LET 'ER EAT!! Back to the basics. Old School power tuning!
Will it run better? Super tuning a 223 Ford six cylinder for maximum tire shredding power.... or something like that. This week the crew wraps up the 61 Ford project attempting to squeeze a few more HP's outta this old work horse before hesitantly handing the keys back to its proud owner. Tune in to see the results!

I would love to see it through to the end myself I like watching stuff like that
Id sure love to get this one done! We'll be back on it soon!
I was taught to go with the readings from a vacuum gage compared to a timing light and to set the points with a dwell meter instead of a feeler gage. When all else fails, the ear and a matchbook cover would do just nicely!
Yea buddy! Thats old school right there! Lost art aint it? Its weird how something so basic is so complicated to the newer generation... If it aint got someplace to plug in a scanner, its hopeless anymore! lol
Love that truck
Right! Tellin ya right now.. If a truck could run for president, this thing would win the popular vote hands down! Everyone loves this thing.... Think you like it now, you should drive it! Amazing truck!
🖐😊👍✌
Hope your keeping warm woman, thanks for dropping in, appreciate ya as always.
If I owned that truck. It would immediately get a 302 and a 5 speed. Same gas mileage more power and sound better. The best thing about any old 6 banger is the sound it makes when it hits the bottom of the dumpster. 😂😂😂
Ouch!!! Dang Buddy that old 223 got feelins ya know! haha I agree but disagree. I think every engine has its own character as do the vehicles they are in. This 223 and this f250 are a match made in Heaven in my book! Also think we may have painted that old 6 banger in the wrong light because the old proving grounds outside the shop is a pretty big hill..steeper than it looks on video; and from a dead start at the bottom and half throttle to boot, this old lump of iron didn't do half bad. Make no mistake, this old mill runs REALLY good. Point was we didnt have a baseline to know how much they put out. We were just givin it a last minute polishin before the owner grabbed it up. Now he's a gear head and a hot rodder...and a FORD guy with a pretty spicey Cleveland powered Mustang. He knows how to make them get there in a hurry. Thats just not the purpose of this old Ford... This thing is a trip back in time.. to the way things used to be... the way things need to be again. No drag racer by far this old F250 but I know if I ever need any stumps pulled, I know who to call!
I'm glad not everyone shares your point of view. Don't get me wrong. I like to have a good small block. But we gotta keep some of them, the way they were, there aren't to many of these old rigs out there. And this one just seemed like a good one to keep old skool. I'm not adding power steering or changing the suspension geometry. I'm keeping her the way she always was. If you ever get to pilot one of these old rigs in it's natural state.... maybe then you would understand. It's all about the journey. Not how fast you get there. 👍
@@kengarletts6625 I’ve had several. Right now I’m playing with a couple 74 f100”s. 1 2wd and 1 that’s 4wd. Both have 390”s. Real 390”s. The stroke has been measured.
Nice old truck and your good at what you do 👍🏻
Yea that old truck is something special to our area, our channel, and our family and friends. When they say they dont make them like that anymore, this truck is what they are referring to! Thanks for watching!
Oh, yeah... would someone please help Chevelle. She's having a hard time with her blanket.
She has a hard time getting comfortable in her old age but she sure didn't wanna get outta that old F250!
Yeah. I noticed. Lol. Leave her in there. I'll take her with.
Haha she would go too!
I hope to see more of that truck
Everyone loves that old truck. Us included. I honestly think it would make a guy a fortune if he could sell rides around the mountain in it... Smooth as silk... Its seriously perfect.
Great Video. I never expected a race truck. But that's a pretty nice hill coming away from your shop. If your hitting 30 at half throttle... your doing pretty good. She ain't no Cleveland or Hemi. Good enough is good enough. 👍
Oh its beyond good enough. Although a VERY small cubic inch, Its perfect. It may be hard to see how steep that hill is in video and the fact that we start right at the bottom may be missed too. Its really good to use for seat of the pants tuning though. If your trying to get that little bit of extra grunt, that's where to get it! Until your truck and Poncho I was never experienced with the 223. I gotta tell ya, two thumbs up for the design and reliability. One of the best engines I've wrenched on...and thats from a Mopar guy! If they made a 300 inch version of that engine, it would be legendary.
They weren't power houses by any means. The low gears make up for that. But they have always been steady. They are a work horse. Not a thoroughbred race horse. And weren't meant to be a show pony..... but mine is now. 👍
That it is. Again.. hard to say this being a Mopar guy.. but I bet it would pull a car trailer every bit as good as our old 87 318 ram truck.. Had to get a run for the hills but drug a lot of junkers home with it. I can Guarantee that old 318 wouldn't look as good inside as that 223 did even being half its age. Very stout engines those 223's
Here we go again lol im here for the ride buddy 👍
Thanks for stoppin by, you know we gotta keep it real!
nice
Thanks Man, we had fun with this one! Gonna stink watching this one leave!
Thanks for another , Guys !🛻💨
Thanks!!! We sure appreciate you watchin!
Another great video guys.
Thanks Buddy! It was something short.. we wanted to wrench on this old F250 one more time before we had to let it go back. Hands down the best all around total package old Ford. Gonna miss this one too like that old Willys.
@@HustlehousePA1978 I should go out dig the snow off and do a cold start. Lol Then check the 4x4 out.
Yea! We should do the same with that old Bronco and meet up to do some drift bustin before spring!
If I had to guess about why Mopar made that engine lay over to the side. Would be to get a taller stroke. ? Help a brother out.
Hey Man! Yep that's the story. When they get tall just lay them on their side. That was all fine and dandy but put the dist in a crappy spot. No fun adjustin the old points in the old leanin tower of power!
@HustlehousePA1978 I'm a big fan of electronic ign. Hiding inside the oem looking cap. ( petronicts) i think is the brand .. but when setting timing i always use a vacuum Guage and then get my wife to power break it as I tweek it. Once the tires break loose lock it down or she let's the brake go and wait for ambulance. Lmao And for my harley, 100 percent fuel injection.
Hahaha yea keep your toes outta the treads! Yea its hard to beat. I like stuff original but if there is a modern upgrade that's acceptable in old stuff, its an electronic ignition upgrade.
Hi 👋
Hey there! Thanks for stoppin by! Hows it goin in AZ!? Hope you enjoy the video!
Wow that's cool as hell yeah man 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎 😎
Thanks Man! Awesome old Ford. Ran awesome to begin with but why not try for a little more right!?
Try putting a Chevy engine in it. Lol
Hahaha well... Nah this old Ford Is already the total package. Good looks and smooth sailing. Hope nobody is misled... although this old truck isn't gonna win any races, It could move a mountain in old Granny low! As far as a Ford with a Chevy engine.. We have a 56 on the channel with a sbc that we will be working on soon. Stay tuned! Thanks for stoppin by!
@@HustlehousePA1978 I’m just joking of course. I wouldn’t do anything different. The older I get the more I’m a fan of original equipment. Keep em coming.
Yep! You been stoppin back enough we know how ya roll! lol. Thanks Man, We appreciate ya and look forward to ya in the comments! Old age made its changes to me to lol.
That would be like putting clear glass doors on public restrooms.... would it work ?.... sure. But not everyone wants to see it. Lol. 👍

nice video guys and I hate going to parts house anymore if they can find it on the computer your out of luck. Back in the day when they knew what you needed
Right!? Even with the computer only service, you have to spin the monitor around to find it yourself. Only gonna get worse sadly.
I like the content of the show but "sweet mama" talks too fast about half the time and I have trouble understanding her...he sounds a little southern.
Only when she has a peach rehab before filming! Hey this is Hustle House Performance! She is a high performance talker and a heavy hitter on these projects. Gotta keep up man!!!!

Yea that's an awesome name. Coulda done a military theme with it too. Sweet Momma already gave it a handle though; she's gonna reveal the name in the next video. Thanks for watching!
Thank you I myself love the vow beetles one day maybe I will own one
Thats where we were. We had an eye out for a cheap one for a while, they have a feel all their own. Think all car dudes should own one before they hang up the wrenches
Great video absolutely beautiful truck awesome video ty guys you rock
Appreciate the love man! Thanks for watching.
Loved it, it made me cry, me and my dad worked together all the time, good filming. Loved the truck she fine. Hope your son is ok and your elbow. Just good job bud¡
Thanks man! Yea we have a good time working together. Even though I get the smelly end of all the ribbing its awesome workin with my son. Yea we do tend to get hurt alot, it runs in the family! Thanks for tunin in Buddy. Keep warm my friend!

God Bless you too Buddy. He has all our backs.
Man, I must have watched the drive through the mountains 50 times. Absolutely beautiful. Stunning scenery. 👍 And the perfect song choice. Gets into my feel goods every time i watch. I love that old truck. It's very nice to see you enjoying it. Wish i could clone it... I would give you a copy.
WE would take ya up on it too! lol. Yea we were too busy to watch but had that tune in our heads all day lol. Say what you will about Fayette county but we do have some awesome scenery dont we?
Terrific episode not to many people have went that far rebuilding engines I've done what you did in this episode your spot on man I hauled concrete for fourty years but the old car seen helped Rais my kids engines rebuilt anything from complete with new pistons with boring line boring blocks cooked new cam bearings all of I've done plenty of dingel ball hone lapping valves by hand and what ever watching you today took me back to thoes days me being a mopar guy my self thank you so much for what you all do
Man! thanks for the compliment! We don't pretend to know what we are doin but we tend to get lucky sometimes! lol. I'm kiddin. We're blessed to do what we do. Very thankful. Those days are almost gone I think. This newer stuff just seems like throw away stuff anymore. Doubt anyone will care to rebuild them in the years to come.
Great job, great video, always enjoy y'all
Appreciate ya, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for always stopin back and commenting! Your helpin us alot Hillbilly! Thanks!
159.769 hp is my guess
What!?!?! times 10!!!! hahaha jk. Hey im pretty sure it would twist a tire! lol. Its geared good and cruises these mountains like a champ. Awesome old truck!
59.769 hp is my guess. You were 1 off. It only had 27.374 hp to begin with. Lol. It had about .12 with poncho's engine in it. Lol..
Hahaha yea old Poncho is a sleepy old fella haha. He's that old guy that barely moves but would be the first there to help in a knife fight haha bet that old engine felt proud as a peacock pullin that old f250 around though!
Now that you know where to find the parts... you could always give new life to Poncho's old power plant. That engine deserves to be kept in service. It is tired for sure. But you woke it from it's grave and it stood tall and never failed. It deserves a little love.
It does have a bunch of respect from us. I do have a couple 56's out front I wanna drive real bad so It may come in handy lol.
She has MAD rattle can skills. Looks GREAT!
Yea she does... she has the patience for it too. I dump it on and cut the paint drips off the bottom when I'm done. I have no excuse to ever hold a paint can.. The world is a better place when I dont!
Why don't you do a giveaway on that Cuda? Sell some merch gain some viewers. Got to be other reasons why all the other youtubers do it
We would love to do something like that, in fact we have been talking about give aways for a little bit now. There are alot of obstacles for us right now to do that. We are more about building the channel right now than making money but problem is we dont have big enough following to give away something with that kind of value. It would take us years of selling to even coming close to the value of the giveaway. Next problem is we havent been able till just recently to nail down any artwork for our merch. Our Buddy Sam is all over that now though and think we are now good there. Biggest issue is we dont have the loot to place that big of a merch order. Thats is the reason for the sale of the Barracuda, to launch a merch site and start stocking it. Your 100% right on the notion.. may be a way out there to pull it off with pre orders etc. Just dont wanna put us in a position that somehow let the crowd down ya know.... you do have the wheels burnin rubber in my head wondering how we could make that work though..... Dang it!!! lol. Thanks man... This kinda thing is "whats next". for the channel though. Thanks for watching and commenting!
sweet looking truck 🇬🇧
Thanks! Yea our Buddy Ken got himself a looker! Awesome old truck. Instantly takes ya back!
Not bad for a Ford. Lol
I was going to give you a 👎, but I didn't want to screw with the algorithm just to try to be a jerk. Lol.
@ truth is I would drive it with a smile on my face. But a Chevy would be better. Lol.
Not bad at all! Awesome in fact! Hey, Ford, Chevy, Dodge... all brothers from the same family is how I see it!....... Merica!!!!!
Hahaha well the Algorithm likes lots of comments so if ya get in a scuff just keep it goin hahaha.. I'm kiddin. Hey we like them all in our Big Blue building.... long as they are older....long as they are cheap or free.....long as they dont give us too much trouble...long as they have a good battery in them... Hmmm Seems like I dont have any reason to like this junk around here!!!!! haha
Yea buddy! Even the dog liked this old truck and she's pretty hard to please!!! Gotta mean something!
I just enjoy watching you guys work on them old cars and trucks I’m not able to work in them anymore but when I was I did a lot of it god bless you all
Appreciate that, thanks for watching! Hey we all get to the point where we lay down the old 3/4 and let other folks change the oil..I'm not far behind my friend... not far at all. Glad we could give ya that garage fix though! We'll keep em coming for ya as long as we are able! Thanks for always stopping back.
Great job brother ! That engine looks great ! Thanks for another Guys !
Appreciate you checking it out Buddy! Yea Sweet Momma put the max sheen spray job on it and we got it as clean as possible. Hope it stays on there! lol. Thanks for stopping by!
Amazing work guys I know my brother is gonna be extremely happy with his truck.
Yea Man thanks! Hope it holds up a long time for him. He really loves that old truck... just like a truck guy should. Still awaiting news on that old hotrod you were lookin at!
It's amazing that the little hole is enough to feed the whole top end for lubrication. I am sure they took that into consideration when they designed the oil flow on that engine! (?) I do remember the valve chatter our truck used to make, and always thought it was normal! It never made any different which oil you used; the noise was always there! Change the oil and rum them. They seem to run forever!
Yea theyre known for that and your right, that little bit of flow dont seem like enough to me either but when the clearances are new and tight.. just dont take that much flow to keep everything happy I guess. Thanks for watching and commenting, Its a big help!
Keep up the good 👍 work on the old car and truck. You and your wife have some nice car 🚗 and truck to. God Bless 🙏 you and your family to. From Jim and is family to.
Thanks Jim, we are blessed to have some cool stuff to work on. God bless you and your family too!
I like old car 🚗 and truck to. Keep working on them old car and truck. From Jim and is family to
Oh ya as long as they are considered junk or broke we will be tackling them or trying to save as much as possible, weather we know the history or not. Always worth trying to fix em. Want the old days back so bad I guess that all we can do is hang on the good ones made back then The old classic will bring back someone’s memory or spark some history to tell. Makes it all worth it.
Thanks for you and your family watching. Appreciate ya all
Amazing job! Love watching you all getting those old ones back on the road, keep them coming.
Thanks for watching, we have a few more in the garage waiting for their turn! Stay tuned!

Had some cool ideas for a summer video so we had to do the best we could with what we had. Glad it turned into something entertaining! Thanks for watching and commenting... Appreciate ya!
Whatever happened to the plain and simple trucks? Trucks of today cannot compare with the stylish looks of the trucks of the 50s and 60s! I remember being toted around in one of these trucks with my brothers and sisters! Fun times and simple. That is one beautiful truck!
You’re right, the styling of these trucks is iconic for a reason! Wonder how a car company would do if they built old time type vehicles now adays. pretty good I bet!
Awesome job guys! That is a beautiful ole truck! Runs great!!!
Thanks, yea its like new in almost every way. Should last a long long time!
