Here is an idea. Join the Army or Air Force. You don't get stuck on a ship or submarine.

I was a high school teacher 6 years but recently lost my job. I obviously have a bachelors, but I am thinking of joining Navy to fund a masters to change careers.

I obtained an AS degree in funeral services and mortuary science this year and i turned 23 a month ago. Now im interested in joining the army which i already signed up for. Im nervous because all since i was 18 I only have had experience in retail and restaurant business's. And i just feel like i cant focus on my career path to be a funeral director right now, and i just want to give the military a try and travel the world and meet people, all while making an effort to do right for my country.

I served aboard submarines in the USN as a Steward in the early 70’s. I loved cooking for 12 officers instead of everyone onboard, however, doing all the non cooking assignments were demeaning at their best.

Well I have to say, ALL or, mostly All jobs in the military involve long hours. 14 Hours is nothing to the Airborne Infantry that I was part of. 24/7 while I was in "the field" training with guard/security duty, movement to contact etc. You all have clean sheets and hot showers everyday, plus fresh food daily. Yeah you are basically a servant, so are many other jobs in the military. You are being trained to go become a chef if you want in civilian life. Anyway, thanks for the details. For the 6 years I was in I wondered why I didn't enlist for cook. I should have. Oh wwell.

When you get a chance, you should provide us with an update on how things are going for you now in life. It'll be great for people, specifically the next generation of brothers/sisters, to see all of the opportunities that serving in the military can afford you. I tell every young man/woman to consider it. Do the 4yrs, get the benefits, and live a great life!

Your experience was a cake walk because you were encouraged to go to medical while you were in and thus had very easy service connections in your medical record. The issue is with people in the Army and Marines that were hazed away from going to medical for any issues and now they are trying to get rated for them but there is zero evidence of being seen for said issue while in service. The VA will often flat out deny any of these claims.

Can you bring black running shoes with the shox on bottom of them and if not can you leave them in a box and not pay to ship them back and just get them at the end of the boot camp
