Boy I’m glad you posted this video! Just got off the bay was wash the boat and motor and noticed that play! Did not seem right!
Its a good thing you dont have a 40hp Merc. I tryed to do mine today. Got the top 2 coil pacs out and replaced the plugs but couldnt get to the last bolt on the bottom pac. The inline filter lives below the bottom pac and is not accesable. Totaly defeated. If i can ever get it out, it will be getting relocated.
The 40 set up is more of a pain for sure.
@@RFishingtx I ended up calling our local small town shop, he was pulling someones pontoon off our lake and stopped by and got it handled. 5 minutes didnt even turn a bolt. I guess i owe him a beer. 😆
What an awesome video, i took mine in last year for a 300hr service and it was 585.00 , never again. Thank you❤❤❤
@@trailtimeszr250 Thank you so much for checking the video out and glad I was able to provide some assistance in saving you some $ in the future.
@@RFishingtxI did the full service minus the impeller this year but the only thing i couldnt do was that inline fuel filter, i have the 40hp. And that filter lives below the bottom coil pac, with zero clearance. The coils and the mounting rail need to be removed to access it. Only you cant access the bottom bolt on the lower pac, and if you did put it back in , it would be a nightmare, it has standoffs behind it,; that the bolts go through.
I dont understand why people mount the transducer on the trolling motor. I mounted mine on a separate pole so I could set it where I want to look rather watch it roam around as the trolling motor goes
I did because I use it as a search tool for the most part.
Agree totally! It was a pain in the ass! ended up taking the entire deck off my Tracker 160 pro. Basically tore my entire boat apart to install. still trying to get it right.
Hi there. Greeting from Tasmania Australia. I noticed your engine data was on your phone. What app was you using? Does it show information such as motor history when trolling/ travelling along etc. I have the info showing on my gauge however having the app could be useful if you want more data. Would be a handy app if you could input oil changes/services etc. Cheers mate
It is called vessel view
@@craighingston4638 as stated it's called vesselview Mobile. It contains a lot of engine data which includes temps, pressures, fuel, engine hours, performance, faults and codes associated with those faults and yes you can record maintenance completed on there. It's a must in my opinion.
Good info
@@dallasjohnson7623 Thanks!
Thanks man! Good info!
Thanks!
Another informative video. Great job!
Thanks!
Do you have pics/video of where u mounted the vessel view mobile on engine???
@@lostviking540 I have a video called Tracker Pro 170 Review and Walk Through and at 2:55 on the video I have the cowl off and you can see where I have it installed.
@RFishingtx ok found it. Just got mine mounted and pretty sure I'll b happy w it. Have 408 hrs on my 2017 60hp. Handy to have for sure. I like the voltage reading also it's very helpful. Thanks again!
Hey friend how bad are these boats to roll from side to side. I thinking about buying one. Thanks. Jr
@@juniorshepard556 I have never had an issue. All in all a pretty stable boat.
Thx!
Great video! One problem: all the links are cut off in the description. I thought it was just because I was viewing on my phone, but they are cut off in my normal web browser too. Can you check them?
@@willsmythe Thanks! I'm not sure why that happened with the links but they should be usable in a day or so.
so what are your qualifications , and how did you come to this conclusion ?

How did you get the sand out before you put the thermostat back in?
@@sidthompson7203 Just used a clean moist rag to remove the sand in there.
Good video. I would recommend raising, lowering, and turning the motor after you think the oil has drained out. You will find another 6-8 ounces of oil will drain out.
@@lancejones3742 Thanks for that! 👍🏼
How long did it take the 4amp charger to fully charge battery???
I think about 10 hours or so from 20% to full but don't quote me on that.
Love my ionic 100ah trolling battery
It is a great battery.
Have you had any problems wit the paint coming offon the bunks.
@@brianw3822 None at all.
do we need to change the oil and filter after the 10 hour break-in time?
@@dreamfly555 It's a good idea to do so.
How did you run the larger cable for TM and additional wire to the bow?
@@Paul-c9m the wiring was already there from the factory.
Excellent, clear instructions. Great video
@@Happy-Trails-To-You Thanks!
When using spot-lock, my Terrova will often go past 180°, which would wind up breaking/damaging that cord.
Thanks for this info.
I haven't looked at any forums about the trolling motor install. Wondering if that hole can be made larger to ease the pain a bit?
@@stldavid I have seen and heard of folks that have made that opening larger.
I cut the hole to make it bigger. Was able to install a Fortrexx 80 with no problems. BIG UPGRADE. Extra battery fit in back also for 24volt in a 2022 170.
Excellent video. Good details. Thanks. Only think I noticed was that when installing the fuel filter, you didn't prime it with the primer bulb to check for any leakage.
@@mcclaren807 thanks for watching. You are correct. I did not prime it in the video and I should have in order to check for leaks.
WOW 😂😂. Sounds to me like someone wants a $90k bass boat for $20k . Like the old saying goes “ You get what you pay for !! “
@@stevenlitkey9354 thanks for watching but you’re pretty off base. If I wanted a $90k boat I would have a $90k boat. Tight lines brother.
I genuinely appreciate this HONEST review. I am in the market for a new tracker and still debating between the Classic XL and the Pro 170. The main reason i am considering the pro over the classic is the rod locker, the fixed larger fuel tank, and the better console. It would only be about $20 more a month on financing and I am thinking it would be worth it. I was going to do the 50hp with carpet.
@@MidWesti I honestly think you would be happier with the Pro 170. It has ended up being a great boat, especially with all the upgrades I have added to it.
I’m debating the same thing, I think what does it for me is the better use of floor space on the 170 compared to the xl. Lists of wasted space in front of passenger seat and every video I see people complain of the live well being terrible
@@zach-n4i I ended up getting the XL and am very happy with it. I like more open space in the hull and the removeable gas tank. I can bring an extra if needed. plus there is more working space in the battery compartment. I also got my XL brand new during the year end sale.
I just switched to a spitfire prop and noticed this thanks for posting. I also noticed a thud when I accelerate onto plane. Onesingle thud just after I hit the throttle. I wonder if that thud is the sound of the play in the hub. Did you notice if you can also hear an audible thud when you accelerate from idle to on plane by any chance?
@@DandersMcJigger Interesting. I have not heard that thud on mine. Let me know if you find out what is causing that thud.
I have the 50hp efi four stroke Bigfoot. I can see the sleeved filter but it's much lower with some other bundled lines over it. It really looks like i might need to remove the lower cowl to access it. Does that seem right?
@@dkwallisI don’t have any experience with the Bigfoot motors but given they have a longer more robust lower unit, that may be the case.
Great vid. Does doing the service yourself void the factory warranty?
@@onthehill7690 I’m not 100% on this but it’s my understanding that if you keep your receipts and keep a record of the maintenance you performed then your warranty is still good.
Why would you not for the gear oil fill it from the top bolt that was removed? So then you wouldn’t have to quickly reattach the bottom bolt.
You fill from the bottom in order to push the air in there out. If you were to fill from the top, then you wouldn’t get that air out and the lower unit would not be full of oil like it’s supposed to be.
@@RFishingtx Thank you, excellent video!
Do I need to pump the priming bulb after installing a new in line filter?
@stefansimon9366 you can give it a couple squeezes but it’s not necessary.
Yup, everything Mercury/Quicksilver Flo Torq does this. Took a while to figure that out.
How did you widen the charger lead to fit the post?
I just used a file to open it up a bit.
Great video. When you change the spark plugs do you have a tough time removing the bottom plug? That one is always a killer for me with my Bigfoot.
Thanks! They definitely didn’t make it easy to get to them.
Thanks for the video. These are my exact installation thoughts. Looks like a great job. Good looking boat by the way.
Thanks! 👍🏼
Excellent, detailed review, thanks very much! I am considering either the Pro 170 or the Pro Team 175 TXW for a few $grand more. Just wondering if you considered the 175 TXW, or if due to limited storage space you had to go with the Pro 170? Also, do you feel like the extra beam and other features on the 175 TXW are worth the higher price?
@kenb6102 Thanks! I do have limited space in the garage so the 175 would be a bit too tight of a fit. If I wasn’t limited on space and the choice was between the 170 and 175, I would rather spend the extra and get the 175. Even if you do the 175 with the tournament package, you’ll still want to upgrade the electronics and trolling motor at the very least.
I wonder if the ultimate bunk noard are the same as plastic lumber.
All I know is they’re made from High-Density Polyethylene Plastic with a UV inhibitor. So far they have been great.
THANK YOU! I just ordered about a $100 of stuff from Amazon to tackle this but it'll save me $500/yr. in having someone else do it.
Glad to help. 👍🏼
I wanna upgrade to the Terrova as well, but I do not like that support you have I feel like it’s in the way I feel like I would trip on it and it’s one less spot you can step I find myself needing every bit of room I can get on the deck, wondering if there is another way to add support as all that force from bouncing around during transportation is sure to cause some damage, I am looking into something that perhaps attaches to the versa track
That bracket I have is removable. It just slides off the base.
good review and lots to think about considering this one is on my short list
I should probably do another review after all the updates I have done. This little tin boat has actually turned out to be a great boat. It’s been really fun to work on and make upgrades to.

@@McHodgebin Yessir
@@RFishingtx ok thanks. really appreciate you posting this video as it has been driving me nuts. Like many others i'm sure i've taken that prop off multiple times to see if it was on incorrectly. Mercury should put this information on the box.
Does this play include side to side play as well as in out play? Thank you.
It also looks like you missed your high pressure fuel filter
That’s on another video.
Great review...how fast that boat run with just you
Thank you! Usually around 35 mph.
Ive heard there a water pickup filter in the foot. My wanna check that too. I had a evenrude that took a poop on me last week due to a failed thermostat only 50 hrs on the motor destroyed the engine. Just bought a brand new boat with a 6o hp mercury and it will get a thermostat every year.
