I've seen some rough hairlines. Hard to salvage what was left. Even still, it could be salvaged with a good cut, or a good style, or both. A good style rejuvenated the guy's appearance by like 10 years. But that's not to say that that is necessary. A good hat is just as good of a choice, and can give your appearance a whole different style of look. And you my friend, have fantastic taste in headwear, and fantastic styles to go with it.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with your hairline. My son's father started balding in high school too, by graduation he had a full creacent moon bald patch right in the top of his head. He was also very big on hats. Which was fine -- hats made him more confident out in public. But he also knew that I did not give a crap what his hair was doing and thought he was just the cutest no matter what. He was literally the best human being I have ever known before or since. Who can care if the best person you have ever met in your life is a little bald?
