    The trick is to loose weight so you can run.

    • @MustardSeedRunning
      @MustardSeedRunning 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s definitely the case for some people Michael. You’re spot on. I wasn’t at the point where I couldn’t run at all when I started. For those who can’t because of the weight I would say you only can’t until you can. Walk it out consistently picking up the pace and or time on feet until you can start to add in a jog here and there during your walk and build running into it gradually. I started at around 100kg and was able to run/walk. For the bigger guys, just get started with walking as I described in this comment and build progressively. I’ve seen some big guys and girls at my local Parkrun do just this and are continuing to lose weight as they run and it’s a strong inclusive community at all the Parkruns I’ve been to for people to start and continue their running journey. Got to find that strong enough ‘why’ to get started and stick at it.

    Great information.. I would like to know how old you are and when you started running. Do you have to be fat adapted already or will this get you fat adapted? I listen in 2x speed and the subtitle help a lot. Thanks.. I'll be a new 60+ y/o subscriber.

      @MustardSeedRunning 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there. Thanks for dropping in. I’m 53 and started running at 50 (Started Feb. 2021 from the couch). Fat adaptation is a bit of a broad understanding. You’ll become more efficient burning fat as fuel as you train at those recommended intensities & time for sessions. Seasoned marathoners and ultra runners have greater utilisation because of the big and regular easy miles they run, for example. Us mere mortals can utilise the same fuel switch to increase fat oxidisation at any point. Just not to the extent they do. Just got to be smart & healthy to have the necessary glycogen stores for the appropriate sessions. Hope this helps. Happy running! Would like to hear about your running journey.

    I recently started going to the athletics track once a week where I would alternate between speed and cool down laps. Would you consider this fartlek or is it more VO2 max type workout?

    • @MustardSeedRunning
      @MustardSeedRunning 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question Dave. Although speed repeats like this will build your VO2 max (as will any steady and safe progressive training load), I wouldn’t necessarily classify it as a focussed VO2 max workout unless each repeat steps up you HR a bit more. Even though you’ve got the structure of 400/400 with the laps, if you’re kind of playing around with effort and going hard then going easy without a real kind of specific pace or effort you’re trying to nail down, I suggest you’re pretty much in Fartlek territory 👍. I don’t want anyone to get too stuck on categorising workouts but moreover acknowledging and recognising how different workouts and runs fit into your training for optimal results that you’re after. Really hope this helps. Thanks again for the question mate. Btw, I like a 400/400 session myself for about 4-6 reps. I haven’t done them for a while. Overdue I reckon.

    People keep telling me to get one... But all my the indepth reviews suggest these are not very plush/soft. "Moreover, this shoe isn't tailored for those who appreciate a plush-running sensation. " I love soft and squidgy and extra bouncy. Hate any shoe that is at all firm. How do you think I would get on with these. Current favourite shoes have been Hoka Tecton x2 and True motion nevos next gen.

      Thanks for commenting and asking. I'm an ASICS man because I know they work for me. I don't have any judgements on other brands. I have heard the Superblast described as Novablast 3 on steroids. It honestly felt like this straight out of the box for me. If you like soft and squidgy and extra bouncy these would suit, but it might take a few runs to learn how to maximize their use. I wouldn't necessarily use these mainly as a daily trainer or easy runs. They do like some effort put on them to get the most out of the soft, squidgy, bouncy energy return out of them. Good luck find some at the moment though!

    If you’re adding 25% per week as a beginner, what would that actually look like in terms of mileage?

    • @MustardSeedRunning
      @MustardSeedRunning 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. There’s a few factors to consider, but will give some approximates. How many days a week and what distances or duration are you running? Some examples: • 10km in a week +25% would bump it to 12.5km. If that’s over 3 sessions it’s not much of an increase on each run, so you could bump 1x run by 1km and another by 1.5km. That’s still significant because you’re adding time on feet of over maybe 10min for the week which will build over time. • Whatever the mileage you’re doing, break up the increases over your sessions. For a beginner runner, I’d suggest no more than 1-1.5km per run. • For your weekly longer run I suggest adding time rather than distance of around 10min. • Intensity of your runs will be a factor too. That’s why I would recommend how long you run in time rather than distance. Mileage would just be an indicator of progress & intensity. Hope this helps. Good idea for another video too, ‘How to increase your mileage.’
