I would like to have seen how you designed and engineered those front bogey wheels and you needed them only on the front and not the back too. Looks like you did it right with heavy duty construction, automotive type spindles and high speed bearings. Most people don't do those things

I hopped this freight several time 1989-91 and rode from Willits to Ferndale. Got caught on an open flat car one winter and almost froze to death 10 hours exposed to the elements with sections of track floating over the rail bed that was washed out.

I was on one of the last trains to run it in thr winter of 1983 out of LA to Chicago. I was in a sleeper car . Outside was about 30 below zero ,full moon at night Moose ,elk eagles all still from the cold Much of the that portion of the trip was 20 mph or less.We had a lay over at small town .Id loved to explore but didnt want to miss my train.I held my sleepy eyes open until through tunnel was huge and full of zigzags then woke the train running full tilt on the flat lands

In some areas old rail beds are being turned into bike trails. And technically the is trespassing.

This is a great video that I have watched a couple of times before. It really would be nice to redo the ride with the new video equipment with fuzzy logic and HD. I don't know if it's possible but if so it would surely be worth the while. Thanks for sharing.

I remember travelling through that area with my family as a kid in the 70's, swimming in the Eel River and spending the night in a nice motel in Willits.

The State of California should had purchased in fee easements across all private properties and converted the NWPRR into an ecogroovy bike path from Eureka to Willits. Turn maintenance over to Caltrans. Turn the patrol and care of primitive bikepacking camps over to the State Parks. It could be a fantastic bikepath.
