Photography Pricing Rant - Real Estate Photography Pricing
Hey brother, just ran into your video and I love it. I am brand new in the business. I’m thinking of getting the ”Nikon Z6II” camera. However, heard that is not too popular for the real estate field because of the low quality and taking pictures in low light rooms. What do you think about that and if you have any recommendations on how to fix the problem if it is a problem with that camera.
Back in the analogue era I shot wedding videos with a Sony Hi-8 camcorder which I mounted on a gizmo called a Steaicam JR, a consumer version of the big 50 lb Hollywood film production gimbal system that required it be strapped to an operator who was specially trained for that & the system would hoist a 48 lb film camera & move it smoothly like it was gliding in space with zero shake. This little consumer one would only take a camera up to 4 lbs. I think I paid $500 for it back then. I see used ones on eBay now for $40. I used it on the dance floor at wedding receptions & the cool thing about it was that it had a tilt LCD screen so you could see what you were shooting even when it was hoisted over your head. Gimbal technology for video was new at the time & this thing was such a hit it got me more jobs. If you're looking to go super cheap...it will do the job.
For video, are you shooting 10 bit with an external recorder? Or do you shoot 8 bit in body?
APPRECIATE THIS VIDEO! I'm shooting with a Nikon 12-24mm DX lens, and your tips are very helpful as I deal with distortion and perspectives: THANK YOU for this!
why do these European peps pronounce Nikon different? so weird
Very clear I'll call you when i sell my house.
What ISO do use? Are you att 400? Or lower?
Great information I'm hooked on Godox Products. What is the Brand/Model of the second stand that you put your flash on?
Bought a new at the time Fuji xt30. After 1 year gave it up. Got a D750. People can have the mirrorless cameras. If you like packing a pocket full of batteries giver. Dslr have superior battery life. And D750 is just an all around better camera IMO. Cheers
OK, so this an issue with any ultrawide. I thought my sigma 14-24 looked exceedingly distorted. At even 20mm. But guess it's an issue with all ultra wides.
I've moved from a D810 to the z7II. In addition to the things you've mentioned I've found that the exposure metering is off/different from the D810. I'm always bracketing five frames in one stop increments and middle exposure is often off by up to three stops in Matrix metering. I'm trying center weighted metering to see if I can obtain more reliable metering. Secondly, I find that the viewfinder and lcd screen does not accurately display the preview or the final image once I've brought the images back into lightroom. If the problem was a consistent and predictable amount I would just use exposure compensation and I would simply change the brightness settings for both viewing methods. Lastly I've noticed that the Z7II like the d850 shoots with a bias towards cooler color temperatures. I've tried to offset this with the A2 setting with marginal success. collectively and cumulatively these changes place a burden on workflow. I'm still within the return window so I'm going to see if there are work around either through calibration, technique or workflow which I can offset these these issues. If I cannot, I will probably buy some more time by purchasing a D850 until these issues are worked out. Oh I just realized something else. The Z bodies don't have a PC sync or five pin port which are very useful for remote triggers either for triggering the body or bypassing the hot-shoe to trigger multiple flashes. Nikon is really making it hard for people to transition to mirror-less.
Or in other words, how to lie.
I'll keep both the D750 and Z6ll. I have 11 fast F-mount lenses and a Z-mount adaptor. Only 3 of my F-mount lenses will work with that adapter; the others are the screw drive type from my film days. I'll enjoy both and limit the number of Z-mount lenses to the 3 I have now.
Looking into purchasing a d750 for real estate photography and all-around shooting
This is something I’ve had to explain to sooooo many agents, it’s ridiculous! So glad you did this. Old video…still relevant.
Nice video Jeff, may i ask what do you set to focus with that non autofocus lens?
Love your video Jeff, thanks for posting.
I got the exact same pole & mini tripod. But how do you connect the two? They both have like a screw at the end or bo††om. Is some kind of adapter needed?
Hi I try to setup Auto bracketing to function 1, it didn’t work. Can you tell me the workflow? Thanks
Am I correct in thinking you don’t shoot flambient? I don’t, I just never learned.
The problem is not the flash is that you are shooting Nikon hahahahah
The door on my flash has always been easy to open. I think the tight door is either the result of shrinkage or a drop.
Only thing good about mirrorless is eye autofocus and video. But the Cons aree too many.
Very interesting I confess to have jumped to Sony after couple of decades of Nikon - sold my d750. My other camera is Df which is WoW for me - (accepting it is crippled with a D600 Focus) - there’s something about that Df which is hard to describe The AF on the newest Sony blows Nikon away IMHO. I completely ignored Nikon Mirrorless
I recently purchased a z6ii and really struggling to get my flash operating. Do you ever use flash and if so do you share these issues? I am using the Godox X2Tn and Godox AD200 and AD400. (FYI using this for real estate photography). Here are a few issues I am experiencing.... 1) I can't seem to get LIVE VIEW to display real-time changes I am making when changing shutter speed when the trigger is ON. If I turn the trigger OFF, I can alter the shutter speed and my view lightens/darkens in real-time. However when the trigger is on, it has no effect, nor does the histogram change either. 2) When I turn the trigger off and set my optimal exposure, and then turn the trigger ON (thinking this is my only option), the flash fires, but provides the same brightness regardless of how light or dark I set the exposure (fast or slow shutter speeds). Flash and Trigger are all set to MANUAL (not TTL). 3) (Sometimes) it seems that the display DOES provide real time views of shutter alterations and I can't for the life of me figure out what is changing. Just when I think it is working, I return to find that randomly it is not. I appreciate any help I can get. So frustrating.
What's with the Tripod-Monopod thingy holding the speedlight? You did not mention as to who makes it? Cheers!
Hi, thank you for the information. Appreciate if you can share with me the mini tripod you use for the V-860. Thank you
Thanks for sharing
What is plan B? Every real estate company has a no soliciting sign on the door around here.
When using the Godox trigger, you should understand the difference between group settings and channel settings. Good luck :-)
nice vid. :-)
Can you trigger the both of them at the same time ?
Hi Jeff thx for great video. I saw you in another video with a Sony A6000 and now hear you also had the A6500. I'm planning to get into Real Estate videography and probably also stills. Whats your opinion for someone like me starting out on a very tight budget between those 2 models or should I rater wait and save for a Sony A7iii.
I have watched dozens of real estate videos over the last few weeks - you are the only one who has suggested using 24mm to control distortion. I have gone out and bought a 9mm and a 12m manual focus lenses for my crop sensor Sony A6000. I will have to rethink what lens to use !
Nice review, but some sample images to see how it performs would be nice.
Years later...but, "farming"="crowdsourcing". You may have figured this out by now. Welcome to the Gig Economy.
Great stuff!
How long do you take to edit a shot with windows?
I did the reverse: bought a Z6 on sale, love it, year later buy used D750. I use the 750 as a hiking/tough/everyday body. The Z6 for video/street/portraiture. Lots of times I bring both with two different primes/telephoto. They both can share batteries and have almost the same modes it’s fantastic
Hello, what is the brand of the light diffuser dome you are using on the AD200? Thanks
I love z6
What is the power of the flash? Does it stay the same for each scene?
Jeff, let me remind you, "GET SOME GELS". 😁
Very good demonstration I have very wide angle lens but I do try to use 24mm
Nice video man. Can I ask, did you shoot some of the sample photos at the start of the video with the same ad200 as well? I'm debating picking up the 300's and am definitely intrigued now with your work. Cheers!
Great video thanks. Using the 750/14-24 combo myself but need to incorporate video. Also just bought the DJI RS2 Pro Combo and I noted that the 750 is not on the compatibility list for the RS2 and I want to use the Raveneye system. Looking for good camera alternatives for video. If you have any feedback on this...would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff.
Hopefully you eventually figured out to use an S2 bracket.
Jeff , pls send me a link for the diffuser dome you got there . Thxs
PS. I'd be keen to hear how you went with the Godox XPro trigger, did you buy the Nikon variant? Are you having the same white balance issue if so?
He would have to be using the Nikon variant, and the white balance issue wouldn't change depending on trigger - the triggers are only going to control flash power; these flashes don't have adjustable white balance. I've only just started using the AD200 myself but I think it's why many people opt for the AD600. A number of photographers have said that it's not just about the extra power, but it's about the fact that the colour temperature from an AD600 at 1/3 power will be more "accurate" than an AD200 at 1/1 power
Hi Jeff, fellow Aussie here!! It's refreshing to see some Australian real estate content. Wanted to thank you for suggesting the AD-S2 reflector, I just got this for my AD200 Pro and it's amazing!! Cheers mate!
