About 15 years ago Alain Dangerfield was introduced to The Black Men's Group. Back then, Dangerfield helped the group organize the annual golf tournament fundraiser and started adding to The Diablo Black Men's Group's marketing outreach. Over the years, Dangerfield's efforts have resulted in increases in the funds raised and the number of scholarships awarded, as well as the development of a summer internship program for the students The Black Men's Group supports.
The Black Men's Group is a nonprofit that provides college scholarships to African American students in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

On December 12, 2024, Diablo magazine and the East Bay Leadership Council, along with event sponsors and the East Bay community, gathered at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek to celebrate the 2024 Threads of Hope honorees and to hear their stories live.
