TAPgiles is a Dreams teacher and consultant.
Dreams is a PS4 game/application used to create anything you can think of all using the same tools. Since the beta I've become something of an expert at how Dreams works and how the tools can be used.
I believe creation is one of the most important acts for people to partake in--for their own wellbeing and mental health. Dreams allows such a high degree of freedom of expression that so many more people can stretch their creative muscles easier than every before!
For this reason, my goal for the past year has been to help people learn how to create in Dreams. I produce daily tutorials to demonstrate how to do things using the tools, stream weekly to help people live, and scour the forums of the internet looking for people to help and questions to answer.
I do this thanks to my supporters who generously donate a little money to help me pay the bills while helping as many people as I can in as many ways as possible. Thanks everyone!

i still dont understand how this works. i can see how lowering the detail is easy, but how can you then increase it? it'd have to still remember that shape of the original sculpt right? how is sculpture detail different than physics cost?
0:48- 😂😂😂 [gr8 joke!]
LEGEND!!! I had no idea there was a fix for camera jerk
have you noticed that if lots of variable modifiers activate in the same frame they give inaccurate results? or am i doing something wrong?
As in, some modifiers don’t trigger? Not that I know of. Could it be whatever is triggering them though.
@@TAPgiles i had this thing where you could suck up ammo balls and they would modify the ammo variable when they got close enough to you, then destroy. a few at a time would work fine, but when youd suck up a lot at once, youd start getting MORE ammo than you should. like youd collect 18 ammo and be given like 22. i ended up solving the problem by just moving the ammo drops farther apart lol.
How do I turn off the procedural stuff I am trying to make a custom run animation and they make it really hard to for some stupid reason
I show how to do that right near the start. There are 3 switches. Turn them off to turn off procedural animation.
@ thank you bro🙏
how can i do different amounts of damage depending on which object you get hit by? is that impossible? cause impact sensors cant sense tags for some reason
Impact sensors can trigger based on the label. A tag is simply a point in space, so that’s not relevant to an impact sensor. Alternatively you could put health modifiers on the objects, with the impact mode, and set whatever damage you want to set on them.
@@TAPgiles yeah i think i was assuming tags worked more like in LBP. in LBP tags were both a point in space, and a way to label objects... i think. ill probly do that. thanks for your replies and your documentation of Dreams!
I believe I asked for something like this. I love it. I can figure out if it can arc or not.
That...was...AWESOME!!!!
Really great and elegant solution. Though it will struggle with more complex levels. It already kinda is in the video, because the enemies have only information locally what the nearest exit position is. It could probably be expanded by incorporating a cost value like the A* algorithm in form of the distance from one exit node to the other.
thanks for this, had no clue how to make a toggle with one button
Its too fast dont understand anything 😢
Oh really? I’m sorry, it seemed pretty step by step to me. You can pause between steps, or play it at a slower speed if that would help.
I followed this but I notice the camera is always shaking slightly even when not touching the controller. How to you get it to be smooth?
Is your rig far away from the centre of the scene, perhaps? If something is really far from the centre, the math for positioning gets twitchy and inaccurate.
Tanks man❤
Hi bro I’m trying to work out how to drop the object I have got to the part where I can pick up object only when it’s close but how do you drop the barrel. Thanks bro
I show this around 18:30. Basically, turn off the teleporter.
Damn man, this really helped me, thanks!
Needed this! Thanks dude
great
*it does come with one!*
Can you teach me how to make it flashy like your Dice Roll Demo?
I'm not involved in Dreams anymore. But to give you a start, you can use a mover pointing up and a rotator with a random spin. Power those briefly to launch it into the air and let it tumble naturally. As for the popup readouts, it's a bit complicated. Uses exclusive gates, but I won't get into the full details, it's just pretty complicated, I'm sorry. The more you want to control how something works, and make it cooler and more fancy and custom, the more complex the code or the logic will be. So, maybe keep it simpler until you can figure out how to add whatever special effects you want to it.
How do I add a button push sound
If I remember correctly, add the sound effect, tweak it and set it to "once" mode. Then power it when you want the sound to trigger.
Could this work with a grid based turn based game? Kinda like the old game deadly rooms of death?
It would be difficult with this, perhaps. Or at least, you'd have to set it up differently with extra logic for each space, something like that. Main thing is, now you know this technique you can expand it to work how you want it to work. 👍👍
It never occurred to me that you could emit logic. Thank you.
What engine is this
It's an application on Playstation called Dreams. 👍
Question. I have a big issue at the moment with timelines. I want a timeline to set off after a certain ammount of time and when its been triggered. But it only sends a single pulse and not letting the entire thing play out on Loop. Its quite jarring and I've attmepted systems in order to have a keyframe set the timeline to Loop after it is set up. This however does Not work and im ripping my hair out not understanding. I know you've stopped uploading but i am hoping for some help. Understandable if not.
Here's an old video of mine, on getting a timeline to loop in different ways. Hopefully one of the techniques will help 👍 th-cam.com/video/gLZ-TcFQXhs/w-d-xo.html
Hmm "ReTapped" sounds fammiliar..
Thanks for helping me. You earn a sub😊
Thank you! This helps a lot! Keep it up!
Absolutely incredible what you've managed to create in dreams
Very helpful! Do you know how I can make the laser 3D? I’m trying to make the shard diffractor from deep rock galactic.
You could up the impasto setting. Or copy the paint stroke so there are 2, at 90 degrees running along the same path.
How do you make a character walk up stairs.
They should be able to walk up stairs anyway. You may need to adjust the stair height to get it to work nicely. And/or adjust the puppet collision so it’s not hitting the stairs.
Say I did Mario on the first frame and it took a while… On the 2nd frame…Do I have to draw Mario again? Or it’s possible to copy the first drawing on the 2nd frame and just edit for simplicity
You can copy individual strokes of paint and move them between frames. Not entire frames though. I’d recommend doing it the way anime does it, where they have multiple layers of the character. Some stay the same (just don’t change the frame), some change (like the mouth). Your can also simply animate the position of paintings. Like move the limbs around etc.
A big thank you for your precious tutorial, it is with all this tutorial that the community of dreams continues to live and that beginner dreamers (of which I am one) develop a taste for creation 😍
You're very welcome! Glad my work is still useful for folks ☺️
Can you make this puplic to use?
It is, isn’t it? Check the description for the scene.
I followed the instructions for a Death animation. But now it's gotten stuck in a logic loop. I don't know why.
Watch it in edit mode, to see what’s lighting up to understand what is happening and why.
My character is moving on its own and I can't figure out why.
Maybe you added a sculpt or something which is colliding with the puppet itself which would give it a shove. If so, make sure it’s non-collidable.
@@TAPgiles So I haven't added anything to the scene yet, I'm only working on the character right now. I somehow got it to stop moving on its own, but now when I'm animating the up/down head motion, it's doing THAT on its own. I like the motion, but I'm not getting any control from the right stick yet, even though I've followed the video. At least to the best of my ability, it goes a little fast. Thank you for making this video, by the way. It's been very helpful so far.
Presumably you’re using a timeline to animate it up or down. A timeline will just run by itself until you control it, which would be later in the video.
Very helpful, Thanks
hey, i was wondering, was it you who made the scenery for this video?
If you mean the rig demo toward the end, that’s credited at the start. It’s by Martin Nebelong. Or martinitydk is his PSN.
The video has no sound 💀
Nope. It’s just a short I send to people to show how to do that one thing; it’s muted on purpose.
This is what I needed.
Nice :D
Hogwarts Legacy should had let us sit whenever. 😩
LOL XD
I don't know if things has changed, by 3 years, but now days, I followed step-by-step, and my character is doing the whole slide-float off the floor movement. I likely have to start over. Something might of went wrong on my part. Your tutorials are helpful, thanks for the video.
If you try using the rig in the collection (linked in the description), does that one work? It could be something to do with collision settings or something...
hey i was trying to make a sculpted ui health bar grouped to my third person camera but whenever i use a key frames to make the healthbar move depending on damage the sculpt kind of glitches back and forth when moving the camera I was wondering if theres a work around for this ive tried teleporter’s and movers
You might need to use “keep changes” on the keyframe and pulse it on to set it to that position-something like that.
I know you probably dont upload dreams anymore but lemme tell you. Youre helping me be the first to ever make a playable wrestling game on dreams. 🎉
Aw thanks! Yeah, my Dreams work is over now, sadly. But I'm glad what I've done over the years is still helping people! <3
Sorry for commenting on an old video, but I've watched over and over..have everything identical, however, while my timeline is active, none of the other controls work. If i simply turn the timeline off, everything goes back to working, but obviously i cant look up and down..ive dug everywhere and looked around for help with no luck...your my last hope!
Did you keyframe the position of the puppet group itself? If so, that will lock the puppet into place. You should avoid keyframing the puppet object as a whole, otherwise it won't be able to move.
@TAPgiles thanks a million! After tinkering with it for a few days i finally got it! The puppet would return as a whole to the exact spot the key frames were active!
hey I know this is somewhat of an old video i was just wondering if you could help me with animating the left and right movement while on the ledge
So you know how you split the left stick to get the X? If you split the X, you'll get +/-, where + is how positive it is, and - is how negative it is. So you can use + to power an animation shimmying one direction, and - to power an animation shimmying the other direction. Hope this helps :D
Force possession doest work for me for some reason
Make sure you have the controller sensor attached to an object.
Wow awesome
Wow you're so smart 👏
Can this be used to make the rumbler shake a certain players controller? I was trying but couldn’t get it to work
Yes! th-cam.com/video/xvPqC8F9jcY/w-d-xo.html :D
