I believe the true Church does fine without the Westminster Confession of faith (Calvinism) and would be better off. And they did from the first century Church to 500 years ago. Rather it makes the Gospel look complicated and dreadful to many, it should be as Gospel implied "Good News. You don't see the love of God in it. 2 Timothy 3:5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

In my experience, the "free will" people I have met claim that faith is not a work like a sacrement. They echo Flowers, Winger, Geisler, Brown. So they pass saving faith off as something other than emanating from one's mind or emotion. But the excuse doesn't really obtain if the thoughts amd exercise of faith do come from oneself before regeneration. If a man thinks, it is his mind thinking, not some disembodied essence.

I love Gerstner and Sproul but if you want to understand the Book of Concord and Lutheranism go to a Lutheran. Gerstner framed this polemic contra Lutheranism from a very Reformed perspective that doesn't due the Lutheran position justice. At all. I say this as a confessionally Reformed Christian for 20+ years.

Where does Catholicism and the council of Trent says that " works through faith are the grounds for our justification?" Session 6 of the council of Trent , dealing with justification, says nothing of the sort. According to Trent, " nothing , not faith or works, merit the initial grace of justification " and " as the apostle Paul's says, of it is by grace, then it is no longer by works, for it grace is by works, then it is no longer grace." Trent also says that there are 4 causes of our justification. 1) the final cause is of our justification is for the glory of God. 2) the efficient cause of our justification ( what causes grace to effect us) is the Love of God. 3) the meritorious cause of our justification is the sacrifice of Christ on the wood of the cross. 4) the instrumental cause of our justification is faith full filled in the sacrament of faith, baptism". People , read Trent for yourself and you will see that too many reformed teachers either don't understand nd Catholicism, or they plain lie about it. The grounds of our justification is our union with Christ, where the Spirit of Christ, the Love of Christ, is poured out into our hearts. This union with Christ in our hearts is what justifies us, the westminster confession clearly rejects this.

Dr Gerstner is my favorite theologian for a variety of reasons including the fact he has an infectious enthusiasm in all his lectures - this particular one is a magnificent explanation of the Doctrine of Revelation

Church imperfections are expected to exist for we are just imperfect people but let not these imperfections discouraged us but focus on the perfections of our Lord who heads the church.

The doctrine of Providence is very difficult to understand but Dr Gerstner does a superb job of explaining it

I love hearing him dedicate this to RC Sproul! I know of this man of God only through finding RC Sproul on the Internet as I was being shown biblical truth we call Reformed! Thank God for leading me into Salvation

Towards the end of this lecture opened my eyes to the doctrine of election so distinctly and in a way that can’t be refuted. No one can argue it if you revere scripture as infallible. Which it is.
