Thanks for the explanation! Very helpful! My biggest problem with learning Chinese is unlearning English syntax. I translate Chinese words but put them in incorrect order because of sentence structures I have learned in English.
Glad it was helpful!
Very accurate explanations! Thanks a lot!
You are welcome!
Hi I was watching a chinese drama and when the characters reach a destination they always say "dao le" or 到了. Is this a shortened way of saying we arrived?
Yes. Conversational way to say arrived. 😉
If someone is not doing as they're told, in English we could say : " Now, you listen to me ! " In Chinese, I think that could be : 你给我听好! ( But I'm not sure. )
You use this when scolding someone.

I thought that 找人 meant to physically look for somebody. In that case, "contact" is not good in English, because "contact" means by phone or by e-mail. So 随时来找我 should be "Come and see me anytime". (This is very common, especially in an office setting.) Similarly, 随时来找我 should be "If you have any issues, come and see me". (This also is very common in an office setting.)

This is a great expression to learn, and it certainly does mean "suffer in silence". However, "suffer in silence" is a somewhat literary form, rarely used in everyday spoken language. We are more likely to say "take it lying down", and this is very common. We could also say "grin and bear it". Or "turn the other cheek". This is a biblical expression, where Jesus advises people not to hit back when slapped, but to "turn the other cheek". Its use is quite common. … I also appreciated learning : 别把责任推到妹妹身上 = "Don't shift the blame onto your sister"
I'm glade i found your channel. Its a hidden gem. Thank you for your efforts. 😊
This is one the best ways to teach Chinese ive seen so far...if you could write transition of each word in front of each character that would be more convenient. But still its best. Im learning Chinese and going to see your other videos.
Awesome, thank you teacher
"The ship dropped anchor in Hong Kong" = 船在香港抛锚了 It's interesting that 抛锚 ("drop anchor") is also used for "break down" when talking about cars.
抛锚了 means broke down. Drop anchor shld be just 抛锚。
I wonder if 怎么回事 can be used with the meaning "How can that be?". For example: "Although he failed the exam, his father bought him a new car. How can that be?" 虽然他考试不及格,他爸爸还是给他买了一辆新车。这是怎么回事?
I have only seen 兜风 used with 开车 before, but I guess it's more versatile than that. How about : 我们骑马去兜风吧 ("Let's go for a horseback ride")
Can be used with horses, boats as well.
When learning Chinese, one of the challenges language learners face is differentiating similar-sounding words with distinct meanings and usages. In this video, we will explore how the three Chinese terms 到达 (dàodá), 抵达 (dǐ dá), and 达到 (dádào) should be used. Although they all include the character 达, which conveys a sense of 'reaching' or 'arriving,' they differ in context and application.
5:21 国家代表团安全地抵达目的地。you can also say 安全抵达without using 地. sorry for the typo error. 😒
Maybe "safely arrive" should be 安全地抵达. 安全的抵达 looks more like "safe arrival".
You are right. Should have checked before uploading. 😒. Can also omit the 地 and just say 安全抵达目的地。
非常好的视频,很好的例子, 谢谢!
还有,最后两句话都是错误的。
他 [毕竟] 是你爸爸...
究竟/到底/毕竟都可以用
”你到底吃了吗?“ 这句话没有任何问题。
听来怪怪的。
到底 is seeking an answer. 吗 is asking a question.
6:50 I think you mean to say 买 has to be before 别的. Because the example sentence has 买 before 别的,not after.
Yes, 买should be before别的。😢
In English, we have "get on one's high horse" which is very different from 马上. It means to use one's high status to treat others in a demeaning way. My computer translates it as 摆出一副傲慢的样子 or 居高临下 which both seem right to me. 妈妈不在家时姐姐摆出一副傲慢的样子叫我洗碗说她不得不要看重要的电视节目。 "While mom was out, big sis got on her high horse and told me to wash the dishes because she had an important TV show to watch."
她有个电视节目不得不看。
I think that 偏偏我 exactly means "me of all people". This means the same as "unfortunately only me", but the wording is different. So, I think that : 大家的行李都没事,偏偏我的被弄丢了 could be translated as : "Everyone's luggage is fine, but, of all people, mine got lost"
Still feel confused about 究竟。I don't think it was explained clear enough on it's meaning as a noun or it's usage.
你究竟懂不懂我在说什么? To translate this, I would add "so" at the beginning of the teacher's text and say : "So, do you understand what I'm talking about?" This "so" indicates that all discussion is over, and we just want the final outcome. This is how 究竟 means "finally", "in the end", or "when all is said and done".
Nice video.
Similar to 勿 ("do not"), I think there is also 禁止 ("prohibited"). I think that 禁止 is only used for signs. So, the sign could say : 火车内禁止大声喧哗 = "Loud noise is prohibited on the train"
We'll explore the specific meanings, usages, and examples of 别, 不要, and 勿 in this video. Although these word all convey a sense of "don't" or "do not in English, they are used in different contexts and carry subtle differences. 😀🙂

Your lessons are great. I wish you could compress or split up the lessons. 16 minutes for a 5 minute lesson is difficult - but I know you are teaching us well, so for that, thank you
Thank you for the comment.
我才不稀罕。 It seems that 稀罕 is always used in the negative with 不. In English, we could say : "I couldn't care less". This is stronger than "I don't care", which I think is usually 我不在乎。
Without negation 不,稀罕 means rare. 稀罕动物
就是名包他也会买给你的。 Although 买给 is an incorrect grammatical structure, I'm seeing it more and more often. In this sentence, I don't really see how it could be avoided. If we put the 的 between 买 and 给 then it's not so serious, but more unnatural. 就是名包他也会买的给你。
Verb-给 sentence structure. Second sentence example is grammatically wrong. You can say 就是名包他也会给你买的。
