Thank you so much for the info. You explanation make perfect sense and was so helpful.
Could the Carli 2.5 radius arms fit with this drop
I'm getting ready to fab some links for my XJ with a junkyard lift. Thanks for the information! Proper sway bar geometry is something that not a lot of people talk about. I've been getting by with some cheapos from Amazon as a stop-gap, and I wouldn't recommend they be a permanent solution.
So my wj when i hit a bump the wheel jerks like you show but then goes into a full blow death wobble everything is new checking angles tomorrow only have 2 inch pucks.
Great video! Where can I find your video on resonance and harmonic motion?
Hi.great Sunday. I have a 2014 Rubicon since lately the track bar bracket on the diff housing keeps breaking off what could be causing it. Ha e it more than 3 years a d just start this problem
This is on a Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ. It has a 4 inch lift. So great question, currently I don't have the front drive shaft could I just adjust the lower control arms longer until the death wobble goes away? I have upgraded to one ton steering and upgraded track bar with it. Could I do that to temporarily drive it until long arms? It only does death wobble over bumps everything is tight is was aligned. I am thinking it is just from the bumps like you explained in the video. If not what would you do? I have upgraded to 5/8 bolts for lower control arms so they shouldn't be ovaled out. The track bar is upgraded on bolts to 9/16. I am not getting popping noises anywhere from steering. I have checked ball joints and there doesn't seem to be any play up and down. Also, the same with wheel bearings no side to side play. The alignment shop has agreed with me on the ball joints and wheel bearings.
I’m late but I have a question….. my stock wheels 16x8 30+ offset. I just brought 22x9 20+ offset. Wouldn’t that be a perfect fit offset???
Would a slight shimmy in the steering (occasionally not always) be the start of a death wobble?
Assuming the track bar and the drag link are perfectly parallel, how important is the length of the two? The track bar being shorter seems it would have a tighter radius through the up/down travel even when parallel with the drag link.
Im planning to lift 2.5 with the terraflex lift is this just a starter lift since it does not come with longer swaybar connectors
My jeep jk has the worst death wobble and it's supper violent and need to find someone to fix I cause I cant figure it out. I have 35 12.50s
Can’t find the group on FB…. This still a thing?
Negative offset is my vibe
Rotating my tires front to back worked for my shimmy on my 97 TJ, thanks.
thanks man i was having trouble with this offset thing i even waste my money buying a set that is way way way out from the car so thanks teacher this is how easy teaching n learning should be
For anyone considering.. they work as they should, correcting the geometry. The only issue I ran into was the Vertical bolt hits the top cab making a squeaking sound. I corrected this by buying a shorted bolt for both sides.
Did I hear correctly? The two strut assemblies need to be swapped from one side to the other? What is the reason for this?
Yeah driving down I-70 just west of Denver at a mere 50mph hitting those bumps, I popped way over in the other lane. Fortunately no accidents. Jeep JK.
Does a wheel spacer push the vehicle away from the wheel if there is a positive offset?
I had death wobble in my 2001 jeep xj 2x4 with large tires. Bought regular tires and wobble went away.
Reinforce the brackets for the track bar, upper on frame and axle. The bolt wreaks havok on the thin metal flanges and creates massive play. They went cheap on something that's designed to handle massive weight and force. I got rid of it by doing this. Jeeps suspension is no different than any other vehicle with coils on an axle. Check out synergy upper and lower track bar reinforce kits. Also if any other component on a suspension is weak or damage itll cause dw. If your out of alignment over 1/4 of an inch. Camber, toe, axle alignment position. Anything. Itll cause a dw and that goes for any vehicles. I have a clayton offroad track bar with synergy performance reinforcements. 2 years now and my JT willys 3.0 literally drives like a car thanks to that 3. I wished i took pictures of the oem track bar bolt when i took it out, inside the whole was beat. And i even checked all the torque specs when i first got dw, so they had it dialed in. They went cheap where it matters most is the problem.
Explained perfectly
What about a stock Jeep? It's a 2009 JKU 2x4. 160k miles. I replaced tires, front tire rod, alignment and steering suspension.
Motivation to get my 79 "Brian Chuchua" Super Chief out of storage and begin making progress. Thanks for sharing.
If it is a resonant frequency issue, then maybe clamping some weight on it would change the resonant frequency...
Encountered it today with only 30K miles on a stock JL... Of course, it's out of warranty, so no reason to take it to the stealership...
Thanks for this explanation! How do I assess what part (lower control arm?) I need to buy? Can I send you pictures of the jeep I am thinking about buying? Would you be able to identify the solution from photos? Can I pay you for this service? Thanks!
U talk to fast.. if you slow it down I may be able to understand you
I’m not sure sure what size spring lift is on it but I did buy new fox 2.0 1.5”-3.5” shocks for it so it’s no bigger then 3.5”
Glad I saw this video!!! I got my Jeep with a lift and the sway bar is point down normally, the stabilizer links are very short. I always thought it looked weird but idk any better. I guess I’ll buy adjustable front ones on
So should a person measure the mounting hub of the vehicle (car) to the fender to see how much the wheel won't poke out too far?
You could measure from the mounting hub. But, what might be much easier for you is to determine the offset of the current wheels on the vehicle then adjust from there. ie: if your factory wheels are 12mm offset, anything lower numerically will poke further out. For reference-12mm would be 24mm out further
Thank you
That is the. explanation I’ve seen
So as I was thinking about this watching this video, it was making sense. As I’ve broke two stock rear sway bars. Not a jeep. And they may have inverted. But the more I think about it, the sway bar is trying to push back up, the opposite of inverting. Unless both tires are drooping. And in my case one was up and one was down, both times it broke. It actually breaks the sway bar at one of the frame bushings each time.
So informative
Gracias por el video es lo que buscaba, Saludos de Chile
Probably one of the best presentations and explanations on this issue. Thanks.
Finally, I understood! Now I can go wheels shopping. Great job!
Thank you my guy.
Looked at bunch videos on this topic this is by far the best!!! Thank You
Thank you! Happy it could help.
Thoughts on the dorman adjustable sway bar link??
I would recommend sticking to and off road designed and tested brand (assuming this is for off road use) vs. a Dorman brand.
@@dr.deathwobble4899 For my 08 jkur. Trying to get rid of my recent dw experience..
I changed my track bar and have one that is adjustable. That did not fix the problem. What should I do next?
Thnk u
you said, " like the rake on a motorcycle", NOW THAT makes sense!!!! Thank you.
Happy to help
So I need to order an adjustable lower control arm, correct?
One of my Jeep groups suggested your videos. I’m on my 3rd Jeep. My 2018JL hasn’t had death wobble “yet”, but my steering is all over the place. It has a 2.5” left prior to my buying it. Thank you for the explanation, I plan to order what I need now to fix this!!
Won't that make the driveshaft bind ?
Wrong. Lifting a Jeep adds caster, it doesn't reduce caster(upper control arm is shorter than the lower control arm). Lifting the Jeep caster increases. I have 43 years in front end alignment. First death wobble fix I had was a Freightliner tractor that the factory put too much caster in the straight axle. Dropped the caster 3 degrees, problem solved.
Well, your right and kind of wrong. My Jeep gladiator had a loose track bar bolt at the frame side bolt. So I wailed it down with two breaker bars. That didn't fix the death wobble and it was loose for sure nothing wallowed out. Every component on the Jeeps front end is tight. Me myself I checked it been a Master Mechanic since 1987. Then I had 2 reputable off road shops look into it. They found nothing wrong. I replaced the steering stabilizer. Sure the stabilizer it self wont fix death wobble it masks it. But in my case the track bar bolt being loose frame side wore out my steering stabilizer. With the track bar bolt extremely tight and new steering stabilizer its fixed
Doing the permanent fix on my WJ with 4" lift. I want 7 degrees caster AND no vibes from my front driveshaft, rotating the C's on the axle now.
