After I bought property, I had a well drilled and installed a submersible pump and bladder tank which everyone said was a mistake. Not that there's anything wrong with that kind of system, but it is not used very often around here. The funny thing is that now, I supply water to several neighbors.
Great work. Good for you having the courage to plow ahead. There's many solutions that this country needs to be exposed to. I bet you have happy neighbors. 👍

Dear Kimmo and Mervi, Thank you for sharing so many details regarding your land purchase, house build, and your perceptions as you embrace your new country!. This is very helpful to me as I consider a move to Paraguay! Great interview Adam! Greetings from Georgia USA, Peter Vecchio
Good stuff Adam. I like that you ask the right questions and you let them talk! Love the mindset of Mervi & Kimmo. Not siloing is important. Too many folks move here and keep a Western mindset. It's nice to grow micro-communities where we support each other (between Westerners but also between Westerners and local folks). I see Merci & Kimmo as trailblazers that will be joined by other folks. Thanks for doing part of the heavy lifting guys. Looking forward to checking the place. A note on the pool... if you never had one, be careful about what you sign up for. They are nice to look at / swim in but it's energy consuming (time, money, effort).
Hey Julien, thanks champ, appreciated. Haa, yes, try to let them talk. Overtalking is a symptom of a generation that is forgetting how to converse. We hear you about pools. I'd love to give a natural pool a go. Lot's of aquatic plants here so a natural filter could work well. I hope you guys are well.
@@OurLifeinParaguay I'm definitely up for a natural pool. Another couple is also up to it. Sounds like it wouldn't be hard to co-build one with a few families. Looking forward to see you guys once we are back! Thanks for what you are doing to support folks out there.

Whenever I see those lists of countries ie The Happiest, The Smartest, The Best etc I just laugh. Most of them are just based on nothing except the opinion of an intern or perhaps chatgpt. Like most things from the MSM it's just bs.
Finland has one of the highest suicide statistic in Europe - it does not add up with the happiest country statistics... Basically these surveys celebrate the countries with the highest public spending and most controls. Basic rule: socialism and government control = happiness
Happiness metrics are typically measured from a bunch of objectively quantifiable measurements. Toothiness or curvature of the average smile is not one of them, so yes, none are using a definition of happiness that involves psychological or emotional state.
Thanks everyone for another really helpful video. Wondering about rain water tanks instead of wells although I hear the ground water is very pure and plentiful. Cheers from FNQ.
Good question. Tanks are used, but wells are also very common. Tanks, fittings, pipes and spouting aren't cheap and plumbing is not as advanced here. Also, many houses do not have spouting. Due to the pure underground water sources wells are generally preferred in conjunction with small holding tanks.
@@OurLifeinParaguay it sounds a bit like Goa India, almost no-one has spouting/guttering there either. We cut plastic water pipe length ways for guttering and fixed it to the veranda so we didn't have to run the waterfall gauntlet over the entrance when we were going out or coming home during the monsoons. Our house was/is a very very old Portuguese building, very very basic and sounds a bit like some of the old Spanish influenced homes in Paraguay. Looking forward to your next video. :)
@@deborahmaurer9163 That's interesting, thanks. Yes, there's similarities with here and Portugal. As you know, the Spanish inspired houses generally aren't designed to accommodate the brackets that hold spouting. Apart from wasted water the other issue this can cause is it dumps loads of water around the house foundations and this promotes wet foundations which lead to rising damp.
About batteries for backup power: they are expensive, degrade, stored power leaks, and they are a fire hazard. I propose to have a diesel powered generator. Note that fuel also degrades over time, but much slower than batteres and diesel is much better than petrol in that regard. Powering air conditioning with solar panels makes more sense, as there is solar power when you want cooling and not so much when you don't want cooling.
Spot on in regard to neighbors. I bought 2 lots, then bought another so I dont have anyone too close. May buy another 1 or 2 lots if they become available.
Another great informative video. The winter clothing frightened the life out of me lol you must be well climatized if 15 degrees is cold 😀 Paraguay sounds more appealing by each video.
I live next Encarnacion, I'm from Brazil. I would like to say firstly check the climate before going to Paraguay, it could be terrible in Summer for some persons from cold countries . About Paraguay folk? You will find all, honest and deshonest mainly in services, take care with big promises. In Summer don't expect hardworkes and I agree, is terrible work outdoor with 38°C . Mainly, don't go to Paraguay if you don't have any ability in hand works, mainly in house, you will need it.
There's pro's and con's of a big wall, that's for sure. Also, once the robbers jump over they have good concealment. Maybe that's where a dog comes in. Hopefully we will have an announcement about buying a property soon. We plan to do some videos on discussing options for home security.
Great video! Curious of pricing for the land talked about and the build pricing? Seeing lots of things online but not too much of land and build pricing. Cheers

My experience is that people in Paraguay are surprisingly honest. For exemple, it has happened to me several times that I have given too much money in the shop or at the fruit market and they always have given me extra back. When you are buying materials there are fixed prices just like everywhere else. In our case preventing "gringo tax" (which I don't really see here) is that we bought the house as a package. Forget about Paraguay it’s a very volatile country and you can ended up in a nasty surprising mass. And luckily if you don’t loose your life in the end. Paraguayans are for themselves and the government doesn’t protect you they look up to their people only. After all you’re a just a useless foreigner and you don’t mean nothing to them. Very, very sad what happened to my family!…My father brought property and settled in Paraguay built a beautiful farm peacefully home life with 7 small kids and one baby on the way. We were living there for about ten years, when they came to our door with guns, told my father to pick up his family and leave by next day, go back to his country to never comeback, otherwise hey would kill him and his family. We left as told. Sadly my father die from a stroke 7 months later caused by the loss of livelihood. My mother has the 8th baby one week after my father died. The saddest part is that they still doing this till these days. It’s a fact and it’s the truth. So please do diligence and beware. Please make sure you have guns if possible, and a good attorney in your home country to protect yourself and your family.
If this happened as you say then that's an unfortunate situation. It's also the first and only story I've heard like that. I don't know who you are referring to when you say 'they'? I can only say, if this were happening on a consistent basis it would be impossible that I would not be hearing about it. Bad things happen in many countries. Paraguay is by far the safest country I have ever lived in.
I have been living in Paraguay for the past 40 years. I don't know where you were living, but it is the exact opposite of where I live. Biggest safety issue here is the condition of the roads.
I have seen you post this same information on another bloggger’s channel. What was the reason this happened? Nothing like this happens randomly and only to your family. What was your father’s occupation and his source of income? Who were his business partners or associates? Why don’t you investigate and find out why this happened to your family? Best wishes to you to get closure.
Been to many countries in SA, Argentina, Brazil, Belize, Panama, Mexico, etc, never been to Paraguay Would like to sell everything here, move some place like Paraguay, I got Mennonite friends that live there in Paraguay, not been in contact with them since they left USA. My concern is America one morning is going to wake up 3am to a Orange Mushroom Cloud!
Welcome! It is a pity to see your country become similar in a mindset like Europe... In Paraguay you have still some good "old" values left like God and guns👍

Human life expectancy in Finland for men is 78,6 and for women 83,8. However, more important than the length of life is quality, happiness and chances to make something meaningful during our time on Earth.
So in Paraguay the seller himself holds the deposit? There is no NUETRAL escrow type account to hold these funds until closing? So if the seller disappears with the money? How many years in the Paraguay court system to address getting your money back? On an expensive property 20% down could be significant money. Never be worth more dead than alive in South America!!!
Bienvenidos al Paraguay todos los que buscan la Paz !
