Imperial Modelworks
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 ม.ค. 2015
Hello, my name is Logan, welcome to the Imperial Modelworks TH-cam channel.
A little about me: I've been building models for close to 20 years, due largely to my father and my uncle both getting me involved in the hobby. I have built many subjects, including ships, planes, figures, cars, trains, a few spacecraft, and a few diorama subjects.
What can you expect to see here/what is the purpose of this channel? I created my Facebook page, as well as this channel, to help fellow model builders with things that I would have found very useful early on in my model building "career". I plan to focus mostly on model demolition derby cars (including an extensive "how-to" series on them) and 1/35 scale armor on this channel.
Please feel free to subscribe, and check out my page on Facebook. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to see you at the bench.

Hey everyone, here is the second video in the series. I know everyone is excited to get to damaging a body, but we need to be able to stand before we can walk, and walk before we can run. In this Video, I cover my essential tools and supplies that I use every day at the bench. it's pretty rare that any of the tools shown here are left out of a work session. Model Derby Car "How-To" Series Video 1: Hard Truths and Basic Tips.
มุมมอง 10K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is the first in a series I have planned to help people in the model derby car community learn and improve. I've contemplated/started this concept a couple times before with some short how-to videos, but this is the start of this series that I've attempted to get going for awhile. This video touches on a few things that I feel need to be stated in our community, as well as a fee basic...

Takom 1/35 T29E3 & T30/T34 kits, Mid-build (pre-weathering) Review
มุมมอง 11K7 ปีที่แล้ว
An in-depth look at what to expect from the Takom American heavy tanks. Note: I forgot to mention one issue with the T29 in the video, I had to add thin shims to the gun mantlet to allow the gun to be poseable. The pins that are supposed to hold the gun mantlet in place, don't hold the mantlet snugly.
Hey man I built some but the cars are harder to find now especially the older ones and do you sell parts
🐱🐶🐭🐹🐰🐨🐻❄️🐼🐻🦊
I'm learning a lot watching your videos, so thank you.I appreciate that. The tools you use, Some of that I figured it out Just by trial and error. But still you're a much more advanced modeler than I am i'm... I'm not bottom wrong.I'm not even sure where the ladder is 😂. But I am a retired. And man that is difficult to say, Automotive stunt man but not professionally, Send me professionally I guess. I would tour the circuit going to all of the fairgrounds, Through a company called thrill show productions, A mainly canadian firm. To the most a roll over driver meaning driving a car up around and flipping it side over side sometimes and overend... If I Had a spare car andNo impending show coming up.I would do demolition derby's as well às figure eight racing. But my main sport was roll overs. Must have done something, right.I have thirteen championship trophies. Back to the models- Like I said, I've learned a lot from you and you obviously put a lot of time.Effort and energy into the cars... You are obviously very talented and no disrespect is meant but from what i've seen most of them seem to be " Overdone ". Just my opinion which isn't worth a grain of salt, Feel free to tell me " Oh yeah?!? Let me see you do better!" Because we both know I can't. One thing I can do And for well over ten years was build 1:1 scale cars. You take your mortals to extremes. And in my opinion which isn't worth anything,, I personally feel they would Look more realistic if they weren't So overdone on the body work and maybe put more effort into what hoods actually look like.As far as fastening goes same with trunks,, Yes tanks fuel lines electrical system... The entire interfor that matter. And maybe you do all of that and I just haven't seen it yet. I've only watched a few videos, but I've never seen that being done so once again from my perspective. I see it more as opposed to an actual replica of a living.Breathand demolition derby car.
I took my third and fourth build, Turned it into a Diorama and some how won 1st place In that division. I even accidentally dropped the diairama and smashed part of it in the parking lot before the show. By accident.😂 Went inside swearing under my breath. Bummed some glue off of a guy. And hobbled it back together. Looking at everything else I was up against.I knew I didn't have a chance. Entry fee was only twenty bucks, But I won a hundred bucks😂. I had Roughly a hundred and fifty hours Two hundred hours into each car. I put in all the wiring harness, Hoses, Scratch built battery and battery box and interiors etc. As well as a boat gas tank Where the Back seat used to be. Having been a derby driver (1:1 scale) Certainly helped with the build As I knew what all of the tech rules were. Funniest Or maybe not so funny.I could only afford the absolute cheapest models. I remember one of them was actually a hamicuda And picked it because it already had a hole In the hood. These were not my very first builds.Ever just my third and fourth attempt at demolition derby cars. I had already built over 100 Models which certainly helped. I think from the judges point of view, After looking at A million war diaramas, Then seeing some clown Building the corner of a demolition Derby pit probably didn't hurt my chances.. I remember One judge saying something about " Finally something original". Since we were going to the show anyways, I figured I might as well build something not expecting to even honorable mention.. I know he has his list of 7 and they make perfect sense to me But don't Forget that even if you think You built a turd. You never know how other people might view it. Now if you're one of those people that build and paint a cor or Tank or whatever in under an hour,, Don't be surprised when you get laughed at. Especially if you are from the Generation where you're whole life everybody gets a trophy!
How did you crease the back of the wagon im getting into these model cars I do the 1/64 scale cars but i am getting started with the 1/25 scales and how do you make them look damaged
What’s the scale
1/35
@@imperialmodelworks8473 thanks, looks great
What did you use for the roll bar and cage?
Live life demolition derby
I haven't done this in about 30 years, then I started building real demolition Derby cars specifically I was a rollover driver. So full cage full engine gauge, Hood was raised about 2in because of the engine gauge, different size wheels... Now I have come full circle and want to build the replica of my rollover car! Thank you very much for the tips this is going to be extremely helpful in my as I can't remember how I did them when I was just a kid! I think I used the iron from my wood-burning set to heat plastic and bend it😂😂😂 I already have all the tools that you have from my HO scale project, I can apply this knowledge to that as well as my replica car! Thank you very much for this video it's been extremely helpful
Glad to help! Feel free to find me on Facebook as well if you'd like any more info.
I could do it but 3D printing is outa sight
the t29 dont have muzzle break on the e3 . all prototype that you can find in museum dont have one
You're right, all one T29E3s that are in museums don't have one. But, at the time I built this, metal barrels didn't exist for the kit, and every other mounting of this gun on vehicles had the brake, so I put it on.
@@imperialmodelworks8473 oh i see . i guess is a barrel for a t30 or t34 ?
@@TheJimyyy it's the kit barrel but worth the spare muzzle brake from the T-28 kit.
@@imperialmodelworks8473 ah ok so is the same gun that should be on it but whit a muzzle so not bad , did you replace it after or you let it that way ?
I've been tryna figure out how to make a cradle for the engine how do you make yours or where to buy them
Looks pretty awesome. So many great details! I am not much of a model builder but I have built Winning derby cars. Just a couple thoughts; remove fuel tank, rules dictate for most derbies. add wheel damage. Those wheels would die fast, with tires stretched like that. Idk how you would do it but show welded door/trunk/hood gaps. Nice work. ABG
i agree
I like that these are not the usual clean cars with zero miles / kilometers.
Yeah I'm not very good at doing showroom clean stuff lol
Where do you get the engine/headers
Some I build, some are 3D printed. I use 440 chryslers from the revell special edition 68 charger kit, and 350 small block chevys from the revell special edition 68 (I think, might be a 69) Nova kit. Best engines of their types I've seen in scale.
Would you be willing to sell one to me please
I don't really build for customers anymore. Sorry.
Where do you get the headers/engine from
Love these videos man keep it up im gonna try and start getting inot building them ik im gonna suck at forst but i gotta start somewhere
Like video 1 says: we all suck at it at first lol. I did too.
Can you do a video on the frame work, like how you build your frames and get them realistic as possible
That's in the pipeline, just have alot going on at the moment.
Great video man. But where did you get the motor in the tab car I think it’s the 77 car
It's 3D printed, but I don't think the guy that did it makes them anymore
@@imperialmodelworks8473 lol that’s my luck
Aren’t you scared you’ll warp the whole car doing that?
I usually have a floor taped or temporarily glued in place when I do this, to keep the body straight. A little bit of warp isn't a terrible thing, especially on a very used up car. Many people don't realize how much the roof deforms on cars, or how much the whole body will buckle and shift.
Missed ya man!
More videos ?
Hopefully soon. Have alot of projects going on and just moved so havent done much with models for about 2 months.
@@imperialmodelworks8473 I appreciate you and your time that you put in your vid’s they have inspired me to build better models and get more into the hobby thanks a lot man
How do you make the frame like that, I’ve been building model cars for 5-6 years and I’m still struggling with that. I’ve tried my own ways but doesn’t looks right
When I made my scratch build car I've used grill sticks and green stuff.
You mean bent? Or the paint?
@@imperialmodelworks8473 like how to cut everything out of the frame to make it look realistic, every time I do it it looks messing form the inside. I don’t know if it’s the models I’m using. Could I message you on fb and show you mine?
@@blaikemccarthy6913 absolutely
hey do you know who Tyler Nign is. I am his son he said that he remembers you from bash for cash when he built those busch light cars the roundback with a cummins in
Yep I remember Tyler, good dude. I wasn't at Bash for Cash (it's like a 12 or 14 hour drive for me), but I do remember that car. Wish I had it for my display case!
Plz post more. I really wanna get back into derby models and would love to follow along with the series
I've heard enough...... boy........you like blowing smoke up your own ass, being condescending like your our superior to all us builders that maybe below you skill wise , like model building is suppose to be some kind of fucking rocket science experiment, like its a job,not a hobby. It's about having fun , NOT listening to people like you who take it way too serious. I'm 59, been in this hobby accumatively a long time. Managed a "REAL " hobbyshop for 3 years at 26. I got out of building a long time ago. One day, about 3 years ago I watched utuber named "Hpiguy " build a kit.I was weeks away from selling thousands of dollars worth of old unbuilt car and military jet kits. I didn't want to build anymore. Watching Hpiguy got me back into building and I never looked back. Chris( Hpiguy) knows how to talk to new builders as well as builders who have gone on a long hiatus. No worries,no pressures, just have fun and build for yourself.,and build it YOUR WAY ! Fuck all who criticize ! Now, If I would of watched your channel,or someone with an ego the size of yours from the beginning I probably would of thought all intermediate, and advanced builders were like you, who take a hobby wayyyyyy too serious, wayyyyy too competitively, and I would of sold my collection. THANK YOU HPIGUY ! Hobbys like scale model building are suppose to be relaxing, being chilled, and not worrying about people like you who take things too far. HEY, if that's what you want to do with your hobby,it's a FREE world, knock yourself out, but most builders just want to build, not being talked down to by another builder. HARD TRUTHS , REALLY ? LOL WTF is that all about MR.TEACHER ? LOL When I walk away from my job every day doing commercial HVAC, I leave ALL pressures behind, go home, take care of business, then go into my man cave, close the door and relax, and build. I'm not worrying about what some other model builder is doing. Again......Calmness, relaxation, listening to good, but mellow music and letting my imagination run wild. AND THAT IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT !
Even though I know most of this stuff I'm still watching them lol. I actually saw this video and figured I'd finally get back to one of my plastic models as I'm done with all the aluminum stuff now
As good as those builds are, I stoked to see what you can do with plastic.
Love the videos man!
Hobby Boss has a 1/35th T29 E1 kit.
Wait explane the T30
How did you get this
Where do you find the bumpers, like say a Chrysler pointy or a monte or something like that. And also if it would be possible where did you get the front bumper for this car and what kind is it
I was there yesterday
Nothing like it in the world. I've wanted to see one run since I was a kid, and even though I'd seen hundreds of photos and video clips, none of them truly prepared me for how big it really was.
I have a lot of derby cars
Nice. That’s all I do. Mostly “relic class” derby cars.
Wow you should do a start tot stop model
Thinking about doing the T30/34 but the 155 looking so tiny would bother me.
It bothered me as well. I actually used end section of the plastic barrel from a Trumpeter 17cm Geschutzwagen to replace the 155 barre on a hypothetical T30E2 I'm doing right now.
I quite like that imperial!
My father just got me the T29 model. Excellent to see it put together. Have a great day!
Excellent! Glad you liked it, I plan to do a post-build follow up video soon, as it is finally complete.
I've just started using the MCW line of aircraft colors, and like the reviewer, these will be my go-to paints going forward. I'm a new airbrush user with a cheap airbrush and am amazed at the results I'm getting.
James Kohan that's a big plus I've noticed too. I have a pretty decent brush, but a very basic badger compressor. No holding tank, just a regulator, and it sprays magnificently.
can you build a willys jeep ?thanks
