyline blue Scram.
What do you think about converting a RE650 to a dual carb system, such as using Mikuni TM32mm carbs?
@@breadgarlichouse2265 For someone who loves tinkering with carbs, it would be an interesting experiment, for sure.
@@motostralia5563 do you think the 32mm is an appropriate size?
@@breadgarlichouse2265 I know that Hitchcocks sell a single carb 32mm conversion kit, so I m sure that would be appropriate for the 650 motor. They say that it gives increased power and torque, so if you’re considering doing the conversion, I’d go for it. If you do, please let us know how it goes. All the best, Len
@@motostralia5563 I’ve got pictures of it installed over the weekend. I used two 32mm Mikuni. But I can’t post pictures on TH-cam. Had to have two custom 70mm metal flange adapters made. 60mm rubber flanges are easy to find, but 70mm was difficult to find. **The Hitcock single 32mm carb kit meant for the RE500 classic** So in theory, I guess you could buy two, but I’m not sure how mm is the metal flange adapter that comes with it
The RE 650 also has pushrods that clicky clacky all day....terrible.
@@jerseyjoe82364 Greetings, jerseyjoe. I think you might have meant to say that the old model Classic 350/500s have pushrods. Cheers, Len
Fantastic video !!!
@@DavidAyotte-p5u Thanks,I’m pleased you enjoyed it. Cheers, Len
I've got the Classic350 because there was a great OTR deal going for stock clearance in the UK. But as a returning biker who prefers 'thumpers', I miss the kickstart and fine tuning the carbs.....the days of sitting on the garage floor & tinkering, beer to hand and 70's-80's rock & metal playing on the stereo. So I'll likely go for a newer RE Classic500 with it's kickstart, then eventually put a carb conversion back on. That's if I don't find a reasonable price 60's-70's Triumph Bonnie first.
@@niallwildwoode7373 I like your style, Niall. Old school certainly has its charms. All the best in your search for a golden oldie. But, but in the mean time, enjoy the 350; they’re a great bike. Cheers, Len
I just bought a black 2004 yesterday. Its art IMO. I don't plan on doing much riding. Will clean out my garage for the delivery next week.
