Whenever they pull me over and start picking BS defects, I tell them straight up I am a mechanic and I do road worthy's for a living. If they continue to keep going, I then ask for them to cite the exact part of Vehicle Standards & Safety, light vehicle construction & modifications, and ADRs. 10 out of 10 they can't. If they then push further I just tell them that I will win in court as I am qualified and they are not. Never back down from the Gestapo.

You wouldn't believe how many lifted Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator are in the outer Western suburbs of Melbourne with ridiculous wheels that are very obviously not roadworthy but they just cruise about and the cops don't say a thing. Doesn't make any sense.

i had the cops needing 1 more item to major defect me, so they said my headlight were sandblasted to get me off the road , not to mention the rest of the bullshit they did to get the first 2 items in the first place , if they have it out for you they will dick you on whatever they want ,lucky for me at the time i was working at a shop with a roadworthy tester and had my car back on the road the next day without doing a thing as there was nothing wrong in the first place lol

Better than most cars in the same class. Fuel usage depends on the driver's attitude. But yes,spares are a big problem. But lot of spares can be substituted with other brands.

I hate the nanny laws too, but you gotta play the system. Engineer cert and mod plates are a must and will save you further headaches later down the line.

Come to NSW for some real fun. I got a red defect (requires a full inspection) for a dirty number plate on my motorcycle and when it was repaired they put a small reflector (size of a $2 coin) on it. I had been pulled over plenty of times and no cop had ever said anything about it. He told me it looked like I was trying to 'deceive' and it was a $500 fine, but he was 'nice' about it and just defected me instead. He was that nice he gave me until 5 o'clock to get it home then after that I couldn't ride it. He was a complete smoker of bats.
