Hot water outdoor shower | how we live off grid camper life
We've been traveling around Norway in our camper for the past 4 years and this time, we upgraded our setup to include hot water showers - heated by the sun! Having a hot shower while looking out on a glacier lake was a pretty amazing experience!

This was harder than I expected... My solo bike trip into the Swedish wilderness
มุมมอง 28K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
I went on a 3 day bikepacking trip in Sweden, after not really cycling for years. It definitely kicked my butt, but I'm already training for our next bikepacking trip! Even though I didn't get very far, I had a great time just enjoying the outdoors, cycling in the Swedish countryside and camping along the way. ★The CBD oil I use: bit.ly/PremiumJaneCBDoil Use Code "LIVING" for 25% off. Starting a permaculture garden at my Nordic cottage
มุมมอง 7425 หลายเดือนก่อน
This spring I started my first permaculture garden! We've already planted fruit trees - figs, cherries, apples and plums, but for the past few months I've gone all out, building 13 garden beds, planting an entire food forest and sowing 20 types of plants. You know what they say, start out small 😅 It's been a ton of hard work, but I've really enjoyed the process, and I can't wait to see where we...
I moved into a cabin in Norway for the winter
มุมมอง 1.9K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
This winter Lukas, Pepsi and I moved into a Norwegian cabin in a tiny village called Eikesdal, surrounded by the Romsdalsalpene range. It was our first winter in Norway and honestly a dream come true to live in a little cabin in this gorgeous snowy landscape. I hope you enjoy the coziness of the wintry Norwegian mountains! ★Watch my previous video here: th-cam.com/video/a4Rhz5AECvU/w-d-xo.html ...

It's rare that I'm here at our cottage alone, but when I am, I love having a slow morning with simple, pretty boring tasks. I spent a blissful 5 days in the wild of the lakes district, in England. It was stunningly beautiful and such a peaceful trip. This is my first time trying this style of video, but it's a style that I watch regularly because I love the simplicity of nature, and watching videos that allow me to feel like I'm there, in the mountains, or on the trail. This was beautiful. How lucky are you to be experiencing camping in Norway! Please give the details of your shoes. They look comfortable for walking.
"During the period from April 1 to August 20, a dog must be kept on a leash or securely fenced or confined, so that it cannot chase or harm livestock, domestic reindeer or wild animals and their nests, dens or lairs."
Thankfully Pepsi is fully trained by audio cues only. We have never used a leash, and he's not trained with one. He's my service dog, and as long as you have full and total recall of your dog, the leash is not a requirement for service dogs
@@simplytarah Ared you blind or handicapped? Is the dog a seritified service dog? If any dog losing their focus and chase/harm lifestock, the farmer is allowed to take the dog down in Norway for self defence for protecting their lifestock.
Dont forget property taxes etc.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful places. ❤
Thank you for watching my videos 🥰 I'm happy to share!
I loved the name of your pet "Pepsi" and currently I have the same thought as you: "find a place" where I can enjoy everything that nature has to offer.😃
Thank you 🥰 Pepsi already had his name when I adopted him, but I think it suits him perfectly! And I completely understand why you want to find your own place to get away in nature!
Fantastic! You have done a great job of showing off the winter majesty of those mountains with the arial shots. Thanks for sharing.
so cool! we have to visit. Great capture of the northern lights.
Thanks Seba! We'd love for you two to visit 😍

Thank you 💖 that hike to boyabreen was incredible
Firstly. that water definitely does not need to be filtered or boiled!. But I love your films and what thoughts you have about this journey
OMG! #visitnorge #visitnorway #theperfectlife
Thank you 🥰 In many places, we might not always filter, but we've noticed that the lakes definitely need filtering. Glacier water in Norway, especially, is quite cloudy and full of debris. There's also a ton of sheep in the mountains, and the bacterial runoff from their poop is definitely a thing!
Ok, I'm a bit high right now, but your beautiful being and your great insights about life, nature and Norway make me love the nature here where I live intensely. Thanks to you so much. #sameboat
After looking a bit at production with clips and sound, I want to be quick in here and give you 1st advice. Don't cut film with sound in the middle of a conversation, and number 2, why don't you stay in Norway, I love people like you here in Norway.
I REALY love your work! tnx
To be fair, this video was made 3 years ago, and I like to think that my editing has improved since then. At the very least, I now spend several hours on each video, audio editing, so I hope there's been some improvement 😅 But to answer your question - I can spend 6 months a year in Norway as a Canadian citizen. Immigrating is so difficult, so I don't plan on moving there, but I'm happy to go back and forth between Denmark and Norway ☺️
Also, thank you!
this was so lovely- the wild blueberries, the northern lights...ah bliss!
So happy to hear it 😍 all of these reasons are why I love Norway!
This video was so relaxing. When I can’t get out into nature myself, I feel calmed watching you enjoy it.
I'm really happy to hear that 💖 and I hope you do get the chance to go out into nature 😊
It's nice to see you so happy Tarah. You're living your dream and it looks like you definitely found your soulmate. Good for you! So happy to see Pepsi too!
Thank you so much 🥰 I feel very lucky to be living this life here, especially with Lukas and Pepsi!
Thank you for the great video! It's good to see you and your family. How old is Pepsi now?
You're very welcome! I love making these videos, so it's always a pleasure 🥰 Pepsi is turning 14 in 10 days! He's been with me through it all 😍
Nice that I recently found you, you inspire me enormously! Relax without a large capital and enjoy the peace and nature to the fullest! We also go with our caravan and two shepherds from the shelter from Spain far from the hustle and bustle and smelly city! But the system is calling us back! I can't work from home Astrid does to some extent, luckily it's easier for me to take time off again. Good to see that you have a warm heart for Sea Shepherd! Wonderful to see how you live life together and follow your heart, no amount of money can match that!!!
I'm so happy to hear this 😍 I completely understand that - we're lucky in that we both work remotely, but even being able to get out for a couple of weeks at a time is really nice! I bet nature in Spain is incredible as well and I hope you both get to spend more time in your camper 😊 Also yes, both Lukas and I have worked with Sea Shepherd for many years now!
When I was a child of 7 to 12 years old, we went to pick blueberries in the forest near our home every year at the end of June. We sold them in a local shop for about 35 francs per kilo. Now this would be less than one Euro (1 Euro = 40.3399 BEF) per kilo. This was about 60 years ago. We had to pick the berries by hand, so the tool you use would have been a welcome help. The little money we earned from this was for the funfair that always took place in our village (somewhere in Flanders) on the first Sunday in July. It was actually hard work for us as children, but, after all, I would never have wanted it any other way.
I’m curious…as you have Pepsi with you…do you have a permit to live in Norway or are you just staying there for a few months of the year?
So, we own a cottage in Denmark and live here about 8 months a year. From there, we travel a few months a year in our camper, driving up, and during the winters, we've rented cabins. But we actually just purchased a cabin in Norway, so we may stay there up to 6 months a year now 😍 I'm Canadian with permanent residency in Denmark, but legally I'm allowed to stay 6 months in Norway each year, based on my citizenship.
@@simplytarah Fantastic, I hope to see a bit of Denmark on my trip!
What advice can you give for rest stops please? ( I survive on CBD too as I have Lyme Disease🙏)
@@cindynewby149 well, there's a map publicly available showing the vast majority of rest stops in Norway. I started by copying that, and originally I sat at my home computer, and viewed every rest stop on Google street view, and we came up with a rating system for each stop based on our preferences. Then, over 4 years of travel, we've confirmed the ratings in person and added many new stops that we've found. That's where my autism shines 😅 because I found the whole process exciting and we now have a very thorough map of rest stops. But the biggest piece of advice I can give is that if you use an app like park4night, please be discerning. So many of the stops on that app are not places where you can actually park, and there's a huge problem with tourists parking on private property, next to someone's home or cabin, or blocking private roadways. Be considerate and when in doubt, ask if you're allowed to park whenever you are. Locals will always be super helpful and will appreciate your being considerate
I think I will have to return to Norway and do a tour in my campervan.❤
@@cindynewby149 it's absolutely worth it, just note that it's incredibly busy from June through August, and sometimes even into September now. In the summer months, you might be battling with 20+ other campers for the same spot, so that's why we never visit in the summer. People are generally packed in like sardines. The weather is much more unpredictable in the spring and autumn, so if you do visit then, you'll need lots of time to be able to follow the good weather around
Yes the mosquitos are a drag. You can higher the saddle a bit and also forward.
@@johanf9279 I wish I could, but my bike frame is a tad too small, and if doesn't allow me to sit farther forward. It's just my specific frame that's built a little differently
It's not so bad in Canada either and as bautiful as Norway in many ways too :) Eivind from Norway!
Oh, Canada is gorgeous! It's just not accessible to someone like me who doesn't drive a car, In Norway, I can get out to even remote places by public transit, where as you have to drive a car in Canada to get anywhere!
Wow! That place is SO MAGICAL!!! ❤
@@1jillianrose it was so nice to stay there! Eikesdal really is beautiful 😍
I was wondering why I haven't been seeing any content from you in a couple of years in my subscriptions feed and started wondering if you were still present on YT or social media. Then I searched "fruity below thirty" on YT but there was nothing. Then I went on to Google, still nothing. Then I tried "thirty bellow fruity", "twenty bellow fruity", "fruity below twenty" and finally I remembered it was "40 below fruity". From your last video on that channel, I found a link to this one. So glad I found it, I'm gonna binge watch your new videos tonight to keep up with the good content.
I'm sorry that you had to search all of those names to find it 🙈 in hindsight it was such an obscure name, but it's based off of how we say temperatures in Canada. Anything below zero degrees is said "five below", "twenty below", and I had no idea that this wasn't the same outside of Canada 😅 I thought it was a such a clever name at the time haha. 40 below fruity essentially meant eating fruit while living in the freezing cold. Anyways, I felt like I needed a fresh start a few years ago, so I started this channel 🥰 but maybe I should make an update on my old channel to share where I've been! Thank you for sticking around 💖 I really appreciate your support ☺️
👍❤
Wow what a journey of adventure nice one
Thank you 😊
I am glad you enjoyed your trip! And who cares how fast or how much you cycle in a day? Everybody has their own pace, this is not a competition. Maybe a (boomer?) idea for your next adventure: I ALWAYS bring a good old map on paper on my trips and hardly ever navigate using electronic devices, precisely because I know from experience that those can fail. Paper maps make you so much more independent.
That's what I was thinking! Ultimately, no one is having this experience aside from me, so why not make it enjoyable for myself? I wish I could navigate with a paper map, but one of the issues I deal with, being autistic, is that my sense of direction is non existent. The only thing I could use a paper map for is as shade from the sun 😂
@@simplytarah Haha, I see! Well, in that case, bring ME next time and I'll bring and read the map 😉

Hi, i am watching from india. Very candid about your experience. It was refreshing. Keeping camera at a place, recording and then coming back to collect is a pain. Isn't it?😊

Где такая красота?
It's in Eikesdal, Norway
i also find pressure to hit these high numbers a day but honestly i end up missing out on so much that is around me and am really learning to slow down and take it all in
I really felt the same way - It's the same when I go on hiking trips. I'd way rather slow down and enjoy the experience instead of trying to rush through it
What do you think about when you ride a bike?
Honestly, because I have ADHD, I expected to be bored, but I wasn't at all. Of course, I was filming, so there's a lot of thought put into what I might film, what shots I can get, assessing my surroundings...etc. I was occupied with where I could possibly charge my phone, what meals I was going to have, and just enjoying the environment around me. I guess that might work in my favour, because my thoughts bounce around so continuously that my mind is never a boring place 😅 But with cycling in general, you're so focused on navigating, and being in control of the bike, as well as the terrain, that it's easy to be engaged.
Can u bikepacking with me @@simplytarah
@@Hdcgg334 I prefer to go solo or with my hubby 😊
Until 2.40 minutes, wonderfull, but because of that Coke.... bye bye, I don't look foward...
I don't drink soda, but considering that Lukas had to drive 16 hours in two days on icy roads during winter, I'm not about to judge him. He needed sugary fuel to keep him awake an alert, and if that means that he's happy and we arrive safely, I don't think you or anyone else is in a place to judge either.

No problem at all and thanks your kind words 😊 Also, I can't wait to go back to Finland, it's beautiful there!
Nice video! Excellent approach and great attitude about problems you encountered. You can usually tell what's uphill vs downhill on a map by which way the creeks and/or topo lines are gathering, (Vs point downhill) but the map wasn't showing any. lol.
Thank you 😊 I was hoping there would be some way to tell the direction of the switchbacks, but it was fun anyways!
By "unexpected twists and turns" do you mean narcotic effects of weed oil or what happens during the day in general?
I meant, the unexpected twists and turns, as in things that don't go according to plan. I'm autistic, so a change of plans, or last minute, unexpected things popping up can cause me a huge amount of distress. CBD doesn't have THC, so it's just very soothing and helps me deal with those kind of situations.
@@simplytarah Cool, I was wondering. Thanks for reply.
