CUCV - M1009 - Testing for parasitic draw
Someone on steel soldiers asked how to test for parasitic draw that is killing their batteries. Here it is.
WARNING: Do not do this test with the keys in the ignition. You can damage your multi-meter.
Anything you break is on you, and crying won't change that. Follow at your own risk.

A user of Steel Soldiers is getting no charging out of the alternator on the passenger side. This is a test to make sure the exciter wire has 12v going to it with the key turned. If it doesn't, the regulator wont work and you'll get no AC to DC voltage regulation out. After probably more planning and double checking than any other flexplate removal, this one is finally out. Used 4 1/2 “ x 3/8” Bolts on the bottom 4 transmission mounting bolt holes so I could just slide the transmission back far enough to get the flexplate and torque converter separated and get the flexplate out hopefully make reinstall alignment easier. After I changed all the items this was the result. Unfortunately, as soon as I added Transmission Fluid, it developed a "noise" which turned out to be the flexplate hitting the starter. The reason is that the Torque Converter in the truck was a 3 pad one, and Diesel applications require a 6 pad converter. Everything had to come back apart. Couldnyou provide part number and brand of that new flex plate and torque converter you used?
Do you happen to have the part numbers? Also, did this retain the fuel heater and water in fuel light? Thanks

Instead of grinding down the spade terminal, why not just buy the correct size?
If I converted to 12volt, using 12 volt starter, and want convert the alternators to put out 12v, do I just unhook the negative wire from the driver alternator?

Gens look to be reading OK. Driver's side is about .2 low, but that doesn't account for over a full volt missing at the batteries. I'd say cable issue/dirty contacts...
Agreed. Corrosion = resistance. Resistance = less voltage.
