BTW the process for removal of the fog lens ring is to loosen the tension spring (bottom center of the housing ) with a flat blade screwdriver. It allows the the ring to come off w/o force.
You sir are a true professional... well thought out and top notch instructional video. I have a 74 914 and have wanted to at minimum upgrade the head and fogs... but forgive me... im a bit of a retro purist and the "look" of LED's behind old school lenses just is a turn off UNLESS... you have an EV conversion 914 in which case the whole system youve shown is spot on... (again.. just my opinion.) Still love your style and instructional video.
Thank you! If you get the glass hella lens headlights, I think you can even get an incandescent color temp. I highly recommend the brake light upgrade from a visibility standpoint!
It appears that you selected the white LED modules for the rear red tail lights. They appear orange when lit in the video. Will the red LED look more red ( better)? I agree with the front lights being the white chips!
While I love the GoPro, it really does poor in low light and I’m guessing causes what you see. In person, they’re very “true” red, but I don’t think you could go wrong either way with white/red. I will say on our last drive (3x 914s), the difference in stock and LED is unbelievable!
An easy trick for the front and rear bumpers is to replace the 4 long bumper bolts with 4 studs screwed into the bumpers. Use the same size studs as used to hold the exhaust headers to the cylinder heads. It makes r&r of the bumpers an essy one person job.
Thanks! You’re right, zipping the wheel off would have been super easy. I just updated the description with additional bulb links. They’re the “BA7S” in the Amazon links.
Great vid - Thanks! Question: At 20:55 you describe the plug and play LED signal relay change. Then at 21.25 there's an additional different segment describing cutting and splicing some wiring. Is this also necessary for the plug and play LED signal relay change?
Actually it’s not! The splicing is only required for being able to turn on the fog lights w/o the low beams on too. The relay is a plug and play for the LED swap.
@@barefootgaragejax9252 Thanks! Please keep up the 914 videos. I'd actually have a couple requests for future vids: 1 - A reality video of a dwell/timing/points project on a 914 engine in the car, not on a stand (which is the way all the timing videos I've found present this). It is very different leaning over the engine and working that way.
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!!!
The best quote I’ve seen said “ when cars were invented, horses didn’t go extinct, they just transitioned to a leisure activity” I suspect the same will happen with fossil fuel cars. Till then- gasoline forever!
Those fog light clips are lethal! I ended up with one stuck in the ceiling… I put on eye pro after that one lol
Glad you caught that! They’re a bit of a pain

Good to know! I have another set apart now
Thanks for a great video! Did you look at changing the bulbs behind the heater controls on the dash?
Actually, no that’s not one we looked at. Mine has never lit up, so I need to check into it!

surprised the video didn't include a struggle to get the HL trim rings off? They are typically rusted in place &/or stripped
We were lucky! I’ve done a few and thankfully none were too badly corroded

Cool tip! I’m 100% doing this on the next bumper I have off. I’ve done this job solo- it’s isn’t fun!
Which model of the headlights from Vintage Car LEDs did you use? They have several listed
They are the VC3500, with the Hella lenses
HI Jax , where can i purchase the splitter blue connector (1 female - 2 male ) @ min 21:42 ? thanks in advance
It’s homemade. Just two short pieces of wire and 3 connectors.
Nice and helpfull video txs. Its helps to remove the steering wheel ( 1 minute job) before removing the clocks
BTW, do you have a link for the LED bulbs for the dashboard lights? Can,t find them on the provided links (?) Txs!
