A Typical Scrap Yard Experience - Recycling - Metal - Scrapper - Toyota Tacoma Scrap Truck
Scrapped a water heater (120 lbs) and cast aluminum (26 lbs) and made $15. Not bad for 2 pieces of garbage… The scrap yard is only 3 miles from my house.
They weigh your vehicle first and then you unload the metal in a designated pile depending the type of metal you have, usually the cheaper metals go into these piles. Then they weigh your vehicle again to calculate the weight of the metal that was unloaded. Then if you have more metal like copper, aluminum, brass, wiring, etc then you pull your vehicle inside to the building where they have a smaller scale. And then they usually pay you in a protected office just next to the scale.
They pay in cash and dollar and half-dollar coins sometimes too. If your total is over $100 they usually request your ID.

Hmmmmmm I’ve tied this over two oil changes one with doing this and without. Engine is moving in either case. The oil light went out quicker when I let the engine start up normal vs waiting for cranking to put the light out. Also you just drained and filled the oil so there is plenty of film on moving parts for the 2-4 seconds for the filter to prime. I’m not convinced this is saving you anything. My Toyota went 394,000 before I sold it and I never tried this with it (2007 Yaris)

@@WX4GPS I can’t argue with you! I didn’t even know this method existed until people commented on the oil change video I made. Let me ask you this: Did you replace the actual knock sensors ? or did you keep the original without replacing the actual sensors and just replaced the chewed up wires and harness assembly? and if so, as in reusing the same sensors, did you test them in any way? This is an Excellent video by the way. i've spent literally weeks researching here on youtube as well as tacomaworld and a few other places; and by far, really the Only video out there on this specific truck and motor. I had been planning to make a video of the entire process, but after reviewing your video, I see no need in wasting any time or effort in doing such seeing that this video is far superior to what i would probably put out there and not really something that i wanted to do. That being said, i will refer anyone with the same situation , directly to your video here. Stellar and thank you sir! Oh, by the way, . . . mine is a 2014 TRD Sport Tacoma. I think its great that everyone or most everyone posts their year and in doing so shows how wide of range the persistent problem expands; which is basically every Gen tacoma ever produced and an obvious failure that's purposely engineered by toyota for future revenue after the initial vehicle purchase. job security as they say. any company knowing well of this would have re engineered to fix the problem and another thing that i see toyota as being a company that has zero care for their customers and only keeping in mind how much they do care to keep diving into the pocket books of the customers that they give zero fukks about and in my eyes shady and dishonest business practices knowing damn well as is to what they are doing and continuing to do so with no regards to a single thing except taking more money in revenue and most likely have not a worry about feeding their families with the salaries that they live comfortably on. And one last thing before i go or forget. In the reaserch that i've done on this, i have come across a few or more than a few actually, that have stated that their insurance companies covered the cost of the repair. No details as to whether it was a stealership repair or not but putting two and two together, most stated that they had done th repair themselves and what i think is of high importance in knowledge on this subject matter and highly useful information to those who may be unaware of the possibilities that it may be covered by their auto insurance. i'm sure that it varies between companies and the major factor in that part comes down to ones amount and type of coverage they have on their tacoma. so all that being said, i must say: Thank You again ! sadly enough to say, because of all the hype and or stipulations or rumors ; i have waited over two years to dive in to fixing this problem and in doing such, have over spent a grip of a small fortune on fuel/gas that probably could have paid the retail service cost well from 10 to 20 times over if not more, although i have no idea in all reality that of what the total costs may have actually been that i have wasted not to mention the performance losses and possibilities of further damaging other parts of the engine but in all honesty, I could not afford to even do this myself out of pocket due to family and psychopath issues that i have had to deal with that as always , compoletly unwanted and undesired that no one should have to go through or shall i say be put through and the main factor for my taking over two years to get a handle on, in which i might add that i still have not the funds to do this and am getting a little assistance

I didn’t touch the knock sensors, I kept them in place. I did think there was a chance the knock sensor got damaged, but I took the risk of not changing them. I did not do anything special to test them. Thank u for the complement and I agree that there wasn’t much useful information online to fix this issue and that’s exactly why I made this video. I agree that Toyota is probably aware and had opportunities to correct it but there’s no benefit for them to fix it.. I also have many projects that have been on my list for 2 years or more. It seems like there’s never enough time and one of the main contributing factors is definitely family. Thank you again for the feedback and I hope your repair goes smooth. Let me know if you have any questions.

A lot of parts but no special tools needed… definitely will try. Thanks

Thank you for the very clear video!!! Super helpful for novices such as myself :) I clicked your Amazon affiliate links then bought some different tools than you suggested, hopefully you will still get the credit :)

Thank you so much for posting this video! The exact same thing happened to me and I really can’t afford to hire a mechanic to fix it. This video is super helpful. How many hours would you say the project took you start to finish?

I honestly don’t remember because I took a few breaks to eat and relax but i finished it all in one day

I’m thinking maybe between 3-6 hours. It’s hard to say. I took my time and like I said, I took a few breaks throughout the day, plus I spent time moving the camera around. Let me know how it goes 🙏 sorry it happened to you too. It sucks when you realize what happened and what has to be done to fix it.
