1969 Camaro Project - Part 17 - Repaint Dash, Firewall Pad, and McLeod Hydraulic Clutch!
The dash, rear dash and side panels needed some fresh paint. Gotta make it nice before installing the interior at some point. Even though the firewall is coated with Lizard Skin, I decided to add the factory firewall pad as well. It will need to be custom cut due to the taller transmission tunnel. Since the pad is going in, let’s get started with the McLeod Hydraulic clutch kit as well.

1969 Camaro Project - Part 16 - Front End Assembly!
มุมมอง 510หลายเดือนก่อน
The front end came together nicely. I was really excited to get the RS hideaway lamps installed. Still have an issue with a fender droop on the driver side that I need to fix. So much left to do but at least it’s starting to look like a car now.

It’s time to start putting the exterior of the car together. Since I don’t have an engine yet, let’s start with the rear. In went the spoiler, trunk weatherstripping, bumper, tail lights, reverse lights, and some minor modifications.

Getting the front sheet metal gaps just right. Then masking up the fenders and doors to paint on the hockey stripes. I didn’t feel 100% safe with just the nutserts for the RideTech 4 Link, so I had the body shop weld in the 4 tabs to the frame. The car is slowly coming together!

Finally getting things installed on the Camaro. I knew there was going to be some struggle with an older car and aftermarket parts, but I didn’t know it was going to be this bad 😳 Ridetech 4 Link is now installed and the Currie 9 inch is bolted in place. Put in the subframe which had the Ridetech coilover and Tru Turn kit already installed on it. Then was able to bolt up the Ridetech subframe c...

1969 Camaro Project - Part 7 - Wood Body Cart
มุมมอง 995ปีที่แล้ว
Decided to go the more cost effective way and make my own body cart out of wood for about $150. A few 4x4’s, some Harbor Freight 6” Casters, and some miscellaneous hardware. This is a temporary solution to get my 1969 Camaro shell from the body shop, onto a trailer, and back to my place after it’s done being painted. These dimensions allow it to go up a ramp on a U-Hail trailer. It will sit jus...
1969 Camaro Project - Part 6 - Almost Ready For Paint!

It’s been a longer process than anticipated for the body work, but well worth the wait. The Bowler transmission tunnel is in, random holes in the body filled, panels straightened and aligned, and body gaps getting finished. David and Jerry at Gongora’s Body Shop are doing an amazing job.

th-cam.com/video/he-Arrw71VY/w-d-xo.html
I appreciate the vids, I’ll be starting my build soon and these will be good reference
Good luck on your build. Post up some videos.
This brings back memories when I built my 69 Camaro SS396. You have done a remarkable job. I bought it in 1985 as a daily driver when I was teaching high school. I started a body on restoration in 1988 and had bone cancer in 1991. I survived and finally finished it in 1996. It is Burnished Brown with a black vinyl top and deluxe interior. It scored 996 at the Winter Nationals and Worldwide Camaro/Ecklers in Orlando. I am 76 and still love my car today.
That is an awesome story. I’m glad you kept it all these years and never got rid of it. I can’t wait to drive mine someday.
Wow, that trim black turned out awesome man. Very nice. Car is looking great and you are doing a great job and progressing great too.
@@adamscustomshop Thanks! Definitely a long way to go, but plans keep changing and progressing the more research I do on parts. I’m loving the whole process!
That came out great! Nice job. I’m already Looking forward to your next update.
@@Motown454 thank you! I’m super happy with the SEM paint. It’s so easy to apply.
@ I think there is a boot that goes over that clutch rod.
Loving the informative videos, keep up the good work. I’m in the process of building a 69 Camaro as well and I almost have all the pieces before I can finally send it to a body shop to get all the work done and start putting its all together. You videos will definitely come in handy in the future 👍
Thank you so much Terry for watching. I’m happy that my videos might help you out soon. I will be on the lookout for your videos if you post them. Enjoy the journey 😁
My 1967 Camaro RS has the same upward buggle on the driver side between the fender and front nose header panel. I have no idea how to fix it. Standing by.
😢
👍
Looks awesome man!
Thanks!
What is the color called?
It’s called Infrared
Must be nice to be so close to Classic Industries that you can just drive there...takes days to ship for most of us.
It’s still about an hour drive from me and waiting in line and for them to get the part can take up to another hour. Sure it’s better than shipping, but not as easy as walking into an Oreillys for quart or oil.
Great work !!!
Coming together nicely - go man go! 👍
Looking great man! Yeah, you may need to get a mic for when the phone is on the tripod, kind of hard to hear, but sounds just fine when you are holding the phone. You should get the original assembly manual for the 1969 Camaro, it will help with showing you where all the holes need to go, part numbers for everything, tolerances, wiring diagrams, torques, where sealant goes and what type, and how to assemble everything and all the options. That way you don't have to rely on what people tell you or what you see on other cars because there is no guarantee that they did it correctly in the first place. You can buy a hard copy about anywhere but I recently found a PDF version on Google of the Factory Assembly Instruction Manual, also the Chassis Overhaul Manual, the Fisher Body Service Manual, and the Chassis Service Manual. Great books to have for a reference. Again, that Camaro is looking beautiful!!
I do have the AIM but finding certain instructions can be a pain. But the book has definitely helped out a lot!
Beautiful car Man.... I had a 69 Z-28 for a while, loved the car.... had to sell her though. Don't make that mistake, you'll miss it!
I will never sell it 😎
Keep Grinding
Always 😊
Nice work, real nice car. .. Just a suggestion ... with respect to the seat and other bolt holes in the floor and pans, Golf Tees or a cheap harbor freight rubber plug assortment works very well. .. Keep it up, looking forward to your future posts.
Good tip!
Great job Brother.... Super sweet car. Love the paint!
Thanks 👍
Hi Allen just found your channel. I love the car and the color, do you know the paint code? What car was the color from? Nice job on the Ride. Tech setup
Thanks for watching! The paint code is 3T5 - Infrared (Lexus ls350)
@@allenwoolseyTganks! It looks gorgeous.
All that sanding in the paint booth 😢
With a paint that beautiful, you can't over mask it for anything. Especially when you compare the cost of a few rolls of tape and some plastic to the cost of getting your paint fixed. You did a great job and this car is seriously looking amazing!!!! I love that you are getting your son involved in it too, that will be some great memories for you both. Again, you are doing a great job and the Camaro is looking amazing!!!
@@adamscustomshop thank you for all the kind words 😃 I’m definitely trying to do this the right way, but at the same time, I’m new to building a car from the frame up. I’m loving every minute of it, though!
Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make and post this video. Just finished assembling my ride tech front suspension thanks to your video for additional help!
@@alejandroortiz8941 I’m glad it helped out 😁
The hockey stripes look amazing! My 2 cents- I like Chrome on these cars if they’re balanced out. Door handles, mirrors, marker lights, bumpers and window moldings. Just feels like vintage muscle. If you don’t like them you can paint them black anfterward. Are you going to do wheel and drip rail moldings? How about engine badge and shark gills? Those would be harder to remove and paint.
Thanks for the compliments on the stripes. I like the idea you have of trying chrome first and then if I want, I can just paint them. I’m going to leave the drip rail trim for last to see if I want it. I won’t be doing the wheel trim or gills. Not a fan of that trim.
@@allenwoolsey cool. Did you paint the front grill shroud body color or black?
I painted the outer part of the grille the same as the body color. The center is black.
@@allenwoolsey perfect
Looks grrreat! 👏👏👏
Thank you!!
Man, that is looking awesome! They did a very good job and you are doing a good job too. The satin or matte black trim and everything would look killer against the candy red for sure. That's my vote. lol I am using Cerakote to paint all my bumpers and handles and trim and what-not satin black. If you paint the stuff yourself try to use a 2k product (base with a hardener/activator), preferably with ceramic, if you can. Obviously you are limited to where you are and have but maybe a good engine paint or something if you go rattlecan. It is more expensive, but they do have the 2k paint in rattlecans now that you pop the internal bladder with a stem at the bottom and it should last a day or two, depending on the product, so maybe check that out. Either way, the Camaro is looking amazing and you are doing an awesome job!
@@adamscustomshop thank you! I will definitely look into the 2x rattle cans.
Man that paint is amazing!!!
Thank you 😁
Nice was thinking of going a 6 piston calipers what a budget deal going this way
How difficult was it to remove the bushing shell from the lower control arms on the front? Did they press out or did you have to cut them out?
I had to press them out, but that wasn’t hard at all. Getting the new ones in took more time.
Looks really good! Lots of nice metal to lightly work over. And prep for paint. 🎉. About how much did it cost for the blasting on the shell??
At the time is was about $2,400 to media blast the whole car. They did the fenders, valence, skirts, etc as well.
The car is looking great! I used raptor liner which came out perfect. You picked a great color! Ready for more. Thanks
Thanks! The color is more amazing in person.
Beautiful
How much did you pay for sandblasting currently looking to have what you got done. And what was the price for the body shop Would really appreciate it need to know if I’m gonna need to pull out a second mortgage 😂 awesome videos by the way brother 🤟🏻
The sandblasting was about $2,400 for the complete car and subframe. It was a little more due to using soda blasting on some parts of the car. Every body shop has a different price as far as labor and it also depends if you are keeping it stock or doing mods or need panel replacements. Plan at least $20k if you’re in CA.
I’m 20 min away from oc sand blasting 😂. Any tips you’d give for me and my 69 id highly appreciate boss
@@Primal_fx_bandit the best tip I have is do it right. Spare no expense or you won’t be happy. If you don’t have the money at the time for a part or service, then save up and get the part or service you want. Don’t rush it!
What engine are you putting in ?
I plan to put an LS3 in it.
What engine are you putting in ?
Nice build! What paint did you use on the subframe?
I had it powder coated satin black instead of painting it.
I know it can vary depending on each project but if you don’t mind me asking. How much have you paid in body and paint work? Looks great. Currently looking to restore my 69 Camaro
It definitely depends on the project and your goals. For me, I had to buy 2 new doors, rear tail panel, driver rear fender skin, mini tub from DSE, raised the tunnel with the Bowler tunnel panel, patched random holes with welding, rhino raptor under the car, body work, then paint. It was well over $20k, but I had a lot more done than just a factory restore.
What color is your paint? Looks good
The color is called Infrared from Lexus.
Base coat clear coat?

That looped bracket is factory - it’s the tire iron hold down. Nice job working through the challenges. 👍
Thanks for that info! Always learning something new 😁
I know they’re just rollers, but there’s nothing better on a first gen than the rallye wheels. Those look great.
They do look good, but I have other plans. I plan to keep the old school look but with a modern wheel.
@@allenwoolsey cool, looking forward to seeing the rest of the build.
The front calipers bolted up without any problems
They sure did!
Thank you for taking the time to make the video while figuring out this project. I am considering doing some or all of the suspension upgrades and know nothing about it. This vid helps. Where did you source the Z28 and ZL1 parts?
Finding the Z28 and 1LE parts weren’t super easy as I believe many of them are discontinued, but I was able to find left over stock at Rock Auto, my local Chevrolet dealer, and some random online stores. Patience and lots of phone calls were made to check actual stock. Never believe the websites when they say they are in stock, not necessarily true. Give them a call before ordering.
Love the color, just found your channel
Thank you!
Are you using the ride tech true turn with your suspension?
Yes, I am.
@allenwoolsey have you ran into header clearance issues? I'm fixing to order one for my build but am seeing guys not clearing long tube headers with it.
@@jerrodpatterson8938 unfortunately fitting the engine and headers is way out in the future for my build. I do plan to go with Holley as I have heard they solve a lot of the clearance issues.
