ignoring the signs only means that people spend money on ideological agenda messaging machines. I for one want a good story without an agenda attached to it. Games were never about politics - they don't need to start now. I have nothing against female characters - some of the best MCs we have had were female. I care about why. Ignoring the reasons behind the changes only means you're consuming products without questioning anything - if you're happy with this, then fine continue as you are. I question everything - because I work hard to earn my money, I'm not about to give it away for a game like Spiderman 2 which rode on the good graces of the first game - only to fill my eyes with slop and meaningless quests. @@crossslashgame I think questioning why is fine, but this isn’t even the first time sucker punch has had a main line game with a male protagonist and then switched to a female protagonist in a new story (for example there’s infamous, then infamous first light, which was way before the dei controversy) and with their recent track record imo there’s no reason to judge it for dei until we have more info but i get why ur skeptical. Sure it’s fair to question things but when I say “yall” I’m talking about ppl more generally who are saying “im not buying this game fs because of dei” when we have barely seen any of the game and dont even know what the story is about

I'm right there with you. There was definitely a culture change, that led to the mess that was Spiderman 2. You can feel it in the game compared to the first game. People are losing their minds, conforming to new norms that we can't keep up with and actively reject. I hope there is a future for gaming where devs are free to put anything they want in the game, anything but DEI messaging.

I agree, this isn't my industry anymore. I'm working on a video walking back the steps to how we got to this point. There is a cancer inside the industry, one where people no longer can express themselves within the industry. A great example is Concord, it failed because of toxic positivity. Regarding this medium and the general state of entertainment in general, I've been writing a Dark Fantasy series for the past two years, to steer things back in the proper direction. And while I can easily tell that the literary market is not accepting this because it is completely controlled by these kinds of people, I know this is temporary. You can see plainly that the general public doesn't want this and when this pathetic display of vacuous and petty virtue signalling ends, people will want female protagonists again, which actually fit the role, their sex and their heroic narrative arcs. For now, writing a story about a ghostly Victorian mother that is given a second chance to rebuild her family and save the innocent from Hell itself, with the aid of spirits from other Ages (namely the early Sengoku period) is an exercise for me only. I am absolutely sure everyone is going to love this IP in their ArcSys cell shaded fighting videogame or an action RPG with survival horror elements, but I don't want these scumbags touching my creation. I want them gone before my work is recognized and primed for adaptations. Because they would hate it for its morals, attack it out of jealousy and attempt to subvert or censor or deconstruct it in ways that would render it lame. This will pass. But for that to happen, people need to stop with the FOMO. It's fundamentally contrary to the principle of a judicious and responsible consumer. This isn't over. Good things are still being made - you're just not hearing about them. Because of them.

But it's just hard to ignore the signs that the industry has been giving. The VA is a red flag, but I can just select the Japanese VA, so no issues there. I just hope that Sucker Punch knows what they are doing.

@@kasiflavor1931 yeah you stepped into the hornets nest, you can't show proof to these people, cause they will just call you a bunch of names to discredit your opinion and your proof. Honestly, I have no issue with female characters, I have an issue when decisions are made to change the established expectations by the developer themselves. GOT is amazing, so the actual fans wanted a part 2. Why make another Ghost game? Why not make a new IP with a female lead instead, no one would've said anything unless she was male looking. I still have faith in Sucker Punch, but given Sony's recent injection of DEI, it's reasonable to assume DEI decisions were made in this game. I hope I'm wrong, but the the fact remains, no one asked for this. Companies used to do market research before a game could be approved...

@@crossslashgame The thing is we've seen this happen for the past few years now and changing the developers from men to white liberal blue haired women but I still have a lil bit of faith on Sucker Punch to not force girlboss trash down our throats. And again I also have zero problems with female protagonists there's Lara Croft, Kassandra from AC Odyseey and Aloy

I've not concluded anything, I'm making an assumption, because I've not heard any of the GOT fans asking for GOY before it was announced. I'm concerned by the base of the decisions made on this project, because I'm a fan of GOT. So I just want this game to be good.

@@crossslashgame sure it might be true fans of GOT didn't ask for GOY. i would have loved more jin, no question. but you can say the same for the first assassin's creed game. no one asked for ezio, but we ended up getting the most renowned character in the series. you can also say the same for final fantasy, no one asked to jump from zidane, to tidus, to cloud, to squall, to lightning, to all the other main characters of the franchise and yet for the most part square enix still delivered. i agree it's sad to see jin go, i agree the actress's opinions are problematic. but we barely have anything to work with about the game. i want the game to be good too, and as long as irl beliefs don't seep into the game itself, i think we'll be fine. but for now it is still too early to assume anything

Honestly if the game is great, and this Ghost simply isn't trying to avenge the death of her gay lover - in the name of diversity and representation - I'll retract my fears. But let's not forget what Sony has been pushing lately.

Show me anyone that said, I don't want GOT part 2... I want a new Ghost game with a female protagonist - and I'll agree with you. The only catch is, this person needs to be a fan of GOT, can't just be some feminist activist.

@crossslashgame I'm a fan of the original ghost of tsushima and sucker punch, I think its awesome that we're getting a new story and a female warrior in a new setting. Jins story was awesome but finished, any more and they risk ruining what they already succeeded in getting across. If you actually like ghost of tsushima and understood it's story you'd get why Jin is done

But what would the game even be then? Gameplay wise, it would just be Jin beating the mongols again and exploring Tsushima again while fighting the shogunate, which would probably be the straw hats 2.0. Any new features added in would REALLY have to carry the game from feeling like the same game all over again. Visually, it would look better than the last game, but it'll still be Tsushima, so I don't know how much more they could add to this already great looking game in terms of the setting itself. As for the story, I genuinely feel there's not much left for Jin. The mongol invasion already changed Jin into The Ghost, and the dlc already delved into his and his father's past. The mongols would have to take over Tsushima again, or else why travel through Tsushima a second time, which would mean the Shogunate and The Ghost somehow didn't stop them from marching in. The old side characters would need to take a backseat for new characters since their arcs were already completed. The shogunate is the most interesting thing going on here, and their involvement would have to take into account that both they and Jin would want the mongols off the island, so how much would they really fight each other while the real enemy is breathing down their necks? Honestly, trying to make another game with Jin would be more forced than the dei outrage with the new game.

So basically the same game, but with the Shogun now.

I think a good writer can always expand a story. The fans expected a sequel to Jin's story. So I understand why they were slightly disappointed with what they got.

Don't get me wrong, I loved how ignorant I was - I was blissfully enjoying my games. I was proper in it! I don't think I had a tantrum, but I do want people to address the elephant in the room. I'm sure there are lots of people who agree with me, and lots that agree with you. It's matter of opinion. I think we will see a lot more games fail in the near future if they decide to subvert expectations in today gaming climate. Look at Concord, Dustborn, Zau, Flintlock, Assassins Creed Shadows - the recent PC release of God of War 2. These games have not done well or aren't projected to do well - because the devs who are at these companies are not listening to the paying customers complaints. I have faith in Sucker Punch, as they have not let me down yet - but the VA they hired - isn't giving anyone good vibes. Plus Sony's recent DEI push with the company. I don't need a moral lesson in my video games. Things have to make sense and have purpose that isn't political one - because gamers have a voice now and choose where to spend their money. I’m just furious because I actually played ghost of Tsushima and beat all of the side content. The intro (battle of Tsushima and Duel with Khotun Kahn) I believe the best I’ve ever seen in gaming. The art style and combat are absolutely genius. No other video game even comes remotely close to the quality of GoT and that includes Zelda BoTW

Trust me I know! I'm not going to start a petition like the the Acolyte fans on this. But the paying customer needs to be heard also. Devs keep ignoring the customer's concerns and if anything at times attacking the gamers, this doesn't help sell the game. A “sequel” will have Jin Sakai. Ghost of Yōtei is NOT a sequel. The actress of this game has played a bunch of characters. And sucker punch is writing the script, the the game actress. Everyone needs to chill way down. Everyone is acting like they know everything, but they don’t. Stop acting like infants!!!!

The first one wasn't just not historically accurate, it was straight up wrong most of the time lol.

Him having a family sounds like a forced plot point. Secondly, why can't it be a anthology franchise like Assassin’s Creed? Not every game needs a sequel, not to mention the ending of the first games outcome is determined by the player. There's no canon ending, unless you want it to turn into some kind of Bioware-like RPG? And maybe making her female was intentional, real gamers won't care so long as the game is good. Let me explain this to you, since you are being fugging obtuse in your break from playing with trains: DEI is Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Its entire aim is to purge straight men (the color doesn't even matter anymore since they do it to asians too, evidently) from every industry, every job, ever piece of cultural product, every social circle until you're stuck playing one last game of Sudoku, buddy. I'm surprised they didn't take the chance to take Tomoe post GOT for the second Mongol invasion (7 years later) and do almost a reversal of Jin's story. In her case she'd be searching for redemption rather than Jin's identity crisis. Maybe they considered that there wouldn't really be much "new" content potential given how close in time it was and the attack was largely based in Tsushima still?

Nope. Jin still has to face the Shogun and the 2nd mongol invasion. He also spared his uncle so we still need to see what happens between the two

@@JoshC-dh8oq You missed my point about the second invasion, and Jin wouldn't care about the Shogun coming after him. He has no animosity towards him. Also, the game had two endings, one where the Uncle dies. Those are just shallow plot lines that wouldn't warrant a sequel.

I agree with your points, but I keep asking myself, who asked for Ghost of Yotei? The concept itself, I don't think any market research was done to understand the reception this game would have. It's easy to label everyone as misogynistic, but I think we need to understand what the fans of the game were expecting the next game to be. Part of me will always give SP the benefit of doubt.
