A paraglider pilot’s guide to thermalling Babadağ Mountain
This video is aimed at paraglider pilots visiting Ölüdeniz, Turkey to fly Babadağ mountain and who wish to explore thermic flying there.
It is not a video that explains how to fly in thermic conditions but rather, gives information on possible thermic hot spots that may be encountered.
The video is particularly relevant to those pilots new to Babadağ who have thermalling experience and want exploration ideas.
The video follows the events of a single trip in April/May 2022 where the conditions were not initially favourable to thermic flying but improved as the trip went on.
I include launching and flying sequences so that pilots have a general overview of the conditions. I also include tracklogs of some of the flights and these are important in determining where the thermal triggers may appear on the mountain. Pausing the video on these and reviewing the track will give you some idea of where those triggers often are.
These hot spots will of course change with conditions but since the conditions were changeable over the period covered in the video, they still offer relevant information that may be utilised.
Sequence:
00:00 Introduction
00:23 1200 m launch views

A short video of an unplanned and quite high risk landing on a dirt road in a Turkish town (Ovacik) near Oludeniz. The circumstances were brought about essentially through complacency leading to an error of judgement. I had launched earlier from 1900 m Kuzey and had been enjoying exploring the area around Babadag mountain as I had done many times before. Plenty of lift early on and wind roughly...
Paraglider Pilot's Guide - Oludeniz 2021- Important Update!!
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This update focuses on the new system that solo pilots need to use to be able to fly from any of the launches on Babadag mountain near Oludeniz. The changes have come about due to the opening of the cable car (Teleferik) and all launches are now a part of that company. There is an initial set up process that is required and a number of pilots have lost flying time because they were not aware of...

    this year i managed to reach around 2985m. You have often the best climb in the east from the starting place at 1900m. In the valley between the start at 1900m and the next hill in the east. And of course.. a lot of luck. Wtih this altitude we thought about flying to fethiye, but our flight home was the same day and maybe even with that altidute it wasn't possible (??)

The still is used in whatever software you use for video editing; I use Da Vinci Resolve. Once in your video editor annotations and animations can be added to point out specific areas or information. Hi Thank you for the comments and I’m glad that you enjoyed the video. The thing that we fly in these videos is a Paraglider. I have seen your videos of pilots' information at Oludenise, very helpful. As I will be there next week, I gather you to use the App and generate a QR code for each flight and close it when you land. When you pay for your ticket you show them your code and they give you one or two tickets? Where and how do you use those tickets at the entry or at the top? Sorry if these are dumb questions but it would be good to understand. Thanks for any help

    • @Frank274
      @Frank274 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Christopher miller Not dumb questions at all, best to get it right before you go. At the Teleferik (cable car), you will get one or to tickets dependent on how you intend to get to launch. If you intend to use the Teleferik you need a ticket for that, which gets you through the turnstile and onto the Teleferik. You also need one for launch. If you are going up by one of the mini buses (for tandem & solo pilots) you only need one ticket for launch since you will have paid for the mini bus ride. The launch ticket gets you through the turnstile for whichever launch you will be using on the mountain. Hope that helps, if not shout out again.
