  • This video takes place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan National Sumo Arena (on day two of my visit to Japan). Sumo wrestling has to be one of the more interesting sports that I have ever had the honor of witnessing live. This sport first originated in Japan roughly 1,500 years ago, but this is a rough estimate. Believe it or not, this is actually the biggest sumo arena in Japan. It houses roughly 20,000 spectators and is truly a sight to behold. This arena will typically host the Grand Sumo Tournament in the months of January, May and September. There are also three other tournaments throughout the year in Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Most sumo matches last only a few seconds, but fortunately there are tons of bouts throughout the day! My experience here was one I’ll never forget. Sumo wrestling is a spectacle, steeped in tradition, grit, and true artistry. I'll certainly remember this day for the rest of my life. And I hope you too get the opportunity to witness this Japan's national sport. Thanks for watching and please feel free to leave a comment down believe - either if you live in Japan, plan on visiting Japan, are a fan or the sport, or simply enjoyed the video!
I apologize for any words that I mispronounced in this video!! Japanese is hard! Ha-ha! -__-
Have you ever watched sumo wrestling live? Who is your favorite wrestler? What sports do you like to do in your country? Could you eat as much as a sumo wrestler? If you plan on visiting Japan, would you every go to the Grand Sumo Tournament? What is the oldest sport in your country?

Loved the commentary and the effort to include some of the history. Awesome to see you guys got the opportunity to attend an event like this! Not often you see people who visit Japan spend time to be enriched with something as traditional as this. I had just seen Yes Theory's video where they stayed with the sumo wrestlers and realized how much I didn't know about the sport. Great video!

Bro thanks for the feedback! I always appreciate your input. I think I’m just lucky because my sister lived in Japan for so long, she truly wanted me to experience the culture like she did. I just never imagined sumo wrestling was what it turned out to be. Japan definitely has so many layers to peel back! And I’m glad it seems like you and so many others have an interest. We all need to take a trip sometime!

I've been watching it for just over 2 years now.
It's my favourite sport. I watch every tournament and keep up with all the gossip.

I’m very jealous! I wish I could do a deeper dive in sumo wrestling. It seems like one of those black hole type “things” that you can get lost in because of the the history, excitement, unpredictability and all the other unique stuff it can offer.
