An imagining of a trip from Aberavon (Seaside) Station near Port Talbot to Treherbert at the head of the Rhondda Valley with an empty coal train. As usual with my videos, the signalling mis-behaves here and there. And a lot of artistic licence is involved. But the details of the route were gleaned from studying the 25 inch 1892-1914 Ordnance Survey map. And from old photographs. I haven't used ...

A busy evening at Neath
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
There is plenty of action at Neath. Starting with a goods train departing Neath (general) for Aberdare via the Vale of Neath line. We then see Neath junction with the South Wales mainline branching to the left, and the Vale of Neath line off to the right. Pannier tank 7726, passes 4088 Dartmouth Castle as it crosses the Neath Canal on the approach to the station. Finally over at Neath (riversid...

A full length run along my Train Simulator route "The Vale of Neath Railway" from Pontypool Road as far as Glynneath. As usual, the camera work is a bit all over the place, and some signals failed to show correctly, but I hope you enjoy watching it. Note that my route is based on the 1892 - 1914 25" OS Map, so a lot of the scenery is all over the place historically, and trying to drive the trai...

A video showing some of the stations along the Vale of Neath Railway for Train Simulator Classic. Currently I have modelled Pontypool Rd to Glynneath, but hope to extend all the way to Neath eventually. There's a few stutters, and the speeds are a little fast here and there, but this is due to my ageing editing software. If you're a Train Simulator user, and you'd like the route it's available ...

The route is still under construction, Although Phase 1 from Pontypool Rd to Quakers Yard has ...

I've been trying to install this route but I'm having trouble with the Wotawallys Bits requirements as the site is password protected.
@MrTobysDad There has been problems at the developers apparently? They are (possibly now) available here: web.archive.org/web/20240413224744/www.wotawallysbits.net/scenery-items.html Press the download symbol under the picture on the left on that web page. Or download a link here www.mediafire.com/file/lga8wie35o0smz2/Wotawally_Scenery_set-Up.zip/file
Travelled from Cardiff (Heath Halt) to 3 Cocks Junction in 1961 on this line, for the Welsh Jamboree (Boy Scouts) at Gwernyfed Park. I was 13 but I remember so well going up the incline past the reservoirs.
Recon you can do the old newport to brecon branch? Or at least Machen to bedwas?
Seriously considering going south from Dowlais through Fochriw and onwards. Who knows may even make it to Newport!
@@TheOpenBoatDAFFODIL how do you do these videos?
@JacJones-e4h A lot of time, patience, research, a fair bit of money over time. This video on TH-cam may show you some of the basics. Plenty more route building tutorials on there. th-cam.com/video/gHloeRJqglE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=43DTEago-rwIvCo5
Thank you so much for this Ben. I'm trying to get this to work for my Grandfather to drive but unfortunately the station buildings do not show up for me at all. I believe I have all of the requirements (after extensive searching), but can't find these last few things. It's amazing to see this and incredible the amount of work that's gone into it.
I've solved this for you. Download this file www.mediafire.com/file/8tkoy7nsxnngg5a/APStation.zip/file . Extract the contents 'APStation' and drag it into the following location: Railworks/Assets/RSC overwrite if prompted. That should work? Let me know.
@@TheOpenBoatDAFFODIL Thank you so, so much. That's mostly fixed everything, missing some random stuff but nothing important so I've just got to say thank you so miuch, and Merry Christmas if you celebrate it!
All fixed now! Got all the scenery and it's incredible to see it so greatly done, so thank you for this. Do you have a donation page just as a little thanks?
@LCSTrains thanks for the offer of a donation. But I don't do it for money, just for the enjoyment of making them. You could subscribe to my channel? That helps. Happy Christmas 😁

Another great simulation Ben
Excellent, very clever. Maesteg Castle Street as I remember it.👍
Masterful Ben. Now onwards to Tondu , scene of many childhood memories!
Environment rich modelling - superb 😊
Nice one Ben, thanks.
Magnificent.

This is beautiful.
Fantastic Route,But I Think Somethings Wrong? I Have All The Required Assets Yet Im Still Seeing Milk Bottles Everywhere?
Sorry to hear this. Can you give me some EXACT locations of some milk bottles, and I'll try and identify what may be missing??
As a former resident of Pontycymer, I would love to see this come to fruition, but think that the situation is being looked at through rose tinted glasses.
this looks like a fantastic route, great job 👍
Fantastic as usual Ben. I did notice one issue - at the east end of Cymmer Afan there is a bridge structure lying across the Abergwynfi tracks. You can close you're eyes and bravely drive through it though.... 🙂
@@kevinroberts9999 I'll check that out cheers 👍
Last year I cycled from Pontypridd to Margam via Glynccorrwg then on the old South Wales Mineral line to Cymmer followed by the R&SB line to Port Talbot. The gradients on these lines are brutal. I would love to have ridden behind the driver on a DMU. Brilliant simulation, but the 56xx was travelling too fast for the gradients. Well done!
@roberthope7787 Yes, I know I was travelling too fast. But it was hard to drive accurately, whilst also trying to record it. There are quite a few errors. But it gives the flavour....
You did a brilliant job which gave a real flavour for the line. I’m just about old enough to remember a DMU crossing the A48 in Port Talbot, and also the crash near Pontrhyddfen in (I think ) 1960 which resulted in some fatalities. You’ve done a brilliant job.
@@roberthope7787That crossing on the A48 in P Talbot was a pain in the neck, thank goodness for the M4
Another cracking video Ben. Thank you so much for sharing this. Another line I would have liked to have traveled on - at least I can picture some of it, thanks to you & your excellent video :)
That's fantastic, how did you do that!!
@gwynrandall7255 A lot of patience, research, and time!
Fantastic attention to detail on this, really impressive and thanks for sharing this. Had me double checking my work phone for email at 7:22, heard an outlook noise. No email all is good lol. 👍
Myself and fellow members of South Wales Classic Car Club, recently visited the remains of Cymer Afan Station for a coffee stop on a club run, and it was great to see what is left of the old Afan valley railways.
Abbsolutely brilliant, thank you.
Excellent video.Just a minor detail- a 56xx with such a train, even of empties would be running at less than half that speed up them grades !
@peterdunning2952 yes I know. But it was hard to drive accurately, whilst also trying to record it. There are quite a few errors. But it gives the flavour....
Would be a bit dull at 15mph. Better to believe the crew were in a hurry for shift ending.
Good effort Ben, Treherbert hasn't changed a great deal. Now to watch it again with a map.
Superb !
Excellent work! So useful to place where the railway was.
Another nice trip along a route I now regularly walk.
Ben just one word FAB
Wonderful, takes me back sixty years. I travelled over the line many times, steam and DMU. Well done Ben.
Respect for the historical research to build this, Ben. Soo many different lines in what must've been coal central. Fantastic to have an important piece of history replicated.
Cheers for this Ben, it's a great piece of work. Being a recently retired train driver and having cycled and walked these lines I'd like to give this a go on Train Sim. I'm quite a new user of TS so expect there are many assets I won't have or will struggle to get to get it to run.
@SomeWelshBloke yes sadly the assets required is quite a long list. I'll be updating this post with a download link in the next day or so.
Brilliant, passes the back of my house 🙂
Very nice to watch
Brilliant! Apart from the class 37.
Well done very accurate.

On every trip from Pyle to Porthcawl, the engine had to be turned on Tondu Depot turntable to ensure equal wear on the coupled-wheelbase, such was the curvature of the bends..

Absolutely fantastic thank you I hope that you could recreate Brecon to neath route as I used to live adjacent to the track near dainter place just up from ely place goods yard and footage of the railway there is rare once again thanks
Hi Ben. Sorry to reach put on TH-cam. But do you have any books or research material you'd recommend when it comes to the old stations of Neath? I'm particularly interested the locations and old photos. But I've found it difficult thus far. Kind regards, Alun.
@alunrhydderch1786 Hi there. I didn't manage to get any books on the Neath area I'm afraid. Most of the research I did on the area was online by trawling through images on Google, or doing searches on various railway Facebook groups. It's amazing how much stuff is out there. I can recommend the National Library of Scotlands map archive though. maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=13.8&lat=51.66959&lon=-3.80839&layers=168&b=1&o=100
