I lost a friend and his family back in 2001 or so. Look them up and do a video. They were the gray family flying from Dallas to Missouri I believe.

The Polk County Sheriff's office said 45-year-old Ronald Bramlage was piloting the aircraft headed from the Bahamas to Junction City, Kan.

Turbo prop planes like the PC12 are highly capable, but at the typical mid 20s altitudes they're not outflying all critical WX by a long shot. In weather systems like that it's very important to use all available tools; the routing advice ATC offered was the lifeline he didn't take as they see real-time WX on their screens.

Sad , It brings to memory JFK Jr. with his wife and sister in law, darkness falls and he didn't understood instruments, only visual flying, and all perished.

A cautionary tale to all those potential PC-12 buyers who think they do NOT need a professional (qualified) full time pilot who most likely would have kept him out of that cell.

Me and my broke ass blue collar family never fell from the sky while traveling in my dad's old beat up 73 chevy truck to go on family trips.

If you haven’t got an instrument rating you have no business being in IMC, let alone with your family on board in icing conditions.

I'm not a pilot but if i were one, I'd never fly my family solo. I mean, what if i have a heart attack or something? At the least, I'd hire a qualified co-pilot.

Ron should have bought a minivan and drove his family to the Bahamas instead ...

The weather will kill you quicker than your own incompetence.
