Updates: Cancer, DRZ EOL and the 2024 KLR Adventure ABS
After months commuting back and forth to the hospital to be with my wife who is fighting esophageal cancer, the DRZ engine rebuild came to an end, and I pull the trigger on a new bike - the Kawasaki 2024 KLR 650 Adventure ABS.
The DRZ is back together, and the oil was simply due to the higher oil pressures with new gaskets and rings, pushing out through the head cam gasket. A $300.00 fix to add two dabs of liquid gasket and the engine is now dry as a bone. Successful rebuild, but I needed a reliable bike.

DRZ 400 New Valve/Piston Install
มุมมอง 12111 หลายเดือนก่อน
After reviewing the last attempt at this procedure, I realize nobody wants to hear my crappy music overtop the tutorial sections, so here is a much quieter version with just the details. If you are having a hard-start issue with your drz, you may need to swap out the valves, not just the shims. This is how I did it.

DRZ 400 Speedometer / Dash Cluster replacement
มุมมอง 3.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Replacing the failed sensor for the speedometer drive assembly...ultimately used an aftermarket analog dial instead. Save $500.00 - the aftermarket dial cost me about $30.00 on Amazon. It is not possible to find the drive assembly online, so you need to buy the entire dash - not cool Suzuki...anyways - hope this helps. Peace out.

Updates - Work done DRZ 400
มุมมอง 104ปีที่แล้ว
Just a recap on work done over the past few months. With full intentions of getting out kiteboarding, the bike was having none of it...muffler replaced, speedometer repairs, gear shifter seal failure, new bearings, carburetor issues...it never ends. Hopefully with the replacement parts coming I can venture out beyond to give that sweet sweet content...like, subscribe...you know the thing man (o...
DRZ 400 Carburetor Tuning and Test Ride

After having some idling issues, I removed and replaced the Mikuni carb with a knock off - and learned the most efficient way to remove and replace the carburetor...many many times. I am somewhat of a DRZ carb removal expert at this point... This is also a test of my new Rode Lapel microphone, connected to the Insta360 RS1 camera, as recommended by @DorkintheRoad (much appreciated bud). This is...
Custom Bike-Bag Shakeout
มุมมอง 65ปีที่แล้ว
It's been a minute. Unfortunately it takes a long time to capture, edit and produce content, and TH-cam doesn't incentivize content creation in any logical manner, so you get what you pay for. While this was an R&D shakeout for the custom bike bags, I also set up the Xeigu G90 and made contacts, but unfortunately did not get the footage to cooperate, so you get a 'what's in the bag' gear video....

Emergency Harness with Prusik Knots - Line Ascending
มุมมอง 16Kปีที่แล้ว
While here I demonstrate the use of the venerable Prusik knot for ascending a running (or fixed) line, the same technique can be applied to hauling gear across a river, extracting a vehicle from a ditch, self-rescue and a range of similar applications. Having a simple emergency belay/rappel kit can ensure your safety, and provide peace of mind when hiking with less experienced climbers. Being a...
VHF/UHF Communications

Don't have a HAM license? There are plenty of other options available. Here are a few. The most important part of radio communications is to have someone one the other end to talk to, so let's all maintain our alliances - and keep the infighting to a dull roar, or if absolutely necessary, try humor. The accusatory dad voice gets annoying after a while. Airspy airspy.com/download/ HAM Questions ...

    That pickup doesnt measure resistance. Its a coil of wire. When the magnet passes by it creates a voltage pulse signal.

    mine is hard to start, and when i give it gas while starting it puffs from the air intake, could this be bad valve adjustment or is it the carb?

      I will have to check the specs. I think its between .10 - .20 on the intake, .20 -.30 on the exhaust. You should be able to download the manual pdf which has the details.

    Hi there, Hope you are doing well. I was analyzing your TH-cam channel and I am really impressed by your videos but your TH-cam channel has some issues. You are struggling for video views and video ranking. You have made many videos so far but you are not getting views and subscribers as expected. Because you have no complete SEO for any videos, no channel tags, no proper video tags, no end screens, no chapters added and no SEO-friendly titles and descriptions. If you complete all tasks then you will get more views and subscribers with monetization. I have an amazing idea to fix it.

    Could you put a "nut" on the speedo cable connection, that limits the speedo cable from over inserting and displacing the encoder from its ideal position? Would be similar to what the usually done with nuts to adjust the position of clutch and brake cables.

    • @canadiantechprep
      @canadiantechprep ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, two issues: to try that I would a) need another unit that doesn't have the slippage in the wheel and b) the cable needs to be fully seated or it doesn't catch the lower assembly properly. I think I will try this fix and see if it works out for now.

    I find that using a Bachmann’s knot works better than a prusik as a replacement hand ascender. The addition of the carabiner allows it to slide up the rope easier while still creating enough friction to not slip when loaded. The carabiner also lets you easily attach a foot loop to aid in ascending, as well as providing a good place to grip. Another trick i like to use is flaking my rope on my shoulders, draped around my neck. For me at least, it’s much faster. An old firefighter taught me it, ever since trying it once I’ve never went back to the old method.

    • @martynwatson4929
      @martynwatson4929 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tbh the prusik is probably the last slip/grip knot i would use, bachmann is good but never grip or load the crab as that is not how the knot/hitch works, it'll slip, only ever load the loop.

  • @billross2057
    @billross2057 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your square knot looks incorrect, be careful of that.

    • @canadiantechprep
      @canadiantechprep ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I see that on the harness. I was tying this for the camera. You can see I actually tied a second harness (black) with the proper knot. The figure eight has never failed me yet, so that is just a security feature, but definitely a reason to triple check. I think it's actually just an overhand...good eye though.
