Thanks for checking out my video 🙂 Did you enjoy the anime overall? Was it worth the wait? It's been a few years since I've watched it, so I'm a little hazy on some of the details. I remember finding the films a little hit & miss though.

I wouldn't go into it expecting your new favourite show, but it was a nice watch. I struggled a little at first, but it really grew on me! 🙂 I'd love to say this was my triumphant return to reviewing, but it was more of a one-off. I filmed thus video & made all the components 13 months ago. I edited it last week to say if I was ready for a return to editing, but sadly I was not. I felt pretty dizzy for the following week 🙁 I have a few other bits I can post, but we'll see.

@@Michael_Matsuzaka Tbh, the show was pretty successful when it came out. One of my friends just told me that he scored it a 10/10 when it came out. I can't see why though. I enjoyed the show, but it lacked any real wow factor. And no, I'm probably not ready for a serious return to TH-cam. Editing this video gave me a week of vertigo, so I might have another go one day, but I'm taking it slow for now

I don't watch a lot of subbed anime, so this is one of the few subbed anime I've watched in recent years too. It's a great show that I REALLY enjoyed! 🙂 Thanks for checking out my video, and btw, have you seen this show's predecessor 'Please Teacher'? If you haven't, then I highly recommend it. It's a very similar show! 🙂

Waiting in the Summer is as close as you are going to get. The main 2 characters are practically the same as the 2 in Please Teacher. You can just pretend this is an alternate telling of the story 🤣

I dont know why this show was so under-hyped. I guess political mecha isn't really that mainstream? Anime fans seem to be more interested in Isekai nowadays. However, this show did receive the maximum score available when it was reviewed by an English anime magazine. It was also it's UK distributor's first ever Blu-ray release. So, both of those things are a testament to the shows quality. But like you said, anime fans didn't seem to care.

I'll be honest... I think I googled to see what the main influences were, and mentioned the ones that Wikipedia cited. I guess it didn't mention Macross? But yeah, I think there were LOTS of different shows that Nadesico poked fun at... I just couldn't squeeze them all into my review. I like to keep my videos relatively short after all. But I do agree that I should have found room in my video to mention Gekigangar. That was an oversight on my behalf. I guess I just couldn't figure out a way of working it in with the rest of my dialogue. Thank you very much for watching my video though, and I really appreciate your comment. It can be hard getting views when you're starting out on TH-cam, so I really appreciate it when someone uses up their free-time to watch one of my videos! 🙂

This review was pretty much ad-libbed, so I think I forgot a few other egg pubs that appear in the show. Have you seen Mardock Scramble? Did you enjoy it?

Haha, thanks for your comment. I was actually aware that the Nazi's didn't exist in WW1. I was mainly using them to exagerate my point. Plus... they may not be the Nazi's, but it's still kind of like supporting the same side, and that still feels wrong to me 😛 Thanks for watching my video though, and thanks for commenting. @@nicholaspurcell5960 I love it, the character are quite realistic, there's no fanatics in both sides, only soldiers who try to do their job and return home. a lot of underlined themes very intriguing, for instance the way Tanya try to avoid the frontline like a businnesman of modern time will do: instead of opposing the rules she try to exploited a loophole in them, the relation with Being X, she acknoledge his existance but refuse to submit to him, how there is not a clear black or wite moral compass on war. I find this show very intriguing on multiple level.

@@Nicce966 That's cool, I'm glad you found a lot of enjoyment in the show. Both me and my girlfriend really struggled with this Anime, but I get the impression that we were the only ones. It seems like it was a real hit with anime fans across the board. It's funny that you should highlight the characters as a strength, when I considered them the opposite haha. I thought the support cast had potential, but they got so little screen time and dialogue that they failed to shine. That's just my opinion though, and I know others often see things differently! 🙂

I'm honestly not sure. I think I have sworn in my past videos, but I don't tend to be too excessive. I don't want to offend any viewers that don't like swearing after all. Haha, Rural is not a hard word at all. But the transition from Rural to way is a little more difficult. I've tried it a few times since and I still mess it up from time to time 😢

And by the time I started feeling a tiny bit better, I had built up so many message that I decide to leave it until I was ready..... which is now. @@pkapool Yeah, Call of Duty is probably a healthy place to went all that frustration haha. I understand what you mean about your channel. If you're not continually posting new content and interacting with users, TH-cam kind of forgets about you. Have you done AMVs in the past? I didn't think I saw them on your channel before.

This one was a real killer 😞 And yeah, I don't blame you for avoiding this one. I really enjoyed this show, but it really is for a certain type of audience. And like I said....99% of Anime Fans will hate it. My girlfriend is the same. She gets really angry if an anime isn't colourful, whereas I'm kind of the opposite. I like the cold, dark, serious stuff 🙂 For the record.... I made this video back at the start of December and have since bought the manga. I really enjoyed it! 🙂

@@nicholaspurcell5960 I gotcha ^^ I don't mind drab, I mean, Chaos Kyun himself was pretty minimal with color XD These days I watch anime for a sense of refreshment, which usually involves the colorful ones with laughter and Ruby Kurosawa making squeaky noises. ^^ I'm glad you've got something you're thrilled with! Will you be reviewing the manga seperately?

@@Michael_Matsuzaka For me artwork isn't particularly important. I'd rather have good characters or a subject that peaks my interest. But yeah, the colour palette does tend to foreshadow what sort of show you are getting yourself into. Generally if it's a muted palette then chances are the show is going to be pretty grim or serious... which is totally fine with me! 🙂 I'm probably not going to review the manga. I'm not really sure where I would start... also the less I can review atm the better haha. But I would say the manga is a lot more lively than the show. So people that aren't interested in the show's style, should still find something to like in the manga. Do you ever read manga, or is it not your thing?

@@nicholaspurcell5960 Oh okay. I attempted a few, but the only one I've ever finished was Future Diary. I've attempted Assassination Classroom because it was an amazing show, Medaka Box because the anime ended in a very very veery unresolved state, and Tomo-chan is a girl, though I forgot how I got on that one. I have thoroughly contemplated getting in to Happy Sugar Life's manga, as I understand it ends differently and explains the Kobe family situation better (that bunch make no sense to me...). Due to it's content though, I'm saving that for a day I desperately need to feel human.

@@Michael_Matsuzaka How was the Future Diary manga? Did it add much to the show? I don't tend to read too much manga, solely because most of it has too many volumes. And I definitely can't justify paying out for 40+ volumes. However, if there is a shorter manga, I'm always game. I've read a few Junji Ito Horror manga... mostly because they are all standalone stories and don't involve multiple purchases. But yeah... I have considered buying the manga when the show is unresolved. I really wanted Btooom! but that one is now out of print, and one day I dream of reading the whole of Gantz and Berserk.... because those are two of my favourite anime. It's funny you should mention Assassination Classroom the day after Code Geass, because I hold those shows in similar regard. I thought bought shows' first seasons were god-level, but both had disappointing second seasons.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I make one of these videos ever year and I love doing them. Making the templates can be a little work, but thankfully everything else runs really smoothly. I'd definitely recommend doing one of these videos from time to time. They're a lot of fun. I'm glad you agreed with my voting for Anohana. It's a great show, isn't it? I really wanted to give my Top Award to Occultic;Nine, because it was totally my sort of show... but I couldn't ignore Anohana. It was just too good.

Sword of the Stranger was great,b ut it's victory was a bit of a walk in the park due to lack of competition. I enjoyed Batman Ninja and Highlander... but they were average at best. The cat in Castle Town Dandelion was a pretty small part, so he never stood a chance against Tobimaru or the legend that is Babu! haha. I think for last year's Worst Character award I actually nominated half of the cast of Gundam Z. I enjoyed the show, but 50% of the cast were terrible. So sometimes nominees do come from the same place. I do try and spread out the hate though. Yeah, everyone I know seems to like Shiro from Deadman Wonderland. I don't get it personally. The childish personality trope just doesn't work for me. She kind of reminds me of the main girls from A Lull in the Sea and Anohana now I think of it. So I definitely have a sort of character that I don't like haha. Also... I didn't like the english dub casting for her Or Ganta. <3 Anaru <3 You should definitely consider doing an awards thing in the future. The are both easy and fun to make. They don't even have to be annual. A lot of people do seasonal awards etc. As for 'Netoge no Yome', how over the top is it? I've watched trailers for it a few times and it seems like the humour is really loud and over the top. Is that right, or not? It is a show I'm curious about, but at the same time I don't think it will be my thing.

I gotcha, kiddish behavior isn't everyone's thing ^_^ Hmmm... maybe if my vtuber model isn't done by the time I'm done with Maid-Sama, I could do a 'most notable anime since I started reviewing', something like that? It's been long enough that I'm not sure about that. It's different from others, but I wouldn't blame you if Netoge no Yome doesn't get a place in next year's oscars ^^

@@Michael_Matsuzaka Sorry for the slow reply. I've been having A LOT of migraines this year. So I haven't vbeen able to get anywhere near my PC... or even watch any anime! 😢 Well if you do your own awards, or how you choose to do them, is all up to you. I just like suggesting the idea, because I like to see what people are choosing, and I think they are fun videos to make. It would also be interested to see what you do differently to me in ways of format. How is the Vtuber model coming along? any closer to debut? Well I'll be honest, Netoge no Yome isn't super high on my list of shows to watch this year. But I did sign up to Funimation this month and it is on there. So I have added it to my watch list. So who knows... I may get to it by the end of the year! I have some big hitters to deal with first though! 🙂

My artist is on the rigging process and the wait is making me crazy (I've conceptualized like ten character songs for Michael Matsuzaka lol). @@devinh.72 It's an interesting idea you have there! And you've clearly given it a lot of thought! 🙂 Have you given much consideration to who your villains are going to be? Or was that list made up of both heroes and villains? Thankfully, I have seen a few more of those shows now that you have extended your list. The show is completely average.... or middle of the road, as I referred to it in my video 😛 But I don't think it hurts to enjoy an average show from time to time 🙂 I definitely think this was a wasted oppurtunity though, as the show had the potential to be something great, or at least something very different. So it's a shame that it wasn't. That being said, as much as I thought Sankarea was average, It did amaze me how much I smiled when I was collecting footage for my video. There are plenty of good scenes and character moments! 🙂

Did you actually finish the original Clannad? I thought you'd only seen the first half of it. Yeah, I'm definitely a lot more confident now and have way more skills when it comes to video editing. But this was an okay first effort! And tbh, trying to do the whole thing unscripted was probably a bad choice. I think that's the only reason I do better today.... because I have a script and I film in short segments. Well I look forward to seeing your first value pack video. But I warn you... it's surprisingly hard trying to keep reviews short.

@@Michael_Matsuzaka I'll be interested to see what you think of After Story when you get around to watching it. Me and my anime fans quite often argue about whether Clannad is better than After Story or not. I personally prefer the original, but I do feel that After Story helps to grow the franchise. Yeah, I'm doing okay... I think 😛I have a habit of using "..." when typing. I've been using it since I was a kid. Nothing to read into there. Although I think Christmas, work and a load of backed up videos is probably getting me a little stressed out. There's a big anime sale tomorrow. I honestly had no idea that Gonzo had attempted to make an OVA in 2005. That's a really interesting piece of information. Shame I didn't have chance to work it into my video 😞 Gonzo were definitely at the height of their powers in the mid-noughties, so it could have been one hellova pairing! ❤❤❤

Yeah, silly comment really. Everyone likes cats and boobies 🙂 Although the latter can definitely lower the quality of an anime. Oh.... you can't tell me that I should watch a show, but then tell me that I'm not allowed to research it! I need to know what it's about now! 🙁 I put A LOT more effort into this review than I do with my normal videos, so thanks for saying that it was good. I really appreciate that. As for the robot voice, I was just trying it out because I wanted something to go with my title screens. I'm always looking out for the next upgrade to my format. I'm not sure if it worked though. I'm Going to use it a few more times, then decide if it stays or not. What did you think? Are you a fan or not?

@@nicholaspurcell5960 I did a review of Gakkou Gurashi if you want, but I watched it blind and I sincerely believe that's the best way to watch it. Still good if you have a spoiler or two though ^^ Yeah, I know what it's like to find and cut out a bunch of one second moments from various episodes ^^ I think it's an improvement so the title screens aren't just silent, but I wouldn't call it your new mascot either if that makes sense.

@@Michael_Matsuzaka Is Gakkou Gurashi actually good? Or are you just trying to convince me into watching something that is messed up? 😛 There is actually a dvd/blu-ray release.... So maybe I will check it out. Apparently it's english name is School-Live. I had the DVD of Sankarea, so that gave me waaaay more clips to work with. I feel much more satisfied with my videos when I can insert extra clips 🙂 This video also gave me an idea for a new series of videos. At the end of the video, you hear me do a Babu impression. I thought if I could get enough interested participants I could do a compilation video of a few people having a go. Then do a different character/clip next time. Yeah, I'm not sure about the robot voice. It's an upgrade on the silence, but it's not quite right. Maybe I'll use a different robot voice for the next video.

I don't even have the heart to suggest Happy Sugar Life (Genuinely good, the one thing that makes me cry, also extremely extremely EXTREMELY messed up). I noticed it was there a long time ago, but I put I was putting it off until I'd seen the show. Don't want spoilers after all! 😛 For me, personally, I wouldn't have said the show was being 'overly' macho... apart from when Yuri gets his gear removed. But that's just my opinion. I'm expecting to pay 45 usd or more on the new avatar, I bought a new microphone for 25 usd, a new computer for $399 (webcam built in). I may have to pay another 10-15 to use vtube studio with no water mark later on, but I'll probably just keep it for now because I'm about to surpass my budget and later I do want to commission a custom backkground which I anticipate to be 20 or more, and if that helps than a 3d background later for a price I dare not contemplate at this stage. I also need to buy new music eventually. I know foxsynergy was fine with people just using their stuff so long as due credit was given (though I think they posted Chaos Castle... ten years ago on opengameart?). I'm also anticipating spending another 200 usd to buy a device to let me stream from my consoles eventually @_@ So yeah if you want to be a vtuber, make sure it's because you want to be a vtuber lol. There be commitment involved :) I'll take that ^_^

And well, if I'm definitely going to watch a show, then I want to know as little about it as possible! 🙂 Like I said, you've done a few videos on shows that I've already bought the dvd/blu-rays for but haven't watched yet, so I'm avoiding those reviews for now. And as for a new computer and microphone... those things probably would have been on the cards eventually anyway, even if you didn't become a VTuber. All in all, it sounds perfectly fine. Far too much for a cheapskate like me. But fine for everyone else 😛 Any idea when you should be getting your character design? Did you give the artist many specifics on how you wanted the character?

@@Michael_Matsuzaka Haha, don't worry, I finished Sankarea last week. So I'm fully aware of what things you are talking about. My girlfriend bought it on sale, and let's just say that we were both surprised by that series haha. Mad scientist, eh? I hope you don't get too disappointed when he just gives you a picture of Rintaro Okabe with a new hat on! 😛 So it's just the waiting game now, is it? It seems so bizarre to me. You think there would be a lot of communication and back and forth with this sort of thing.

To be honest, my girlfriend and I appear to be the only people that don't like this show, so maybe you shouldn't hold my opinion in too higher regard. I completely agree. The most important thing in anime are the characters! That being said, this show doesn't have good characters OR a good story. Really? Was the timing on my clips really that far out? I've rewatched the video 2 or 3 times and everything seems to be in order. My timing wasn't 100% perfect because of a re-edit, but we are only talking milli-seconds. Although I agree that the Watamote clip is furthest out. But yet again, only by 1 second at most. Tbh... I'm not 100% happy with this video. I think the purposes section dragged on too long and messed with my formula far too much. Oh well, making videos is all about learning. Hopefully I will do better next time. And like you said, at least I got lots of views! 🙂

@@Michael_Matsuzaka God choice on avoiding the show. Some of my friends have been rather critical of my review, but I can't lie; I seriously don't get why this show is popular. That's what I was trying to get across in my purposes section. This show ticks so little boxes that its bizarre. But yet again, not entirely bad... more wasted potential. Glad to hear that my video wasn't synced wrong. I had watched it 2 or 3 times, so I was surprised when you mentioned it.

Unfortunately, it seems that most anime fans only care about what came out this season, and don't give a shit about about older shows like Mardock Scramble. Which is a shame, because there are so many classic shows that are left unloved 😞 I didn't realise that no one else had reviewed this show other than me though. Sorry, but the legend status is now TH-cam official. That means it's set in stone! 😛 Personally, I don't think you would like this show that much. I love Lupin, but part 4 is pretty average. Over the last year, I have reviewed a lot better shows than this one. And yeah, 30 years is a big gap. Like I said in the video, the Lupin franchise tends to focus on films and specials. So it's not exactly been 30 years of radio silence.

To be honest, I think the Lupin movies and specials are probably better than the series'. I enjoyed Castle of Cagliostro and Secret of Mamo the best. Although there is a lot of praise out there for A WOMAN CALLED FUJIKO MINE. Which is a spin-off series. I am a little behind the times though. It may have taken 30 years to do part 4, but I think they have already made part 5 & 6.

@@nicholaspurcell5960 I mess with the settings in the most advanced video editor I can get a hold of, try to find excuses to try them all out. That and I like to listen to music and imagine if the song went with something, like a music video, but more in the style of Anime Music Videos (AMVs for the viewers at home). But I'm not really that much into anime, so it would include live action American movies, TV shows, etc. There are some really amazing editors I've come across on youtube who will probably be inspiration for me once I start to get into things. I just bought some $15 editing software (in addition to the collection I already have) and downloaded some programs to my phone to try out. I've saved a list of ideas here and there so I'll try to go through those and ask questions from people on discord. (I would ask on reddit, but account got banned because I know a guy who called out child abuse on there)

@@youtubedj9298 That's kool. I must admit that my video editor is pretty limited with it's effects, hence me barely using any. But it would be cool to see what you come up with. I may even be asking for some advice if one of your videos has an effecct I like 😛 My girlfriend is really into watching AMV's at the moment. Some of them look super complicated to make. I completely agree with you about the soundtrack, its really beautiful. I'm completely in love with the opening theme 'voices'. Its amazing! Yoko Kanno truly is a musical genius. Have you watched 'Kids on the Slope'? Her jazz soundtrack for that show was fantastic! 🙂

Yep. Whoever made Top Gun Maverick saw Macross Plus. Too many similarities. And the last dog fight. You don’t see battle scenes like that in fighter jet movies

One I randomly found on Tubi and I'm pleased to say I'm going to give high praise to this one. The two lead characters are the most human I've seen in some time (though many other characters struggle with that), the art is beautiful like something out of Ghibli studios, the lead girl is a good bean, the lead guy has a relatable point. I'd love to say "it's like this other anime" but I can't think of a comparison! XD

@@Michael_Matsuzaka Yeah, sometimes our instincts let us down. Mine are normally pretty good, so I don't tend to watch many sub-par shows. But even I am fooled from time to time! B: The Beginning was a major faux pas on my behalf! A Lull in the Sea is a fantastic show. Good Choice! I watched that one last year and really enjoyed it. In fact... I think Miuna won My Anime Oscar last year for Best Female Character. I did love A Lull in the Sea, but the main characters didn't really do it for me. I really liked Chisaki in the first half of the show and then Miuna in the second half of the show. Ironically, I have the perfect comparison to A Lull in the Sea, and that's Anohana. In my Anohana review I pointed out lots of similarities between the two shows. I believe Anohana was the show that I recommended to you when we were talking about crying over anime haha. So if you like A Lull in the Sea, then I'm glad I got your taste pretty spot on! 🙂

Unfortunately, if they are set to Private, then you can't find out no matter what.... which is weird. Publicity is hard. Do you know how you managed to get up to 64 subscribers? Is there any secret? I put a little bit more work into my channel tonight. I have given my channel a banner. I have added a subscribe button that appears after 2 minutes of all videos. I have also made an end card.... although I won't be using that for another few videos yet. I do also need to work on changing my display photo, and possibly my channel name. Yeah, the show was definitely up and down. The girl on girl action seemed a little out of nowhere and was completely unnecessary. It's changes like that which are always going to annoy hardcore fans. I don't think the show was entirely bad though.

I definitely struggled with this show at time, but tbh, Isekai isn't really my sort of thing. I'm an old skool anime fan, so I prefer sci-fi and Cyber Punk to Fantasy. But yes.... Rory was a great character. Definitely earned the show a few extra points! <3 <3 <3 Btw... sorry for the slow reply. I never read the manga, but really wish I had. Gantz is the ultimate concept. I would love to watch/read more and know more about the universe. Gantz 0 was ace! I wish they'd do the whole story in that style! 🙂
