The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge was tough!
มุมมอง 334หลายเดือนก่อน
After my grandad died last year, I wanted to do something to remember him and raise some money for charity, my grandad suffered from dementia which is a horrible disease. Being a Yorkshireman and a keen walker it seemed the right thing to do in his memory was the Yorkshire three peaks challenge. This challenge is a hike over the three highest peaks in Yorkshire a total of 25 miles in under 12 h...
Yorkshire walks - Catrigg force a hidden gem

Today we headed to the Yorkshire dales for a walk from Stainforth to Langcliffe taking in some of the fantastic scenery. We set off from the car park at stainforth, crossing some lovely stepping stones over stainforth beck and onto goat scar lane. After a short walk taking in the sights of the surrounding fells of Pen Y Ghent, Smearsett scar and Ingleborough, we arrive at Catrigg force a stunni...

Walking the wainwrights : Raven Crag
มุมมอง 1243 หลายเดือนก่อน
Raven Crag is a fell in the English lake district. The dramatic rock face towers over the north end of Thirlmere reservoir and provides excellent views from the summit. The walk is one of the fastest ascents to the 461m summit taking less than an hour. We had a child free night so headed off to the lake district to take on a wainwright fell and stay at a popular campsite, stonethwaite campsite....

Great job mate, thanks for sharing. I wonder if you removed the anti-roll bar forever.
@@myke0703 thanks mate, I think it would be okay. The Range Rover classics didn’t have anti roll bars but it would be a bit wobbly. I only run a front arb and it’s fine for me
How many liters per 100km does your Disco consume on average?
I’ll be honest It’s between 7 and 9 litres per 100km though I don’t check it very regularly. For me it’s more smiles per gallon than miles 😀
@@TheNorthernExplorer 7-9 is great. I drive a 2001 petrol jimny 1.3Liters 86Hp and cant get this thing below 10-11. So trading the jimny for a disco wouldn't be a bad idea i guess.
@@oxdudepoege sorry I worked that out wrong, it’s more 9-11 for the disco
@@TheNorthernExplorer nonetheless 9-11 diesel is still better since this is the bigger more capable car.
Surely that’s not M5! Must be M10 at least!
Just watched it back and I think you might be right! Maybe the cold got to me 😂
just got my truck back from the garage they put hd axles and flanges on the back and used some horrible looking silicone as a gasket on the flanges and charged me a small fortune will do it myself from now on
That’s the reason I do it myself, most places I’ve been have done a poor job. Have a go yourself and if you ever break down you can fix it yourself 👍
I just broke my seal puller trying to get the seal out. For you, it looked easy.
@@r0tekz oh wow it must have been well in! Only other way is to chisel the seal
@@TheNorthernExplorer I have ordered a stronger seal puller!
@@r0tekz hope it does the trick 👍
Beautiful
@@mclafton thank you
What size socket
Socket is a 52mm
nice video well done
Thank you
I personally wouldn’t be raptoring the body work. It ages the car terribly I reckon and I’d hate to think how much work it would be to revert back to a smooth finish.
@@carltonr3417 I’m only planning on doing small bits with the raptor I know what your saying but I think it could look quite good
Do you plan on painting the roof/bonnet black or using the "tintable" Raptor paint? I've seen a few examples of vehicles painted using the tintable Raptor and the results were always a bit... strange. Worst one was a Zambezi Silver Disco' and, although the owner seemed happy with the result, the paint was just a sort of dark battleship-grey. I've also seen a green Defender painted with Raptor and it just looked like it'd been painted NATO OD. Personally, given that there's probably no chance of getting anything like a colour-match, I'd probably use black Raptor and then it'll at least look like it was intentional, rather than just looking like I screwed up the colour.
@@SiCrewe yeah I’ve never really liked the look of tinted it always looked a bit naff, my plan is to just paint the centre of the bonnet in raptor black and keep the normal paint on the edges
Good luck with the new direction Dan!
@@Egirk thank you
From what iv seen on other videos you'll need a fair few of those rollers as they clog up quite quick. Iv always wandered what texture they would give roller with the gloss rollers if you fancy doing a comparrison 👍🏽 look forward to seeing more progress.. Be interested in seeing the grill video also 👌🏽
@@bigtone2005 I’ll see how I get on with the small jobs first but could do a test on the roof.
Nice job what thickness place is this cheers
Thanks, I think it was 3mm plate
Got a reverse bulb out mate :) Nice work
@@rosscoupland5833 haha yep it’s been out a while 😂
Yes Bruv great work so far. I have to do the same thing. You’re scaring me.
@@robertgrant07 haha thanks, don’t be scared it’s pretty straightforward. Just take each step at a time and you’ll be fine 👍
Good thing about having a Land Rover is that when motivation DOES strike, there's always something to sink your teeth into.
@@SiCrewe oh I have a good few projects lined up! I just need some time to get them done
Lancaster?
@@camelk464 yeah, well Morecambe 😀
Mm, simple fix. Good. Disco 2's have a harmonic balancer on the rear axle. Perhaps it was fitted to reduce vibration?
@@sleepycatpictures1176 maybe! The d1 had one on the front axle but I removed it, didn’t make any difference in my experience
My last Defender sometimes made a noise like it was "dragging a chain behind it". It wasn't subtle either. It sounded like there was a 10ft length of anchor chain dragging along behind it. Spoke to several LR specialists and nobody had ever heard of the issue. Took a couple of them for a drive and they were baffled by it. Even went as far as having somebody else drive it while I hung out of the back and tried to see underneath. Hard to believe that something so distinct was something nobody had encountered before. Never did find out what it was because somebody kept pestering me to sell it and eventually I gave in and flogged it.
@@SiCrewe haha it drives me crazy when it’s a noise I don’t know
9/10 was the front output wobbling around..I wrote on Discoweb all about this.. AND how to fix all these issues as I have 'tuned' a D1 to 75mph+ smoothly while Lifted.. The factory 30 degree clocked Front driveshaft was also a pretty bad idea LR corrected in the D2's and many people like me put on their D1's

Fantastic video and a fantastic effort! I hope Grandad would be proud of you. Has it inspired you to do more challenges or has it put you off for life?
@@nealeford1964 thanks neale! I’ll be honest when I’d finished I said never again but now we’re looking at the national three peaks 😂
A good how to vid thanks. If you had moisture getting into different from hub, then the inner shaft seal would need to be leaking, and some oil would have come out of the bearing too. I didn't know you could get heavy duty drive flanges, maybe some thread lock on the nut would stop it escaping 😃
@@chriswalker4272 thanks Chris, that is a good point 👍
Can you please tell me how you fit the Disco 2 grills on the Disco 1 bumper?
@@1ELforce the grille is a pretty straight forward fit, it does touch the bumper and requires a bit of modification where the headlight trims fit.
@@TheNorthernExplorer I will put the disco 2 grille this week, that’s why I am asking
Lovely place to spend some time. The salmon would be brilliant to see

@@Reaper4367 thanks! It’s a bit of extra training for the Yorkshire 3 peaks
great job there! loving those backlight grills, where did you get them?
Thanks! The rear Grills were already on the car when I bought it. I’m not sure where you might buy them
😮is it yours?!?
@@mclafton not mine, it’s my dads. Would you like to see more?

If you send me an email I’ll sort something out for you 👍
As random as this sounds, check the bolt holding the front wing to the bumper and check the bracket concerned as well.

Great efforts in the repairs. Hope the 'sqeeley's' are gone for good. I have to replace the same fuel 'return lines'? myself on my Green Beasty. Top stuff. Cheers for sharing.
@@Reaper4367 thank you, I think I have solved the squeal. The fuel lines are really easy to replace, there are also kits online to replace the lot quite cheap
