just to let you know I tethered between hammered-in copper sheet metal vs black rippled sheet rock. Black rippled sheet rock is the clear winner.

Powerline adapters will only work if the adepter is on the same electrical circuit in the other room,meaning that one side is plugged into a power point located near the router and the other adapter is connected a power point where you want the Ethernet connection has to be on the same electrical circuit.
