Life in Paraguay
New Zealand
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ก.ย. 2023
Want to know what it's like to live in Paraguay?🤔
In October 2022 we left our home in New Zealand to embark on a journey to find a new place to live! Sadly our ‘slice of paradise’ was changing. We no longer felt like we could pursue our lifestyle dreams in NZ.
Our first stop was Guatemala. From there we travelled down through El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica looking for a place to call home. Then we heard great things about Paraguay and decided it was worth looking in to.
We love it here but like any new country it takes time to get settled and get the basics organised - especially when you don't speak fluent Spanish.😬
Join us for the adventure & lots of information about our new home in Paraguay!

Mind Matters 4️⃣ Take it Easy, You're in Paraguay!
Trauma is all around us, and our Govt & Media ensure we're reminded...constantly. Everything is scarce, broken or contagious. So here's a question, could all this madness impact on the way we approach day to day challenges? Well, it's worth considering the possibility, because our lives are built or deconstructed one decision at a time.

Good message! 👏👏👏
We're travelling in Brazil and Paraguay in Feb 25. Do you know any Community eg Mennonites or similar where we could spend a few days to experience their way of life (we are not looking for a religious focus). Have been researching Paraiso Verde but a little to much controvereary atm though basic principles are compatible. Appreciate your input.
Sorry we don't know of any. The key thing is to take your time to look around and understand what you should be paying. Many people say you should rent for at least 12 - 18 months before you buy and we totally agree with that. There's some crazy pricing out there and a buying process that has no protection for you. Sadly Paraguay has many foreigners who paid too much for their land and also people who purchased land and still have no title!
@@LifeParaguay Yes, that is what researched. Not really keen to buy abroad any longer, having done once before, and selling is problematic in the sense you generally won't get your initial spend back.
@@Mystery-q8e Yes, it's a bit of a mine field! Especially in Latin American countries. 🙃
What a fabulous family. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm an ex kiwi too. Currently setting up home in Lithuania. Mandated out of my job in NZ as a secondary school teacher in Whangarei during the Great Health Crisis under stalinda... We left NZ, rashly bought a house in Texas without enough discussion and then left Texas after 20 months and went to my wifes country Lithuania. Love to correspond with you guys if you have an email. Yes - there is much to learn about property buying in Paraguay. Taking your time and getting good advice on the process is vital. We need to leave our Western experience behind and look with a fresh set of eyes!

Yes, much of what we know about looking for & buying property from our previous countries you need to leave at the border! You need time to understand and research areas, the process and how Paraguay moves. We hear many stories of people who paid for land and still don't have their titles years later. Trying to sort this out via the legal system here is another nightmare it itself.... We just need to learn as Westerners that we need to slow down and take time - we have freedom so you need to make wise decisions and be smart! 😉
Is the driving theory or practical in Spanish?
The licence requirements vary greatly dependent on the municipality. In the area where we live there is no practical test...in Asuncion there is. The written/eye test is in Spanish but they are very helpful here where we live😉so no problem. The other thing you need to consider as well is that whatever area you get your licence, you need to pay the small renewal fee there each year.
It's been six months, I would be curious if he has managed to evict the people. My money is on no.
No, unfortunately I think it may still be an issue...
Good interview. I'm a Canadian myself and from a mountainous region as well (British Columbia). I'm a bit concerned that the geography and outdoor lifestyle might get a bit boring for me. Not a bar or nightlife guy, so wondering about long-term happiness. I love the freedom aspect though.
The freedom aspect bought us here and we love it! There are some really unique places to explore in PY but you generally won't find them on the internet as international tourism is minimal. So a lot of what you can do is not in plain sight! If you want some more adventure then you have Brazil & Argentina on your doorstep 😉
Well I sat my pets down and asked them how they felt about moving to Paraguay. They said so long as you take us along too, we just want you happy mum! To me it is a no-brainer. Having known over 15 years ago where the world was heading, the agendas, that we are not the top of the food chain, what is coming down the pipe shortly, there are lemmings and then there are those who want to be the foundation for creating a new world. That means getting out of the train wreck,, and valuing community, self sufficiency and helping others! It is what it is, but those who need to will converge and co-create.
Yes - the writing has been on the wall for awhile huh!
Thanks for doing all that travelling o our behalf too! If you settled on Paraguay after all those countries, then so can we! Love your new land, excatly what I am after! Well done dear intrepid travellers, it was all worth it!
Thanks 😉
My garden in North Cyprus looks just like that. Lush and narual. I studied Permaculture and attended activity workships in UK. My project will naturally incorporate permaculture and biodynamic farming techniques. One of the chief agronomists in Brazil is a good friend and studies Biodynamic farming at the Rudolph Steiner College in uk. He wanted to assist me here but once I am in Paraguay in will be much closer! I toured such farms with him in Brazil as part of my research in 2006! Great to know others are on the same wavelength there and beautiful building methods too!
Yes, they have some amazing Permaculture food forests in Brazil! We have been following a guy from NZ who has been spending time in Brazil learning their farming techniques.
I have a preconceived idea that Paraguay would have lots of old VWs and South American-built 40-series land cruisers, but it sounds like the age of a vehicle is a problem over there?.
There are lots of older cars here. Not sure about the landcruisers, but we see lots of old VW's & Combi vans around!
Nice!, some real dirt bikesand dirt bike riding. I have only seen CB125's or Chinese copys on videos in Paraguay so this is great to see.
Yes - it was pretty full on! They have these get togethers on a pretty regular basis as well 😉
The Chinese copies are astonishingly good. It's unbelievable how much motorcycle you get for little money. I've been riding my Kenton 200 reliably off-road for years.
The truth, I have a farm being from Europe and travelling the world, whereever I travel and at home I am ALWAYS armed and people are friendly but mostly with an interest.
Thanks
Good on you, guys x. Looking forward to returning

We don’t want to buy, seems like too many pitfalls. Is it possible to rent a little house in Paraguay and have that freedom lifestyle without having to tie yourself down to a property?
Yes - you can rent long term no problem 🙂 Buying seems scary, but you just need to understand the process and tick the boxes! We were lucky to be referred an excellent Escribana, she has guided us through the process. She also speaks English and is professional & trustworthy.
I hope it is fine for a woman on her own.
Yes - it's fine. You just need to decide the best environment/area for you. Everyone has a different perspective on what "safety" is and where they feel comfortable.
@@LifeParaguay - yes, that's true.

You're spot on mate. I'm stuck here in Australial living out the BS you are talking about. I'm hoping to get Paraguay PR if possible and retire over there but it is getting harder and harder to do anything over here and it feels like every day things are getting worse and our grubberment are taking more and more rights and freedoms from us. Love your work mate. 😊👍🏾
I noticed you said you were ‘hoping’ to get to Paraguay ‘if possible”. Anything is possible is you really want it and take action towards it. Hoping on a possibility isn’t going to cut it. Start planning today. I am in a similar position to you living in a similar country to you and I will be making my way to Paraguay for residency in the first half of next year. I just need to sort out some financial loose ends in my home country before taking the full leap.
Hi there. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to deal the red tape to escape the gulag. I saw the writing on the wall in 2009 and moved to NZ. It was a good move then, but NZ is now more a basket case than where you are. I wish you well and hope you find a way out.
I agree Shane. We've seen how the gulag can be closed without notice. Sometimes it's a matter of when you have to go you have to go. Having said that, I understand everyone's situations are different.
Which country are you in right now?
Which part of Paraguay do u like ?
🤭he he, 'back home things are cheaper'. Not if back home is Australia-the land of $7 coffees and $12 beers
90% of all westeners who move to Paraguay these days are not moving TO Paraguay, they are running AWAY from their home country to whatever country that can satisfy their version of Utopia
Where did you get that stat from?
@@LifeParaguay From many many years of experience. I my self moved to Paraguay with my parents as a kid in 1983 and have seen everything ever since. The 90% is of course a good guess, but it is very close to correct. Not many come here for adventure or jobs, they come from Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand because they run away from muslim migrants, "woke-ness", taxes, Covid vaccinations, socialism, etc... But that is not a bad thing... Its a sad thing, that the western world is falling apart
Well said. If something takes 3 months you can pay somebody a lot of money to bribe people, and it will then only take 90 days.
Sad but true!
Hello. Happy to see you again today.
Gracias Amigo.
Best video on Living in Paraguay ive seen so far.
Thanks for the great feedback - we try and keep it real!
I wish you had talked about bypass and stent intervention. Does one need to travel to Brazil or Argentina??
Sorry we don't know anything about these types of operations. Maybe ask in another forum?
Boy it is a nightmare
This scenario is definitively to be avoided, and it can be. Engage a good lawyer, always have a clear title and a current Geo-Referenced map and do things by the book.
Interesting video, I found your channel by accident, I am in Foz do Iguaçu Brasil, so just 3km from Ciudad del Este centro, I had no idea that so many people were settled or looking to settle in Paraguay from Europe, and the English speaking world, , and I have extended family in El Departmento Cordillera! I guess like the vast majority of Brasilians, even locally I only really know CDE centro in Paraguay for tax free shopping 😚. Good luck with your life there! PS I find Paraguayans learn languages very fast, due to often being bought up bilingual in Castelano and Guarani, Although I speak Spanish I notice many of the population of CDE speak very good Portuguese, Of course with 90% of clients being from Brasil in the Tax Free Zone in CDE this helps, also many Esteños cross to Foz do Iguaçu Brasil for shopping and Restraunts night life etc, which are much more prelavant than in CDE, Although I personally prefer a city life to a rural environment I look forward to seeing any other videos you produce about your region.
Thanks for the insights and thanks for the encouragement.
This could grow into violence. They live there your foreigner. I would not feel comfortable in another country, trying to get some squatters off my property. Hope they don’t show up in the middle of the night with machetes .
Things can go wrong in any country. I know people in the place we were not foreigners in who had similar situations, and worse.
That is great to hear. We are heading to PY early next year and my son needs braces. Maybe we will check out some dentists while we are there.
Cool. Well, if you go to Caacupe we can recommend a great dentist there. Contact us if need the dets.
