Pistol Mounted Red Dot Sights Installation, Maintenance and Tips
Just taking a few minutes to talk about Red Dot Sight (RDS) installation, maintenance and a few other tips. There are endless hours of content that talk the specifics of all the RDSs on the market. I'm partial to the Trijicon RMR and SRO, but also use the Leupold Deltapoint Pro, Aimpoint Acro P2 and Holosun 507Comp. All good options and some that I like better than others. Proper installation is critical. Make sure to use the correct screws and USE A TORQUE WRENCH. I now treat all screws as a consumable. If they come off the gun, they go in the trash.

Steel Challenge "Showdown"

One of my favorite Steel Challenge stages. I like to position towards the inside of the box, I shoot 3 strings from the left and 2 from the right boxes and shoot left to right from the left box and right to left from the right box.

If you've never participated in a shooting competition, Steel Challenge is a great way to get started. @TheUSPSA is the parent organization for Steel Challenge Shooting Association and matches are held all over the country. There are 8 stages that, if set up correctly, are the same no matter where you shoot. There is also a classification system that allows you to compete against similarly skil...
Volquartsen Black Mamba

Got a screaming deal on a @volquartsencustom Black Mamba 4.5" 22/45. Pretty big upgrade from my @RugerFirearms MK IV 22/45 Lite (but it's a good gun too). Although I don't have that many rounds through the Black Mamba yet, it shoots well and seems very reliable. I put a @LeupoldOptics Delta Point Pro on it and so far am pretty happy with the performance. Subscribe to the channel and leave me a ...
Ruger SFAR

Quick overview of the @RugerFirearms SFAR .308 rifle. Great option for a lightweight AR style .308/6.5CM. I was pretty amazed at how this rifle felt the first time I picked one up. Feels much more like an AR15 than an AR10. Ruger did a great job cutting down on size and weight.
Blackhawk T Series Holster
มุมมอง 2.6K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
The @BlackhawkTacticalUSA T Series holster line is a good option if you are looking for a holster with active retention. No doubt this is a better design than the older Serpa line of holsters because it uses your thumb to disengage the locking mechanism vs your trigger finger. I specifically purchased the T2C model for my @GlockIncSmyrna G19 to use in Run and Gun style competitions. I wanted to...
Walther PDP Compact 4" - Love this Gun!
มุมมอง 9K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've been shooting the @Waltherarms PDP Compact 4" for around 6 months now. Really like the gun and it's enjoyable to shoot. I have somewhere around 5000 rounds through it with zero malfunctions. Although I still choose my @GlockIncSmyrna 19 as my EDC, the PDP is a close second. It's overall slightly larger than the Glock and not quite as easy for me to conceal. I've shot the gun primarily in S...

20 inch shooting Hornady Black 168gr A-max runs good and does 1” to 1 1/4” three shot groups, running on setting 2. I hunt with mine so three shot groups is all I need to see. I have about 70 rounds through it. REM 150 CL was at about 2 1/2”, Hornady Whitetail 150 was about the same. Rifle Line 150 about 3”. All three shot groups at 100 yards. I have more ammo coming to test. I did put in an H2 buffer to see if there was any difference and it may be just a tad smoother, seems like it. Also adding a CMC trigger and then I think it will be perfect for me. It’s gonna do a number on hogs and deer. 😬
i have to do this in a swampy forest and its worked great. I wish i had a range like this. looks very professional.
Thanks. It’s a continuous work in progress. Always trying to make it a bit better.
im suprised it cannot cycle sub sonic as well. i have an hp22a that cycles anything i put into it. im looking to buy a mamba either way but i gotta find the fix for it to work subsonic
It was just that one load of segmented hollow points that didn’t run 100%. Must just be a little too light. Other subsonic loads have been fine.
@@sheepdogmarksmanship thanks for the info that's good to know
Just ordered my SFAR, waiting for it to ship from Buds, I've watched wayyyy too many SFAR YT videos, appreciate your concise comments and range video. I gotta go suppressed once I get it here in Florida like most shooting enthusiast I've watched. Great shooting table, then I saw your sitting on taped cardboard, now that funny!
🤣 yes that bench is pretty great but longer magazines make the gun sit too high up and I need a booster seat! It’s what I had available! Glad you liked the video. My SFAR continues to perform well
try the steel frame version
I have and it’s awesome. Just haven’t spent the money on one yet.
What was the twist rate on your barrel?
For that test, I was using a 1:8 barrel. I’m mostly using a 1:7 today. No real change in accuracy of the ammo, but went to a lighter weight barrel.
Is it hearing safe? I have a Dead Air Wolfman and am looking at a PC Charger
It is with 147gr
Bubble literally came out are you dumb?
Still the best rig for running?
I use the Phlster Enigma now. Have another video on it. Honestly, I like it much better. Cooler and conceals better
What am I doing wrong with this belly band? The grip sticks out far and not only prints like crazy, but my shirt gets caught on the protruding grip while trying to drawer
Hard to say without looking at it, but try moving your setup up/down and left/right on your body. Everyone is different and it does take some adjusting.
That shit prints heavy. Trail run, sure. Run through urban? Idk might as well just use a chest rig and pretend you’re only carrying a phone in it.
Keep in mind I’m running and the shirt holds close to me. Everyone gets spun up about printing, but ask yourself how many times you’ve actually noticed someone carrying because they were printing. My opinion, nobody notices because they aren’t looking and whatever printing exists is minimal.
I don’t disagree with what you are saying. Unfortunately, I live in a very liberal area, so I basically have to treat it as a non-permissive environment. The threat of some kids making the print and jumping me for it is pretty high. But that’s what my situational awareness is for. I’ve definitely noticed some people printing. But they would always wear some overt gun owner shirt that made me look at them first.
@@x.x.x.x.x.0.0totally understand. Fortunately in Texas there is no legal consequence for printing since we have open carry as well. Regardless, I always carry concealed and don’t want anyone to know I’m carrying. I make every effort avoid printing.
get the thicker Magpul butt stock pad. It helps a lot with felt recoil. 175 grain ammo seems to work best with mine. 150 grain just runs way too hard on setting 2.
Great review. I am looking for a belly band. Thanke to your video. I think I found the best. At least for me. I am small. 5-8" printing and rapid access are 2 big deals for me, as well as negligent discharge. I appendix carry, & can not afford a negligent discharge. None of us can.-Thank you-Take care.Lets pray we never have to use these in a real life situation.
Thanks for the review. Appreciate you showing retention. That is what I was most concerned about. Seems to be solid enough for sure.
It’s good, but I’ve primarily switched to the Phlster Enigma for running. More comfortable for me and cooler.
I think that one would need to have several more groups to give a higher confidence interval than just 2 groups per ammo types.
Understand and a valid concern. I’ve continued to have good results with the IMI though. I’ll continue to use it.
Yup!
Great video- Thanks! I did everything you did and the trigger pull is better, but still not good enough. I'm going to go back and do a better job polishing and see how that works.
My ONLY issue with the belt is that the area behind the holster isn't big enough to keep the grip off my skin. If/when they ever remedy that, I'm buyin one FOR SURE! 😉
Check out the Phlster Enigma. It’s what I run with all the time now. You’ll have the same concern with the grip against your body though.
Nice job. That’s a fun stage and one you can really shave time.
Thanks. I’ve changed my footwork a bit and it’s much more efficient. Shot a 12.01 at my last match.
Awesome review. I if I get one will I be able to run 3 miles, too?
I e been running with it for about a year now and all is good. I did remove the leg leash a while back because found it unnecessary.
When i first tried this ammo from IMI, it was a few years ago, and it consistently tested 100-200fps slower than Black Hills, and the Corbon MPR that they used to make back in the day(both with TMKs.) My friend ended up shooting my chrono at 300yds with an M1A(despite me telling him not to, as he's not really a big "gun guy" or regular shooter) so I can't test it myself, but it would appear that the two are very similar based on your experience. Also, what was the barrel length on your rifle, and which can? I dont know if its my chamber, or my can(OSS 556K), or what, but my go to rifle, which is only 12.5", would consistently provide velocities of just over 2700fps(like 2710 maybe.) The suppressor adds 40-55fps for me.
I was shooting through a 16” barrel and Surefire can.
I have both the Blackhawk stache nacho is much better.
I no longer use this. I run with the Phlster Enigma only now. My ch better
I was considering the Enigma is it better than the Nacho?
Buying a 4inch tomorrow…any good threaded barrels for this set up?
I don’t have one, but I’d probably just buy the one from Walter.
It’s a fine pistol but not as good as the PPQ that it replaced … so I’m a bit confused.
Pdp is just sooo much better
Dammmn, cant wait for mine to show up :)
I just got approval after week and half or so
It’s awesome

Having not held one in my hands yet, I'm not entirely convinced that this is the best method for utilizing the thumb release system. I'm sure it's fine for competition shooting, but to use it for what it is intended for... having an extra layer of retention to prevent someone else from taking your gun... the way this system works seems to me that it would be far too easy for someone to disengage that thumb lock without even intending to do so. Their thumb falls right where it needs to be, and their natural instinct would be to squeeze their fingers around the grip, meaning it's very likely their thumb will activate that release without even knowing it's there. I'd like to see some testing done with it, to see how effective it really is in that regard. At least with the push-down versions, you have to make a dilberate action to release the mechanism. That feels more secure to me than this method. 5.11 used to offer a thumb release holster made by Blade Tech that had the push down system. I have a pair of those and they work great, similar construction to this one. Unfortunately they don't appear to make those anymore. Fobus has a similar push down thumb release holster that they still make, but it's only available for Glocks. I'm a fan of the level II thumb release holsters in general, I like seeing more offerings available. I'm just not sold on this design yet.
By cutting the spring you didn’t make it lighter. You made it heavier. Think about it. The only thing you should have done is polish the hammer and sear. If the contact point is smoother the hammer will just slide like butter on the sear. That will in turn lighten the trigger pull.
I’d need to see the math on that. I’d certainly agree that cutting springs down is not the preferred option by any means, but considering I didn’t have a lighter replacement main spring on hand, that was the route I chose to go. Cutting springs has long been a way to reduce trigger pull weights. In this case, the effect was probably negligible with as little as I removed, but it should reduce upward pressure on the hammer strut/hammer and therefore less engagement pressure between the hammer and sear. What am I missing?
Great setup with the DPP.. I think that is what I will go with on my PDP.. I see you have a holster for it where do you recommend getting a nice kydex at?
I have a Comp-Tac holster for it. Believe it’s this one: www.comp-tac.com/international-tactical-colors It’s a good holster, but I did add a Bladetech Tek Lok belt attachment for easy on/easy off my belt
I just got mine last Sunday and I have been looking everywhere for that key for the gas regulator but I never thought checking inside the dam grip. Thanks for that!!! I was about to go tomorrow and buy one 😂
Glad you found it! I still really like this rifle!
Dude I got mine at Christmas and couldn’t find that Allen wrench in the box anywhere and I was so pissed at Ruger thinking they forgot to give me one. I started to call them but just ordered one instead and then happened to open the bottom of the grip and found it lol. At least I got a spare in case I lose one I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Went on Amazon. They only sell the belt NOT the holster
I ordered my direct from the manufacturer
Sgammo better priced
I’ve bought a lot from SG, but they were more at the time I made this video. They’ve always shipped fast, but I feel their prices are not as good as they used to be. I’ve found a number of other options that beat their prices (with free shipping), especially if there’s a special deal. SG Ammo is a solid option
Sh*+! That's quiet!
Pretty sweet
Great setup if you don't have a larger body type. Maxim stretched length they offer is 47". My belly is 44, I wasn't comfortable to only have 3" to go over and secure the holster. I ordered a modular holster for my 43x and tried with my existing Comort Tac belly band which is longer and it works great. I did however sew a couple of pieces of 4" velcro in places to position it how I wanted it
I wonder if you have to clean the band/holster often and what that looks like. Is it just let dry and wipe with a wipe or somthing? I imagine running you get it salty and such.
I really haven’t had to clean the belt. I wipe the holster off when I finish. I’ve put a lot of miles on it and it doesn’t stink or anything. I do however, immediately unload my gun and wipe it down.
I was looking for a velcro backed holster and I ended up buying the whole kit because the prices of the kit is close to the price of most stand alone holsters.
Polishing the contact points reduced my pull weight from about 5.5 to 4.5 lbs. No changes done to the springs except for repositioning the magazine disconnect spring to disable it. Most noticeable improvement is that formerly gritty trigger is now smooth, and I got to learn more about my gun. Nice video
Glad it helped.
Not to mention it also feels top heavy as well
What gun are you using?

@@sheepdogmarksmanship glock 43x
@@keithtincher7223 I would definitely give them a call. I’ve had no problems with mine, but I also switched over to the Phlster enigma as my primary run set up.
Well I sent this holster back today, just couldn't get it to work for me..when trying to draw the gun it would not come out..on the 3rd time it came out along with pulling the band up..I might be wrong but I think the holster had to much retention..not sure what else it could've been
I just received this holster yesterday..when you draw it looks as if the gun comes out easy.mine does not, either it doesnt come out or it will pull the band up as well..is there a break in time on the kydex holster?any suggestions?
I’m running a Glock 43 in their holster and it does come out easily. Since it does not have adjustable tension screws there’s really not a way to adjust how tightly the gun is held by the holster. Perhaps they sent you one that’s slightly out of spec? You may want to call and see what they suggest.
Nice. Very pleased with my 16". 300+ rounds only 1 time it didn't hold open on last shot with M80 on setting #2. Otherwise no issues. Very good accuracy with everything respectively. Thank you.
Glad to hear you’re as happy as I am. Great purchase.
The rumor is that the 20” rifles were not affected just the shorties.
My replies seem to keep getting deleted…I put more rounds through mine last week and it still runs flawlessly. Very pleased with the performance.
Excellent video - thank you for posting. I'm wondering if you've seen the VNSH holster belly band and have any thought on a comparison between the two?
I have not used or tried that one. I have become a big fan of the Phlster Enigma though. It works great for me while running.
Can anyone recommend size?im a i wear 34 in jeans..would medium work or should i go with a large?
I’d go with the large. I’m same size and got the medium. It’s a little smaller than I’d like. Also, depending on your use, take a look at the Phlster Enigma. I run with it exclusively now.
@sheepdogmarksmanship was the medium to little?and did the large fit fine?
I never switched to the larger size. The medium had enough Velcro to fit, but no extra room. Large would have been a little more flexible for different guns.
Great review señor, thank you.
They are still the two red dots I use the most. I think I have 3 of each. I also finally picked up a SRO, but haven’t mounted it yet.
I’m in Texas, so I understand the heat. It wouldn’t be bad for short trips to the store and such, but I wouldn’t want to wear it all day.
The nice thing is, you don’t have to adapt to anything just because someone else has a preference. Like you point out with vehicles, we have many options with handgun design. I’m more than capable of effectively using a paddle style mag release, but my preference is a more traditional, by today’s standards, button release next to the dominant thumb. Personally, I find it far more efficient and facilitates maintaining a better grip while changing magazines. It’s great that we have so many options where the individual can find. What works best for them.
You must keep in mind SFAR rifles have many reliability issues..?.if you have the time and the money fill your boots.
I’ve certainly read and heard about problems with the earlier ones. Mine has run flawlessly. I definitely look at new gun designs in the same manner as new vehicles. I don’t buy the first model year. Often times there are bugs that get worked out. I also feel that any of the big manufacturers are going to stand by their product. It’s only in their best interest to do so. If people still are having trouble, I would certainly send it back to Ruger.
They should have kept the paddle release like the PPQ. I love my PPS V1.
I’m always faster with a button mag release.
@@sheepdogmarksmanshipno way son!!! You a rook you don't have to move your hand at all you use your middle finger to finger it 😂 nobs
I’d love to see how you use your middle finger to hit a paddle mag release without completely breaking your grip on the gun. Trigger finger, yes, but not middle. I know it’s different than on my HK VP9, but can’t imagine using my middle finger.
German police have done just fine for years with a paddle release. People drive a stick shift in Europe while sitting ion the right. Paddle shift cars work fine instead of stick shift. KTM motorcycles of the 80s had the shifter on the right. Adapt and overcome. I have large hands so the paddle release suits me fine. It’s a fit for me.
Mine won't fully run on setting 2, I'm at 140 rounds through it, at 200 rounds, setting 2 better work, or ruger here it is, fix it
I still don’t have enough rounds through mine, but what I have shot all cycled fine. Hope yours does as well.
16 inch, Gen 2 gas block valve and runs great now !
What a beaut
Even better with a RDS!
