    Is this just for first fitting? I assume its deconstructed after that as right sides of lapel need to go together to sew the lapel and collar, right???

  • @allanpennington

    So wouldn't the canvas usually cover the inner lapel too and be pad stitched then the roll line taped?

    I occaisionally make my canvases just like this, generally only for my own jackets, for other people I always use hand stitches, I find the machine can sometimes "kill" the canvas a little bit, but it's still super effective.

    The cuts in the horse hair and hymo. Are they for flexibility in that area in the finished garment?

    • @arturtailorsltd1893
      @arturtailorsltd1893 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the flexibility that the cuts add helps the garment be more comfortable to wear.

    Do you wax the thread after? I use a couture technique where the wax is applied to several pieces of cotton thread which are then placed inside a fold of paper and ironed to melt the wax into the thread.

    • @biasbespoke
      @biasbespoke 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's possible to wax the thread and it's not necessary. If you do wax it, we recommend getting out the extra wax by pressing it into a fold of muslin or other fabric, so that, yes, the wax melts into the thread and there's none extra remaining to stain your garment's fabric.

    Does the hymo, hair canvas, and domett come pre-shrunk?

    • @biasbespoke
      @biasbespoke ปีที่แล้ว

      Horsehair canvas and domette don't need to be pre-shrunk. Hymo usually does not come pre-shrunk, so it's always a good idea to get it wet and hang it to dry before you put it into a coat. And even in the rare case that a hymo you find has been washed already (we sell one or two hymos like this), it's never bad to wash it again. Fabrics are continually changing over the course of their lives, but they shrink a lot at first and then a little less each time they dry.

    I like how many women are working as very skilled bespoke professionals in this company.

    • @biasbespoke
      @biasbespoke ปีที่แล้ว

      We do too! Artur was one of the first (if not the first) tailors in NYC to train and employ women as tailors - recognizing the idea that men are better tailors than women is solely based in culture and training, not in inherent skill or ability. Most of our tailors are women and a couple have been working with Artur since the early 2000s, having been hired and trained by him at Barbara Matera's famous costume shop years before we opened Artur & Tailors in 2009. They are now some of the most skilled tailors in NYC. <3

      Yes, makes such a difference! It's a reminder of how small, incremental work provides noticeable results when taken in aggregate! In life, and in tailoring! ;)
