great convo - Jake is a legend
Hey, I recently found your channel and i found it great the only feedback I would give you is that you can improve videos editing and thumbnails.I can help you for making best thumbnail and video editing service for you.Other then great content; you earned sub) Regards, Abdul
Great interview Tyson! Have followed Floris for a long time and really enjoy his interview manner and approach 👌 Off topic, but will you be running Rip to River this Saturday, being a Point Lonsdale local? 🤔🙂 Looking like a hot one!! 🥵
Thanks for the love! He's an absolute ripper! Mate - I'm not actually - but I see the temperature and it does look like it will be a bit of hot one! 🙃 Are you running?
@@RelaxedRunning Yep, I'll be a starter! One of my favourite summer events, along with Mountain to Surf at Lorne 🏃🙂
If I can whistle while running, which zone am I likely in?
What about zone 1?
"Relaxed Running" exactly the right guest.
Great video - I'll be following along. I too am on a mission to go sub-2'30, but do not have the background you do :-) Have only been running less than 2 years but pumped to see where my 'genetic ceiling' is. I've just turned 40, last marathon was a 3'10 in Perth in October - long way to go! Thanks for sharing and I'm sure I'll pick up a lot of great insights along the way from you 👍Btw, I'd recommend The New Rules of Marathon and Half-Marathon Nutrition by Matt Fitzgerald for a very readable, sensible book on nutrition & fuelling for endurance runners. i found it really helpful.
I really enjoyed that. So many cool areas covered and lots of ideas for improvement, thanks.
nahhhhh bugger that lot. Wear what’s comfy.
Great. Please note that fat oxidation takes place when also enough carbs are available otherwise you hitting the wall (you book a hiking day). Keyword ihere s beta fat oxidation. Nice easy equation from Joe regarding internal/external cost (Seiler had another equation based on watts). But fundamentals are valid: Zone1 training (3 Zone Model) is the most effective for Mitochondria genese and capilarisation.
Thanks mark
You should get John Walker on the show ❤ Freaking Legend from down under ❤
We love Allie!!!
For me the hardest things about Ultra Running are finding the time to train, maintaining relationships and not neglecting the children. So I just stick to ParkRun.😅
Hey 41 year old runner here, I have similar issues with the calves, my eventual diagnosis was that they are just weak, full stop. So I think you are spot on in getting those stronger.
The part where Chris is talking about PRO athletics talking in huge CARBS amounts, has nothing to do with muscles storing sugars (glycogen) in muscles... This amount of CARBS is in the blood stream and ~100% available for energy on the fly... -- I'll ~never do another marathon or anything past 10Ks so this info is meaningless to me really...
Chris makes alot of sense here and I'm glad someone out here admits that there is gonna be some pain \ agony in doing any race, at any distance at your ~peak effort...
nice talk, thank you..
Just subd. Would be great to hear how your going with the calf strains down the track. Goodluck in training and the marathon
Hey awesome channel and info... funny enough my boy 13yr suffers from reoccurring calf strains. Was recovering from one and still managed to jag 2 silvers in the 800 and 1500m at allschools. Physio thinks its weak hammies. So strength in legs is getting worked on, but when i think about it, he is purely a forfoot striker which in plated shoes/spikes would stress the calf, therefor calf strengthening excersizes would be more beneficial.. his currently running 2.04 800m, 4.14 1500m, 4.37 mile 9.15 3k and 16.20 5k. Apart from the 800m all those times were done as a 12yr. Have slow build to perth nationals in aprill 2025 which will be tough as this age group is stacked with talent.. keep producing these videos.. great work👍
Gold Coast sold out in 24hours. It's a great marathon
See you in Gold Coast!
I see Allie's parents so much reflected in Allie's personality: smart, strong, thoughtful, articulate, responsible, self-aware, with a good sense of humor. So great. !!! I'm eager to see Allie's story unfold over the next year.
2:29
Allie - you've got a lot of fans here in Canada! :)
When you discussed recently that technique isn't taught enough to runners it reminded me of the Fredrik Zillen TH-cam channel. He's got loads of great videos on running technique. Might be a good shout for the podcast.
Is there a typo in the title and you meant to say Kenyans or Ethiopians? I dont see any Japanese inside the top 50 of the marathon world rankings.
No typo here. It is widely known in the running world that Japan is an elite marathon country. Outside of Kenyan and Ethiopia, Japan is the 3rd best country in the marathon distance and their marathon runners are mainly amateur non-professional runners as compared to Kenya & Ethiopia where elite marathon runners are mostly professionals. Japan has over 200 runners clocking sub-2 hour 10mins in marathons. UK has 22 runners and US has 34 runners achieving this elite time. Bearing in mind, Japan has only a third of population size of USA. No typo here and it is well-known in the running world that Japan has most depth of elite runners in the world.
Maybe watch the video bud
But you can see so many 2h15 japanese marathoners working in a 10h-12h hour shift :)
akira akasaki is top 50 and he got 6th in the olympic marathon :)
I don't think you need to get too hung up on the actual HR number the key is it should feel easy.As a footnote if like me you are not keen on chest HRM's the latest armbands like the Corus one work equally well for me and are much less "fath"
Long running best shoez
Great video. Love Flo's Extramilest podcast and everything Tyson is doing too. The low HR training was a game changer for me. Always running too quickly before. Now really enjoy my running and PB's all improving too.
Thank you so much for this conversation! @FlorisGierman and his holistic approach to running transformed my running and my life. I really enjoy your content which aligns with a holistic approach too. 🙏🏾
Brilliant talk! Thanks ❤
Really enjoyed our conversation Tyson! Looking forward to some relaxed running miles with you when our paths cross in person next time. Keep doing what you’re doing! 🙌🙏
You pr in the first mike 😅
I’ve run 5 half marathons. My plan for the last was not thought out at all. I started out way too fast. I thought I could finish in 1:45. I couldn’t. If I tried to stay in the 1:50 group I could have picked up the pace later on and finished in under 1:50. I’m registered for one in march. I wouldn’t consider Atlanta to be all that flat. It’s very hilly. There’s a lot of rolling hills. It’s great and all for getting fit but not ideal for a record half marathon time.
Such a refreshing conversation. Re: the sleep, so true. I just spent 4 months training for a marathon, pushing through massive sleep deprivation (also a 4 year old and a 1 year old over here :)), clinging on to pushing the volume and intensity. And while I had the "best" numbers in terms of volume and tempo sessions, I was completely burnt out during taper, with my HR way elevated up until race day. Luckily on race day I didn't chase numbers and just embraced the situation and slowed down, had a super fun day, despite missing my "target time" and massive cramps at km 35 lol. But it's so true you gotta let go of chasing numbers with these kind of things happening in life. It's about the joy! Can't wait for solid sleep to come back though haha!
As a person who is getting older it was interesting about the weighted vest. I didn't realize it helped with bone density. I do happen to have one and can adjust the weight. I will definitely start using it daily
It makes my core burning, it works. Thanks.
Allie is a natural in front of the camera. She seems so relaxed and genuine that her You Tube content is by far my favourite to watch. Just for balance, I’m also a fan of Spencer’s stuff
I remember when you moved. You should run into Ryan Van Duzer.
Allie is the best, thanks for this interview!
Thanks so much for having me on! It was a blast taking with you 🤗
I love Allie’s TH-cam videos. Her humor and humility around running, training, life and her recovery are so good. I love following her professional racing us and downs She is a very good runner and I think she will do great next year.
Allie has the best TH-cam content. I especially love when David paces her track sessions.
OMG Allie we are sisters! I hate strength training!
IDK Allie, I personally don't think you can have too much Georgie. Ok, maybe not 100% Georgie, but never underestimate the Georgie draw.
I have heard that there have been studies about using a vibration plate can really help with bone density. My grandmas friend used one at 75 years old and her bone scan after came back better than before and the only thing changed was taking calcium and using the vibration plate once a day
Besides her obvious running talent, Allie has a hilarious sense of humor. She's a crackup. She takes her training and racing very seriously; but she has the ability to infuse a tremendous amount of lightheartedness in her vlogs.
❤❤💚💚
I relate so much to 2 sets of a lift being the boredom limit.
