Going Beyond Goals
Setting goals is well know as a habit of successful people. But we've noticed that we aren't always consistent with staying focused and applying ourselves to the goals. Setting the goal is easy. Following through is where it can get difficult.
Could there be a way of relating to our goals differently that can provide greater success with less stress along the way?
We've found that examining the motivation behind our goals can help us stay on track with goals and in a direction that is easier to follow through with.
At least for us, when we've set a goal in the past motivated by how we think achieving that goal will benefit us, kind of like "When I have this I'll be happier, or richer, or more fulfilled", we'd pursue that to get someplace different in the future. It always had us looking into the future for a "better life".
But sometimes we'd find ourselves pursuing a vision or goal that wasn't so much about what we'd get from it, but for the good feeling we had as we pursued it. With these, we easily stayed in the moment by following the feeling and the goal was achieved more easily.
Using my feelings as a guide, you might say I don't set goals anymore. Rather, I settle or relax into life and let it bring what it brings. And what I resonate with, I give permission. I say "yes" and go on about my life following this feeling of "yes". My activities are no longer agenda driven in an attempt to get something. Instead it's like I'm pulled forward by the vision that I resonate with.
Like the saying that goes "Fear drives us forward until vision pulls us forward."
With this approach, the vision or goal that is pulling us is more like a direction to follow than a destination to reach. With this, if something comes up along the way, I'm open to consider that change of course because it's the feeling I'm following and not a destination I feel I have to get to.
In the past, I could be so set on the destination I had in my mind that I wouldn't notice a nudge or a feeling from my inner wisdom to adjust or change my course. All I was looking at was the destination, the goal.
You could say I'm letting life lead me now instead of my telling life how I want it to be. This has taken the old habit of setting goals, creating steps and working at it into an all new reality.
It isn't' like I don't see a sequence of steps to follow, for instance getting in the car to drive to Costco. But I relate to the process very differently now. It's more tuning into my inner wisdom and giving permission to what life brings that prompts the steps to take.
In a way, this is like letting the immense organizing power of nature have a lead role in my life. Rather than feeling like it's all on me to figure out what to do and how to make my life work well, it's opening to the access we all have to this intelligence and organizing power within us.
And, looking back on our lives, it looks like the greatest suffering we've experienced came from resisting the promptings from our wisdom within. Things like, "Well, I knew better, but it seemed like a good idea at the time." We weren't willing to say "yes" to what we knew, but went with what seemed like a good idea.
As we relax more into life, we see that life is always prompting us. And prompting us in the direction of growing and expanding in ways that bring such joy and fulfillment.

Achieving Goals

We all set our sights on achieving things from time to time. Whether it's to change our diet and lifestyle or lose some weight or get a new job, it often starts with setting a goal. And there are practical things about setting goals that can help us achieve them. Things like choose the right goal, break your goal into small steps and be consistent with taking action. The Magic of You

Connie just put together a video course called "The Magic of You" that she's offering through a bundle with Chef AJ and Mellissa Maris. It comes out March 10th. What she talks about is how what we really are, down deep, is magic, and the expression of that magic is why we're here. We're here to discover the magic that we are and share it with the world. That's kind of a big order. So, how do we...
Adapting Recipes

One difficulty people come up against when they want to switch to a WFPB SOS-free way of eating is letting go of some of their favourite recipes. We get kind of attached to our favourite foods but they often have processed ingredients and salt, oil and sugar. Is there any way that we can "have our cake and eat it too?" Can we adapt our recipes to give us a similar dish made with whole plant foo...
Finding Freedom From Poor Food Habits

Where Are the Nutrients?
มุมมอง 68หลายเดือนก่อน
We've been saying it for years, decades really: the body is designed to heal and be healthy. Encoded in the DNA of every cell is that blueprint for healthy functioning. But to build out what's on the blueprint in our cells, we need to give them proper materials. And those materials come from what we eat. Those materials are what we call nutrients. So, if nutrient are what build a healthy body, ...
The Possibility of LIfe

We've been asking ourselves lately, "What is the possibility that this life holds?" And, "How can we live more from this possibility?" Looking back, we see that even when we met the goals we had set, ther...
Symptoms-Good News or Bad News?
มุมมอง 506หลายเดือนก่อน
When we have a symptom, it is good news or bad news? As inconvenient as coming down with a cold is or receiving an unfavourable diagnosis, symptoms are our body's way of getting our attention, telling us something is going out of balance. We see symptoms as good news because they're like an early warning system that something is getting out of balance. Rather than being there just to create dis...
Pursuing Happiness

Happiness. It's surprising how powerful a driver pursuing happiness is. When we're pursuing the food we eat or almost any other activity, embedded in it is the idea that we'll feel better or happier as a result. When it comes to food and many other things we do, the "happiness" the experience brings is the result of getting a little bit of dopamine. We've talked about the pleasure trap before a...

When people consider switching to a plant-based diet, there can be questions about where they will get the nutrients that they were getting in their meat-based diet. Fortunately it's quite simple. One of my design profs, all those many years ago, told me that it was just as important to learn what doesn't work as what does work! That was such a new concept for me and has guided me in so many areas of my life ever since. It allows me to accept both aspects equally without judging myself.

When you first explained this to me I was resistant because in a confusing way it felt SO good to get angry. At those moments I definitely didn’t want to feel “the magic”. I was actually comforted by feeling that red hot anger. To allow myself to feel any magic at those moments felt like a betrayal to who I thought I was. It was actually scary to allow that to drop away and tap into this calm that is always here. But now Im starting to experience what youre teaching. And it feels SO much better. Thank you two so much!

Hello, Connie & Bill, What worked for me was feeling disgusted with myself, especially at the thought: "Am I weaker than these cravings? NO, I’m NOT!" I realized, "Something isn’t working properly." So, I started battling against it, and NOW I’M UNBEATABLE! I began following keto, cutting out ultra-processed foods and sugar, and started eating REAL FOOD - a lot of meat, eggs and healthy fats. No more cravings, overeating, or snacking! I feel happier and healthier than ever. <3 I wish you a happy new year!

I found freedom, when I realized that 30 million starving Africans during the horrible famine in the 1980's would have walked barefoot 100 miles for a sack of rice and lentils, and celebrated the arrival of the food; when I realized that it would be morally objectionable to me, to unhealthily indulge, when 1 in 11 people on Earth lacks food security. When I fall into the delusion that I want some junky treat, I remember how utterly disrespectful it would be to those who are suffering now, and those who suffered before me, to indulge. To intentionally make myself fat and sick is a disrespect to those around me who may one day need me to be strong for them, to those who fought for my freedoms and had to do without, and to the future generations who would ultimately bear the burden, both psychologically and financially, of my self-indulgences. That's my "why?"

Through your coaching I’ve noticed that when I have an “I thought” I don’t get as committed to it as in the past. Now it’s a little more like it’s happening to a character in a book I’m reading- I’m still invested but I can see there’s a separation…. If that makes any sense. It’s not perfect but gosh any improvement feels good! This was like being a fly on your wall😊😊

Twenty-five years ago, I was a junk-food addict. I can still remember my breakfast of choice (yikes) - 5 sausage egg and cheese burritos and a super-size diet coke from McDonald's. So, I find it almost unbelievable that I've now gotten myself to the point, where I can hit that "holy Toledo!" part of my brain with lentils and raw veggies. The power of neuroplasticity is both metaphorically and quite literally mind-bending. A side note - Augason Farms dried vegetables ground in my spice grinder, are absolutely indispensable when it comes to seasoning my food. I especially love their dehydrated onion, bell peppers, tomato powder, carrots, and celery.

Great video Connie and Bill🙂. I wonder why when I’m “in it” it feels so much easier to keep shaking the snow globe than to just set it down. Deep inside I can feel my body wants to let it settle but my mind is wanting to create a serious blizzard outta this snow globe. Almost like I’m concerned that once the snow settles and I’m truly with myself in the moment Im not going to see a cute little cottage in the globe but a run down old shack lol. If I get quite I’m not going to be proud of what I see. If that makes sense.

Hello, Mr & Mrs Kramer I am Lubabalo. You have helped me with "Eating with Presence" from few years ago with Fin also on the call, he made a joke saying he'd practice Eating with Presence by chewing a carrot till it is watery in his mouth. But the instructions back then were: 1) Tasting the food in your mouth and chew till watery before swallowing 2) Feel the food in your chest 3) Check in with the body, like feel the love of the food from your body - which is now to check or feel how the body receives the food. I've been eating with presence ever since you taught taught us 'how' 2 years back. But I will use the updated technique which only omits (feeling of the food in your chest). I've been strictly on a vegetarian diet for more than a month now - since it helps with my practices as well. Thank you, I have been waiting to be taught this wisdom once again.

If it has an ingredient list longer than a short handful of items, it's probably an ultraprocessed food! And it's even worse than just processed ingredients like sugar, flour, or oil. Ultraprocessed foods are made from chemically adulterated sugars and fats, protein isolates, emulsifiers, artificial flavors, MSG, salts, artificial colors, moisturizers, texturizers, preservatives, and as a result of the mechanical and chemical processes to create them they are usually contaminated with plastic and metal residues including aluminum, lead, BPA, mercury, and various other neurotoxic and endocrine disrupting substances. If you made cake at home from processed ingredients like sugar and flour, your body would handle it pretty well, but the ultraprocessed cake with all it's industrial additives and chemically altered macronutrients (high fructose corn syrup, interesterified/brominated/hydrogenated oils, isolated proteins, wreaks absolute havoc with the human body, the microbiome, and the brain.
