Today we will be exploring the Bermuda aquarium, museum, and zoo (also known as BAMZ), which was founded in 1926 - almost 100 years ago. This makes The Bermuda Aquarium and Zoo one of the oldest active facilities in the world. BAMZ houses over 200 native aquatic species in their aquarium, in addition to over 300 different species (over all) on its 7 acre property. Animals that you will find here on their grounds are both native to Bermuda and imported from around the world. Animals include: lemurs, turtles, eels, sharks, parrot fish, seals, an alligator, sting rays, flamingos, an octopus, otters, barracuda, parrots, frogs, geckos, lobsters, and so much more. Tickets for adults are $10s and for kids aged 5-12, they are $5s. If you want to become a member of BAMZ so that you have access to their facility 364 days a year, you can fill out a form. Memberships range from $10 to over $2,000 depending on what level of access you want to their various resources. BAMZ does have a restaurant at their facility if you get hungry. It over looks Harrington sound. Also, they have a play ground for kids (Discovery Cove).
Fun Fact: It’s not uncommon for animals to swim hundreds, if not thousands of miles to Bermuda’s beautiful pink shores due to distress or lack of food in their native regions. Over the decades sea turtles, birds, and other marine creatures have been identified, brought to BAMZ for aid and treatment, and then flown by cargo plane back to their habitat once they regained their strength.
