Day of the Triffids - Triffid Miniature Restoration by Neil Cole
In 2022, Margot Hayhoe - the Production Manager for the BBC's seminal 1981 adaptation of John Wyndham's iconic novel 'The Day of the Triffids' kindly donated her surviving Triffid miniature from the filming. She very much wished for it to be restored and displayed in The Museum of Classic Sci-Fi....here is the video of my painstaking restoration of this wonderful little prop. The biggest thank you to Margot for her kindness and for visiting the museum to see the Triffid in place!

Okay....imagine the total shock when 'The Museum of Classic Sci-Fi' and its offending small Dalek enclosure gets a mention in the 'Odd one Out' round on 'Have I Got News For You'!!!! Yes...really....and to be clear.....the shed pictured is NOT our lovely little Dalek House...see picture below right to see what the offending Dalek shed actually looked like....it was NOT the one that appeared in ...

On waking one quiet Saturday morning....who was at the door....but Tim Hogarth(!) wanting to make a short insert film for an upcoming episode of 'Dickinson's Real Deal' (of course!)! Tim had just purchased a 1970's Palitoy Dalek and wanted to film a suitably themed 'Dalek' insert film to accompany his purchase on the show! Tim and his daughter were charming and had a look round the museum!

Restoring a Weevil: Patron Exclusive 1

Welcome to the first film made exclusively for museum patrons. In this short movie I take you through the restoration of an original 'Weevil' mask from the 'Doctor Who' spin-off series 'Torchwood'. Despite the mask remaining still in reasonable condition (for a well used production piece) it features some light damage. I hope the film gives you some idea of the work that goes into repairing and...

looks really good 👍
I just thought of this today !
Did you inform your local PETA?
Brilliant to see the restoration process. Final result is superb
Excellent work. So fortunate that one survived. Such an iconic series for those of a certain vintage!
Lovely restoration Neil. I remember being absolutely terrified of Triffids as a kid. Now of course it would just go in my soup pot!
Lovely interview, come back on our Podcast soon, would love to catch up!
Cracking video bud!
Didn't peg you for a snow expert Neil, socks are definitely a good choice. According to the Twelfth Doctor, there was no such thing as socks until there suddenly were. He said a lot of other crazy things too.
Thanks for this I am a huge fan of Madeline and not much can be found of her!
very impressive! went recently, very good.
Looks great Neil, I’m sure the finished Vervoid will look great 😊 👍
I did type vervoid- stupid autocorrect!
The vervain is fantastic! Your museum is amazing, I can't wait to visit in person. Thank you for being so passionate about Dr Who and creating all of this!

This could only happen in Britain, I'd never believe such nonsense would he true had it not be for living here.
Town Hall tyrants
Looks a Great day gutted I couldn’t make it.

Was a fantastic day and get a copy of the dvd about The Museum of Classic SciFi by Reeltime pictures and Keith Barnfather. Great value and fantastic history of the Museum.
Why would members of the public do such a thing as wilfully destroy K-9's ears? The stupidity of humans continues to amaze me.
Well done Neil, and thanks for sharing this wonderful update to the museum 😎👍
he came out and chatted to us while we were queeing for autographs atthe Aldbourne, nice guy
Well done, if it wasn't for you these props and costumes woud no dboubt have ended up at the great sci fi convention in the sky
Great stuff Neil!
Really nice video! Your museum is like a site of visitation in Roadside Picnic, entry into The Zone. I have been enjoying your archive file on the Thing as well, what a great piece of work, both in terms of information and presentation, its such a pleasure to read. Without it I never would have discovered the artistry that was completely lost in the 2011 film. What a shame that the ADI animatronics, and especially the Pilot, were cut. I had a visceral reaction to the animatronics in the ADI youtube clips thats completely lacking in relation to the cgi. I wonder if test screenings always throttle creativity as hyperactive market forces homogenise the very space of novelty they relied on in the first place? How many films have needed time to generate their audience? How ironic that a film about an a-cephalic shape-changing organism that makes all individual identities function as extensions of itself should fall foul of just such a process…
Brilliant and great to see
400th subscriber! love this channel
wow thanks for sharing this looks so amazing. I live in nz
It looks a great museum, hopefully myself ,my girlfriend and our boy will be able to visit it next year
Great fun. Loved it. I'm a member of the museum and must visit ASAP. Well done
He’s my art teacher
Hey, Neil. I'm guessing there's a bod from the Parish Council didn't like this video clip :-D
Not to knock the Northumberland exhibit but Blackpool was/is a very natural fit for a sci fi museum.
Great museum. Must visit. Delighted to see the name Roger diley in the titles. I was involved with him and the Faversham si fi group a few exhibitions running the dalek films and carnival. Not seen him in over 20 years. If you speak to him please say hi from Dalek bob from ramsgate. Best wishes
Love the out takes!!! :D
Cybermen are my favourite ❤️❤️❤️
Superb work Neil
Sorry John - missed this message! Thank you so much for that!
I realize that this has been open for a while now but my friend just told me about it last night, she said that your house was featured on a show called Amazing Interiors. Anyway, I love it when a fan is able to fulfill their heart's desire like this. Congratulations, I wish you all the success in the world.
Truly awesome. Defo getting a selfie with Broton.
I'm intrigued - what are the mini Daleks glimpsed in the box at the front of the van...?!
Terror of the Zygons is one of my Desert Island DW stories. Can't wait to see him in the future.
Oh wow, I’d be too nervous to touch it, much less pull it out of the back of a van. So precious.
How amazing is Mike for loaning this amazing Zygon to you?! What a kind gentleman! Hope the process of adding the arms and fixing the eyes goes well.
The Thing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ really looking forward to seeing that. Stay well 🙏
Jon was my first Doctor; from him falling out of the TARDIS at the start of Spearhead I was hooked. I met him as Worzel (him, not me) and he was in character throughout.
I met John a few months before he died....it was pure magic. He just WAS the Doctor- he oozed charisma and an other worldliness!!! He did a Worzel impression on stage for a girl with a disability at the front.....just amazing!!! Thanks so much for watching! Best wishes, Neil
@@neilcole8306 I could wax lyrical about this story and Pertwee in general, but I didn't want to hog the thread. I will definitely come back to it though. Stay well good sir!
