Tailwind vs Vanilla CSS - should you reconsider?

    If only all front end devs concentrate on a single tool to make an ultimate best solution for FE development instead of building 10000 different frameworks.

    Nooooo, why? We don't need to spread our concentration... It will only lead to more confusion, between developers and between customers.

    “It depends” is always the right answer. The hard part is understanding the nuance. From personal experience though, I’m never choosing another “cutting edge” new framework again because it’s always a gamble if it will be well supported in the long run. If it ends up being discontinued, it’s always a hellish effort to migrate to something else.

    I bought in 2020 Max's Angular Udemy course, that was in Angular v9 if I remember correctly, and finished in 2021, but I then moved to React (than bought Max's React course), and now I discovered that the course that I bought in 2020, it's up to date with the new versions. Such an amazing thing to do. Thanks Max and Academind for that!

    at least tailwind is not a component framework. I had a project with a UI framework that was providing components which wasn't updating to vue 3 for over a year and made the project stuck on vue 2. I rewrote everything to tailwind to have normal HTML again and to never be dependent on components from a third party again. now I can theoretically just swap styling without breaking the html.

    • @hpn1427
      @hpn1427 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@AdamFiregate Sarcastic... most companies use some older version of Angular, senior engineers tried to upgrade angular from 8 to 12 for 1 year, and they failed, because we have custom framework built on top of angular 8, so it's literally impossible to migrate to higher version (lack of skill and resources ofc). I am keeping up with signals and new syntax stuff but it's hard when you are not using it at work.

    The main reason why I prefer to use tailwind is because its easier to figure where all the styles that are applied to a element are coming from. It's right there inline where the element is. No cross referencing different CSS files and figuring out what style overwrote what style because of some complex priority algorithm. Also tailwind-merge makes it super easy to make components that have a default style and a component prop witch you can use for specifying some additional styles that a instance of the component needs to have. There is always that one instance of the component that needs to have a slightly different style to make the page look correct.
