    This is great info all my zinnias blew over this year with all the storms we’ve had so this will be good for next year. 2 questions do you do dahlias this way? How high do you typically start the netting?

    • @1818Farms
      @1818Farms 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This netting is a lifesaver! I net the dahlias about 3 feet up. My varieties tend to get tall. Another method is to double net. One net about 2 feet high followed by a second net around 4 feet. We do this for top heavy things like tall marigolds.

    Another great explanation about cutting at an angle. I've heard to do that with roses, but never knew why until just now. Thank you again for such an excellent tutorial!!!

    That's the problem I've had this year as a third year zinnia hobbyist. My first year, I never pruned the first flower because it didn't look expired. As a direct result, that plant never produced another bloom. Subsequently, I gave up trying to grow zinnias for years after that disappointment. My second year, giving it another try after some basic research as the internet took off... I was thrilled with the results from simply cutting that first flower that never looked like it needed to be cut. And they claim that ignorance is bliss. This is my third year growing zinnias and I have been cutting to the next shoot with a bud. I was wrong once again. Thank you so very much for the gardening tips!!!

    My first year growing loofphs and I did as the pkg suggested and just planted them in hills. Spreading like crazy and know I understand about the male and female blooms! I am just wondering with them being on the ground how they will dry? Have you had any experiences with growing them on the ground? I have some HUGE loofphs. Planted in May (Iowa) and in July/Aug finally started getting fruit forming.

      I have only grown them on arches. I am unsure how they would do on the ground. Do you need to turn them so that one side isn’t damaged from being in contact with the ground?

    A suggestion because I adore your content; invest in an inexpensive lavalier mic that you can bluetooth to the camera, so your voice is more present. The ambient distance makes me turn up my pc, and then I forget it's turned up, and the next video gives me brain damage from ultra decibels. Flowers!!

    This is very helpful, thank you! Just curious though - that first ‘shoot’ to come out is the actual shoot, not the root, isn’t it? I would have thought that’s the bit that will grow up to the light, not down into the soil?

    • @1818Farms
      @1818Farms หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it’s the root. It has to be placed into the soil to get needed nutrients and water. The rest of the plant comes after it break off the seed case.

    Hi!! I’m so envious of your harvest!! I had a hell of a time sprouting my lufa seeds and determined the only way they’d sprout is soak the seeds for 24 hours then split the seed like you’d open a sunflower seed… now mine are flowering but I’m getting a lot of blooms drop off.. is that normal?!

  • @beatcat1265
    @beatcat1265 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I peeled my first luffa today! I picked it a bit sooner than your dry brown one and the peel slipped right off! Now its drying in the sun! I had seen a video saying to pick before its dried and it peels much easier and that was the case for me! It was after the yellow color but before super dry.
