MSV Co-Focus | An Old Poly Many Players Will Still Enjoy
Some say the American Kasatkina for her defensive abilities. Kasatkina's movements are a tad better imo, but yes both are amazing. Iga has higher peak speed than both of them (same for Gauff) but isn't as fluid (vertically speaking, she's only amazing horizontally)
Next Gen? I hv had that FH since the 70's!! We were taught to hit through the ball. If u wanna hit through the ball, must keep the racket head high. Modern game nowadays, hitting from low to high, brushing effect. Some players trying this high elbow, high racket head, but trying to hit low to high... which don't work. Also, now, most players hv low tension strings.. gd for topspins, since topspins are more forgiving. My racket are strung at 68lbs. 'Flat-ish' hit... slight topspin towards the end of the impact...
Iga's FH might be efficient but she doesn't get much extension. She hits with an alligator arm
Spot on!
short take back, pats the dog, great wrist lag! I love that you uploaded this because I brought it up on your Coco video for these reasons!
Great freaking channel
Coco’s forehand and her serve are disasters. She has delusions of being the best player in the world. Even if she gets hot and Iga stays in bad form like the tour championships, she could never maintain a ranking. Coco is the only player out there who misses standing forehands by 12’ and double faults halfway up the net. Look at coco’s face when she hits a clunker; she has no idea why and is bewildered. Coco thinks her losses to Emma Navarro are bad losses. In actual fact, it looks like Navarro is the better player, simply because Navarro can keep the ball in play until Coco blows up. Coco and her parents need to find a coach who can build these sits. I don’t say re-build because Coco has never had a serve or forehand.
@ best athlete in the game with a great backhand.
Her swing path will prevent her for winning grand slams? That’s a ridiculous statement 😂😂😂
You may want to rewatch the video. Those words were never stated 🤦♂️
Emma is a really GOOD player. Carefully selected word. She is NOT a great player. Her load in her shots is not sufficient to generate enough power to finish. Therefore, she is a counter-puncher basically. Fluid has almost nothing to do with a player’s success. Courier, Medvedev have zero fluidity. As a matter of fact, it is harder to play an opponent who is choppy; Emma will find she gives rhythm to her opponent. Having said this, she is a better player than Coco because Coco is literally a bluff. Coco can miss any serve and any forehand and has no idea how to fix them in a match; it is pretty clear by now that Coco has no intention and no coach to fix her. If Emma becomes #1, it would be indicative of a weak era in WTA tennis. Emma’s strength is no real weaknesses. Her serve is a big power suck out. She doesn’t possess the variety to unbalance her opponents.
I'd like to see the breakdown of the modern forehand!!
Could you critique your own groundstrokes?
I think she's up there with Iga in terms of forehand efficiency too.
💯
Calling something a hot mess is not constructive criticism. It's clickbait.
🗨 IT'S A WORD OF HATE
womp womp
well said and comment on the posture and swing
The fray seem like a quality control issue. It happened to me once in Zero in random spots before the notching even started. Still a deal breaker, too expensive to flip a coin wether it will fray or not.
You should show this video Patrick Mouratoglou. :)
"Mouratoglou offers private tennis lessons, lessons with him costs $7,500" 😂🤦♂️
100% agreed with you
Interesting vidéo analysis unfortunately rare are those Who pointing those details.... I m working on it for my son I would love to get your feedback ❤
💞🦾💓> WE LOVE COCO /// BUT WE DON'T LOVE THE HATER'S WHO COME WITH THIS ( HATE ) AND. ( BS )
Why?
KEEP WINNING WITH THAT POWERFUL FOREHAND COCO /// BECAUSE THE HATER'S DON'T LIKE IT 😂
Then that's low standards for "hating". It's sport, everyone can be put under a microscope, winning or not. And I'm sure that for Coco to reach that level she wasn't surrounded by people labeled as haters because some parts of her game need improvements.
her forehand is her weakness. WIth better forehand she would win 2 or 3 Grand Slams.
COCO IS GOING TO WIN 🏆 MORE WITH HER POWERFUL FOREHAND ✨️
💞🦾💣 > BUT COCO STILL 🏆 WINNING WITH HER POWERFUL FOREHAND ✨️
A WIN 🏆 IS A WIN 🏆 🙌 👏
Iga also idolized Rafa and you can see pieces of his FH in hers. But regarding Sabalenka, she can sort of get away with her technique if she can dictate the point early. Her style is to attack first. Coco, on the other hand, is perfectly happy to chase down balls and extend points. She'd be a better counterpuncher if she didn't need such a long runway for her FH.
It is power vs control. Why should it be hard to shorten the swing path? Players do it all the time especially on return.
Ah, but this has been fixed by Coco end of year. So why use it hete
Sounds familiar. I am not surprised that you despite both next gen forehand and long takebacks. Well, they both face severe problems. So much that Coco already won a Major title, and Aryna finished this year as #1. My wife is a huge Coco fan, so I am to watch all of her matches. Many of her forehand goofs (If not most) happen when she does have enough time. And all of them are more than capable of returning serves, often enough with full swings on first serves. So yes, Coco does not have the best forehand imaginable, but what actually held her back this year was her second serve. And Aryna's forehand is even faster than any men's shot. Saw some numbers recently.
Sloane Stephens is one of my favorite players but her swing is huge too. Sometimes her racket head is so far behind her body, it hard to believe. It may not sound like much but if the racket head goes 2 feet farther back, you also have to recover those 2 feet coming forward so in total your racket head is moving 4 feet more than someone with a compact swing. That's a lot of extra movement.
She is so smooth as well, but somehow in the most critical junctures of a match she typically falters. Mental or stroke mechanics breaking down, maybe both! 🤷♂️
Good video. To your point about Aryna. Her bigger swing is more evident when changing directions close to the baseline. She has a higher rate of mistakes in the net in that instance than players with more compact strokes. Coco is an exaggeration, and you know besides the inefficiency. She pushes the degrees of freedom of her shoulder. There had to be overcompensation in developing some muscles in the back and shoulder to protect her joint. It can't feel natural or smooth.
Good points. Aryna's offensive at all costs game style may be a result of her simply not being equipped to counter punch due to her strokes 🤷♂️
The fact you can win a slam with a terrible serve and forehand mechanics show how poor the WTA is compared to the men.
Not really
Good analysis. Iga is so athletic
no worries here, i aint flexible enough to reach that far back LOL
I think you're missing something about most women's hip and arm anatomy that causes the swing to go behind; hence the name "WTA forehand."
Ahem Emma Navarro has an atp forehand?
@@Miguel.Garcia Probably doesn't have as wide of hips, same with Sabalenka. This has been discussed before, I'm not making it up lol
"Men generally having greater upper body strength, allowing them to generate power through a more forceful arm action, while women tend to rely on more body rotation and leverage to hit their forehands due to their different muscle distribution and center of gravity"
@@Miguel.Garcia It's worth noting some men have a WTA style forehand, therefore rely more on rotation than shoulder/arm strength.
Fair point, and I think it holds merit. However, some women have demonstrated that this doesn't always need to be the case
Excellent video. Coco probably developed her forehand swing path from when she started playing tennis as a little girl. Too bad her Dad or any other coach didn’t catch this before it became ingrained in her muscle memory.
Thanks. I would argue most pro players fail to evolve their strokes away from their junior quirks/habits. The very best are always evolving their strokes between the ages of 18-24 and the end result is very mature adult strokes. At 20 years of age, she still could do it, but will she!
Sinner change his serve. anything is possible. Even i without coaches was able to change any stroke
Wow this Guy used the word garbage in a thumbnail with nick kyrgios.
right, very befitting!
check out kirschbaum max power rough!
I will be reviewing kirschbaum max power (not rough) very soon
@@TK-Tennis I think you'll like the rough texture. makes a round poly feel a little more bite but still keep direct feel!
👍 I typically prefer round poly's, plus for testing I always try to play test the round variants before the textured or shape option
@ makes sense! Looking forward to review
You mentioned Kirschbaum Super Smash Orange, can you compare and describe the differences with Toro Toro?
Toro Toro has faster snapback and has a slightly crispier feel with better tension maintenance, and it's very slightly more responsive but less pockety. I really enjoy them both, but my personal preference leans ever so slightly towards KSSO, mostly because I string very often and it's a much better value
I agree with you about these elaborate backswings. I much prefer Fed's, Fognini, Sell, Agassi, etc. Tiafoe does it about as simply as possible I would say. Sinner also. I would personally put Sinner in the Next Gen technique category.
I should have referenced Fognini as a comp too 👋. Are you joking about Tiafoe?
@TK-Tennis I know Tiafoe looks weird, but to me, if you were to watch only his hand movement from prep to contact, it is actually pretty compact. But I certainly would not recommend his technique to anyone.
Another player with the very compact efficient technique was the wasted talent Tomic.
That's fair and true, although he's also very strong and only a very small percentage of players could replicate his form/technique 👋
Great comparison with Mannarino. I love this type of game that really emphasizes these small backswings. Agaasi was the prototype. Tomic definitively had this game, he was probably much more talented than Sell and Adrian, but he of course pretty much wasted his talent. I think he could have actually won a Major is he wanted to work.
I like how you’re dispelling old notions that just stick because “that’s the way it’s done”. As a beginner rec player I’ve been watching everyone on yt repeat the same talking points instead of really analyzing the pros. They are pros for a reason.
Thanks. In all aspects of life people often repeat the same things they've heard or been taught without questioning it. Pros are pros for a reason, and you can learn both what to do and what not to do from them.
Thanks for sharing your oppinions with us Tk . Always a pleaure to see your reviews. I will try super toro to inderstand if it can be my "go to" string . My current one is confidential. Wondering here if I should give a try to toro toro also. Characteristics that I love regarding confidential: excellent confidence that the ball will reach the target point. Good depth, good spin potential , good tension maintenance. Thanks again TK
My pleasure, thanks for the shoutout!
Look at pros, so many different ways to hit the ball. But with hundred of thousands of hits they have it down pat.
👍 There are countless ways to hit the ball, and while there may be no one "right" way, there most certainly are more and less efficient ways.
I think it’s a great video. Thank you.
What is it about this “new gen” technique that makes it more efficient vs the modern one in terms of kinetic energy and power?
Depends on the club level you are playing (imi assuming everyone here is amateur). Maybe at a lower level when the ball goes really slow, it impacts in your strokes, but as you increase the level, and therefore the pace in the rallys, taking the backswing early helps a lot to prepare quickly to this "new" pace of playing. (This is my personal experience) since not everyone is capable of taking your swing back and hit in a brief moment, taking it early allows you to just push forward through the ball.
I’d say the biggest problem with hitting with a closed face type of shot is it’s super easy to shank balls. Them being pro they get to practice it all the time paradoxically. It creates a very spiny heavier shot. But it’s very tough to create power while changing directions . As far as comparing that type of shot to Sampras and Lendl I’d have to disagree you cannot achieve a ball like that with a continental grip. Personally I’d prefer hitting through the ball taking time as much as possible from opponents vs that much spin. It’s not a scam if it wins them high six figures and millions of dollars excluding titles Grand slams. But I’ve played a few players who hit with that style and it’s good but it’s not the most efficient way.
Some players use strokes similar to the Gull Wing style strokes of today with a Continental or Eastern Grips, although how the racquet contacts the ball is more towards the outside of the ball and not nearly as aggressive in the low-to-high angle of attack. The preparation is somewhat similar in that they all have some Gull Wing characteristics in preparation, but addressing the ball is slightly different. Both Lendl and Sampras has Eastern forehand grips, although I played with a top 150 player during my time working at Lendl's club and he somehow still was able to hit topspin effectively by hitting the outside of the ball and his swing was just like Ivan's. And that's right, I often mention if someone has enough time and practice they can make it work all the way to the bank.
Thanks for the review TK. If you thought that it was a round string, I think it says a lot about how sharp the string is. It’ll definitely be a must try once my lynx tour reel dries out. Also, I would want to know if you noticed any deep notching with this string ? Because personally it’s the main downside that I have with the head lynx tour. Cheers 👍
early take back is a cue to fix the problem of late take back in low level player. Pros do everything at the right time, not early not late.
I think your review is spot on! Not much to complain about the string. I bought a reel. I use it in a hybrid setup with Ghost Wire for some additional comfort.
How does it play with ghost wire in the crosses ?
I stringed my new Head Boom Pro with Pure Rush on mains and Ghost Wire on the crosses at 47/45 lbs. • Power and control are really good and consistent. I would say that the power is a bit less than Restring 0 but control is way better. • The feel is really nice. Crisp but comfortable, not mushy or springy. Nice ball pocketing. • I think the sound is nice as well on impact. • Spin is decent, less than Restring 0 or Hyper G. You don’t get the bite on the ball but the snapback is good and the ball stays in. Haven’t tried Pure Rush in full bed. This hybrid works for me and will continue to use it.
This string is very good excatly for the relaxed play and extended drills which i see in this youtube video and lower level not playing points. Not working for me when you rip it in point play and really try to push the opponent. Strings really needs to be tested in match play with serves and pressure situations against tough opponents.
Your mistake was totally acceptable and let me tell you why. I am a fan of round polys. I love mostly Luxilon strings. There are few shaped strings that changed my perception on shaped strings. The first one is lynx tour and the second one is pure rush. And the simple reason is this: they don’t feel erratic, the offer great control and feedback / security of where the ball is gonna land, they don’t overshoot/slingshot on bad contact and they last longer meaning they don’t loose their characteristics after 4 hours like most solinco strings…… so in a way you could say they have round polys kinda properties….. i love pure rush. 80 bucks for a reel under 20% lifetime offer is a HUGE STEAL! ❤
Yeah, but I should have noticed it during stringing. Sure it's not super sharp, but by feel it's noticeable enough for someone like me that has strung somewhere around 5k racquets. You are right that it does play like a round poly without any erratic tendencies, but Toroline Super Toro is another 6-sided string that has no odd inconsistent tendencies either. I have Lynx Tour in my cart and I need to try it soon. Cheers
@@TK-Tennis I love super toro too. But it doesn’t give the same free power like pure rush :)
Nice review. You said it's similar to Big hitter silver, but I think maybe Atomos is closer than Pure Rush. Have you tried Atomos?
Never even have heard of Atomos until seeing your comment. I see it's from Tru Pro as well.
