I’m willing to bet ever of the haters here have never done this. It’s like primal fishing. People are so worried about how they do shit they can’t think differently. It’s not like they’re hurting anymone and it assuming they don’t just throw them back in half dead. I HOPE they don’t because at that point your screwin the pooch, other than that this looks like a fun experience and if you know the right person or can do it, a decent meal depending on what you aim for. Keep at it have your fun we all do things that someone else will say is stupid or messed up, personally I find those people funny 😆

I fished Cadillac years ago out of a boat, I had a small pike jump out of the water and grab a lure as I was reeling it in. The lure was probably six inches or so in the air when he struck it. Lots of fun, great lake to fish!

I've got safe ice 5 minutes from my house and it's way closer to GR than Cadillac.

You "cannot" fish Cadillac/Mitchell/Higgins/Houghton without moving around a ton - i put cannot in "" cause you can but the results usually will be meh - the fish in these lakes move around constantly and when you sit in one spot you're gonna run into small perch/gills/eyes like you did. I prefer Cadillac from the north west side myself seem to do much better over there. I've fished all these lakes for a few decades - you will get the occasional nice fish to come in but it'll usually be in the form of a pike. I know hubs are "easier" in terms of setting up and fishing in comfort but a two man flip is the way to fish these lakes. When walleye are seeing your minnow but not biting have a jigging rap or buckshot spoon rigged up and ready to go so you can drop down the hole and entice them. I won't fish any of these lakes without running 6lb braid onto a 4 lb leader because of the bigger pike - too many times getting broke off on 2lb test.

Need to put those perch on your tip up. Bigger the better.
