Mental Health and Drug Use
In this episode, we dive into a critical topic: Mental Health and Drug Use. It’s crucial to be open with your provider about any substance use, even if it’s something you don’t think is a big deal. We explore how using substances to manage emotions can actually keep you stuck in therapy, preventing real progress.
We also talk about how certain drugs can impact your ability to process emotions and trauma during therapy. If you’ve ever felt like you’re not getting anywhere in your sessions, this might be something to consider. Don’t miss this important conversation-it could make all the difference in your mental health journey.

    When I was teen and adult they always still told on me when I was in my early 20’s. The therapist I have now she hasn’t told but told me she needs to tell the psychiatrist but one thing I don’t like is my therapist wants to see them to make sure they aren’t two deep and they are kept clean I don’t know why I have been doing it from the age of 13-am 38 years now

    So I read they make you focus on an event or core memory that we think our anxiety, depression, etc could stem from. What if you don’t have an event? I suffer from anxiety, depression, and possibly add and sone mood disorder. I’m just not okay, I’ll say that. I’ve had people suggest this to me and I’d love and being to try, however… I don’t have a memory that pops up that ever happened to me that was so negative I think it could be affecting me now. Is that how I works? What about for someone like me? Could they help maybe unlock that memory? Or maybe show me a memory I didn’t believe had an affect on me but truly did, or even something I’ve forgotten or blacked out of my mind?

    • @MyPeakMindset
      @MyPeakMindset 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Totally! There doesn’t always have to be a specific memory, just an image as a starting point. You’re more trying to help resolve an untrue and negative belief, and we get those from all kinds of places, not always a specific memory.

      @@MyPeakMindset okay. Thanks for the reply. With others I’ve seen stuff like abuse, SA, emotional abuse from a parent or guardian, and they say it really triggers those memories and you’ll be really upset and almost reliving those memories for a couple days…. But I don’t have any of that. That I’m aware of anyway. I was given up by my parents when I was a very young child and then adopted by an amazing HUGE Italian family… so I think like for sure maybe something to do with my Biological parents could be affecting me. I have no memory of them at all though. I was an infant, all I know is the family I have now. So well it could be something that affects me, there are no memories associated with it… so I always thought maybe this was for people with trauma that they remember. Where myself I don’t have those kind of memories or experiences.

      @@MyPeakMindset thanks for the information. I will certainly take a deeper look into this. I know a lot of people who have said it changed their life, and i would love to be able to say the same. My anxiety more than anything causes issues in my life. Things I can’t do or are afraid to do that my children want to do or my significant other wants to do. That is the big one for me, I don’t want them missing out because I have issues. Thanks again for the info.

    All these questions are very annoying and if you suffer from clinical depression and suicidal ideology for over 50 years, I’m sorry 45 years to answer the questions if you have insurance and psychology lesson if you don’t have insurance, it’s like going to prison. Avoid hospitals at all cost . It might take me a little while to snap out of it. I finally went back to work after three years. No, I know I never collected disability. I didn’t even get my damn stimulus checks locked up. I don’t know why we force if somebody has children or family and it’s just like , they just can’t cope for that or that or that thing if this is something that’s needed to do for decades and has been trying to save their family from and they no longer have a family to save because they already saved them and they’re just trying to save themselves that’s different. The keyword phrases we know the difference between suicide ideology and suicide and I have never always get sick of hearing. Do you want to hurt yourself? I told shrink the priest when I was 17. I don’t hurt myself. I just wanna kill myself. I want to die I went to a successful career and many many many people and those people went on to help many many many people, but I still suffer from depression and anxiety , very hard to get a roof over my head… I’ve had bananas with therapist and they’ve called the cops to find me and then I am an anxiety attack because I’ve been beaten up by cops. I stopped calling check on and also do not if your child specially a teenager your child is acting out and you don’t know what to do call fire department do not call 911 or the police Because your kid goes screaming they’re very likely to shoot them. Police are not trained and mental illness. Does it matter if it’s a real knife or nothing doesn’t matter what color you are it doesn’t matter what color you are you call the police your teenager and they will get they may get shot and you will live with that for the rest of your life so, how do you get, an answer Dr. Phil doesn’t have the answer unfortunately social doesn’t have the answer but you have to try. Don’t know what you’re supposed to for God, friends, friends, friends, prayer, prayer, Pastor, relative compassionate of the same sex actually just in case I asked my family and friends all I ask is if somebody could just call me and text me good night I’d like them to call me but nobody ever does. Somebody could just text me good night but they don’tknow that means I’m on a string breathe that I wish I wasn’t waking up. You know not interested in texting me good night but you don’t want to harass the person either so there are a lot of groups about this and then illnesses become a lot more important or recognized.

    I'm guessing this is in the US? I'm from the uk and when it happened with me, I went in with ambulance and was put in what was called an 'assessment room'. I was there for hours, all it was, was a room with some chairs. Though this might have been because they were struggling to get beds. After many hours, they tried to face time me to do an assessment but by that point, I had gotten worse physically and just said I can't talk about this now. Then I eventually got a bed and altogether I stayed in hospital for 3 days. But once I was physically fit, I was able to go home. They don't seem to keep people for mental health reasons. The first time I was able to self-discharge then I went back the next night for the same reason and was still able to self-discharge. Even in the assessment room I was still quite able to just walk out despite it being the third or fourth time in a week. Pleased to say I am much better now though :)

    Wow, that makes perfect sense that “suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.” However, what if it’s not a “temporary problem”? For example, the patient had a serious spinal cord injury that has resulted in other serious medical conditions and he suffers from chronic pain every day of their life. The patient has had over 20+ surgeries to try and fix their pain; including an internal drug pump that provides hourly fusions of pain meds, and a neurostimulator implant to try and help block the pain, but it doesn’t work. The more pain medication he uses to ease the pain, causes him to sleep all the time or be too tired to effectively function. The doctors, all experts in their fields are clueless on how to end the patient’s daily suffering. The patient has literary tried everything to stop the pain and live a productive life, but he’s simply told by every doctor he see, “you’re complicated” and they walk away. This patient has become a burden to his family. 1. He can’t engage his 10 year old daughter in any meaningful “father, daughter” way (play house, soccer, etc.) 2. Despite his best effort, he can’t hide his pain from his daughter, and she worries about him, which causes her to be upset. 3. He can’t sleep at night, due to his pain and PTSD. 4. He has a short temper with his wife, who doesn’t fully support him. 5. He fails asleep while eating his dinner, practically every night, due to his insomnia and pain medication. The list goes on, but the point is that his problems are not “temporary” and yet he’s expected to go on suffering each day in tremendous pain, because there’s supposed to be a solution to every problem? He has weighed his options very carefully. In fact, it’s been 10 years since he was first injured. He’s exhausted every possible way to find a way to control the pain and even the doctors are saying they’ve done all they can. He isn’t acting impulsively, or solely at the time when his pain is too high to accurately measure. What other cute slogan can you come up with that is a truly valid argument against this patient choosing to kill himself and end his suffering?

      Glad it was helpful! I hope that it’s a really good experience for you. Going to that first one is the hardest! You can do it.

    You can setup iphones to do it automatically for you at a set time. The first week i stopped social media at 8:30 every night and i have had dreams/REM sleep nearly every single night and im two weeks in.

    Did I lo ck the door, did I wash hands? Did I check the gas stove? You call those OCD when people have much bigger symptoms like avoidance OCD from childhoo trauma and they are also labelled as OCD instead od childhood trauma. And if someone gives same treatment that's given to the obsessive door locker, they got to be out of their mind.

      That’s a good point! Trauma responses can look very similar to OCD symptoms, and hopefully your therapist would be able to help you identify the root cause and come up with the most helpful and correct interventions.

    Please Mention a structure and how to overcome it. I have already recognized it but can't break the loop.
