Dr Maffetone is a legend. He was so ahead of his time. I've been listening to his advice for over 15 years and i've been healthy ever since.

He’s definitely good at explaining what is going on regarding our mental and physical health due to the stress we put on our bodies from pushing ourselves too hard. That’s why he developed the MAF method.

Thanks for another great interview Tys 👍 Interested in your thoughts on this one...
I'm 53 yo and have been running for many years and my lab-tested max HR is 180bpm (ie. that of a 40yo according to the predicted max HR formula of 220bpm - age). I've tried running at my MAF HR of 127 but made no progress and in fact lost fitness, and my body also felt worse at such a low speed (ie. knees and ankles). Ironically when I just run by feel at a nice easy, conversational pace, my HR consistently seems to be around 140bpm (ie. what my MAF HR would be calculated at if I used my actual max HR, not my formula-predicted max HR).
Question: Is it better to use your actual max HR (if you know it) to calculate your MAF HR rather than the formula 180bpm - age, especially if there is such a big variation as in my case? 🤔
